Vancouver game plan a winner
VANCOUVER -- A savvy government game plan has resulted in a jackpot for Vancouver, British Columbia, as a lucrative drive into the $25 billion global video game market looks set to expand even more aggressively this year. A number of factors -- including government tax incentives, an attractive climate and a steady stream of college-educated programrs and artists -- has turned the city into a video game hotspot. There are more than 20 video game development studios and over 140 new media and support service companies spread throughout the British Columbia area, making it one of the largest hotbeds for interactive entertainment in the world. The world's largest independent video game publisher, Electronic Arts, has a huge campus that's home to 1,600 employees in Burnaby, where 11 top franchises, including FIFA 06, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, NBA Live 06, SSX on Tour and NHL 06, are made.
