'Os Normais' was a successful Brazilian TV Series, composed of seventy-one episodes as per the information on the DVD. The series was such a hit, that this movie was released, explaining the beginning of the relationship between Vani (Fernanda Torres) and Rui (Luiz Fernando Guimarães). The story is very, but very funny. In this film, Vani got married with Sérgio (Evandro Mesquita) at 6:30 PM, and Rui with Marta (Marisa Orth) at 7:00 PM, in the same day and at the same church. There are lots of confusion and misunderstands, exploring jokes, bad language, and all the stereotypes related to the behavior of the 'carioca' (natives from the city of Rio de Janeiro) medium class. Like in the series, this movie is very funny for Brazilians, but I am not sure whether a foreigner will understand most of the jokes. My vote is eight.

"Os Normais" is a good film. Or should i say "as good as the tv series"... This may serve as a warning after all; if you dont like the tv show, keep distance from this movie otherwise go ahead, you will have lots of fun. For those who never heard of this program it will be hard to understand most of the jokes of the movie... Yes, still it will be fun, but you know... the "feeling" will be lost; and because of that i dont recommend this movie to everyone.
For Brazilians folks... well go ahead... it is always a great oportunity to see Luis Fernando Guimarães, Fernanda Torres and Evandro Mesquita in action.
7/10

One of the funniest TV couple ever, makes his debut on big screen on a great movie. Rui and Vani are even funnier, totally at ease and with the best company. The kind of movie you seat back and laugh "non-stop" for the whole two hours.
If you know the series from TV, this is like a longer episode. Maybe not their best ever, but a fairly amusing one. You will be curious, for it shows how the main characters first met. If you don't know anything about Brazil, then God only knows how this will hit your mind, but I suppose that absurd marriages that go crazy even before the ceremonies are an interesting joke for most people.
Rui and Vani are sharp as always in this Big-Screen version of the great TV Show "Os Normais". Probably the best show on TV Globo (beats me why they stopped making it...), it translates very well to the Big Screen. It's like a 2-hour episode, with all that entails. They keep up with the rhythm of the show and you won't stop laughing. I encourage everyone who gets the opportunity to see this to go and then try not to get p**sed off at Globo for not having Rui and Vani on our friday nights anymore...
This is a great brazilian comedy prequel to the TV series with the same name. The timing, rhythm and references are on point and show many comedy styles in a lighthearted narrative. Unlike many Brazilian comedies in the 00s and 10s, this movie doesn't rely solely on cursing, taglines and repetitive physical comedy. It's witty and fun - sometimes silly- but come on! It's 2021, we need silly right now

I saw this movie yesterday because the movie I went to see was cancelled (a Russian movie in the SP International Film Festival). I saw part of the series on TV, series which I thought was not bad, sit-com typically Globo style.
Take care before going to watch this movie! Mainly because this movie is high (at least for now) rated 7.5 here on IMDB. Which is simply ridiculous!!!
First something is not a movie only because is played on the big screen. Os Normais is basically a poor TV episode stretched to fit 1.5 hour. People indeed were laughing, but they laugh when the main characters say words like f**k, dic*, son-of-a-******, etc. It is cheap laugh, they laugh on coincidences that are so ridiculous that you think that the writter (Fernadn Young) was on booze. The script is not laughable at all. Actors are good comedians (except for Marisa Orth, she is really bad), and make the movie a little better.
Technically the movie is horrible: the sound looks like coming from another planet other than actors mouths, the camera keeps doing Brazilian Soap-Opera shots, moving like an afraid rabbit, the photography is so poor that you don´t know when is day, when is night, when is anything. You can almost see the lights reflected everywhere. The colors are everything but the beautiful Rio-de-Janeiro. Brazilian TV directors are horrible, who knows how to translate poor mass-consumption things to poor people, put them in movies and this is the final result: Os Normais.
I don´t want to judge bad or good movies, because it depends for who. I think I can judge them technially speaking. But definitively this is not a more than 5/10 movie for IMDB standards. Don´t be fooled by brazilians nationalists that fill IMDB thinking that Cidade-de-Deus should have won an Oscar, that Carandiru will win in 2004, and than anything that comes from Brazil is excelent. The latests good brazilian movies was Central Station and Bus 174, that were pieces-of-art, the rest, some are ok (Cidade-de-Deus, Carandiru, Amarelo-Manga, Abril Despedaçado, O Bicho de 7 cabeças, etc.), and some are piece-of-garbadge (Os Normais, Apolonio Brasil, Lisbela e o Prisioneiro, O Auto-da-compadecida, etc.)
If is your style, if you spend more than 1 hours watching open-cahnnel in Brazil: go watch asap, you will have loads of fun, and don´t go if you like David Lynch, Eric Homer, Jim Jarmuch, Scorsese, Kubrick, Wes Anderson, Mullen, and the list goes on and on...
