Was it even really a crime? I was on the short stairwell that connects the 11th—the top—floor of the Bendix Building, a Garment District block on the corner of Maple St and 12th St, when I spotted the square of white-patterned black cotton. Into my pocket it rapidly went, compensation for the fact that my quest for rooftop access had been stymied. If you thought the decorations at Thailand's White Temple were awesomely out of place, which include a zombie death pit and even a Predator, then you're surely going to love this insanely cool-looking jungle gym, which believe it or not resides in the backyard of a church!
As we spotted over on the Tumblr blog Kanye Western Front, this macabre play area is located on the same grounds as Germany's Holy Cross Church, which was built way back in 1885. Despite doing as much research as my computer could handle, I wasn't able to come up with any explanation as to when or why this bad boy was constructed, so I suppose your guess is as good as mine. All I know is, it's pretty damn cool.
If anyone can point us to any further information about this golden structure, we would very much appreciate it!

A helpless newborn baby boy was found abandoned in the dirt at the edge of an empty parking lot in Pompano Beach, Fla. wrapped in a blanket on Feb. 21. The heroic woman who found the baby got the attention of a day care bus driver, and had the driver’s supervisor to call 911.
A newborn baby was sleeping in the dirt along some hedges near an empty parking lot when a woman noticed something moving, and realized it was a baby. The infant was reportedly warm to the touch, but his mouth was very dry. The shocked woman immediately sought help for the poor baby, and flagged down a nearby bus driver.
The baby was then taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale for further examination. The newborn is reportedly one to three days old, and his umbilical cord was still attached, which possibly means he was not delivered in a medical setting.

Dark Relic
Stars: James Frain, Clemency Burton-Hill, Tom Basden, Alyy Khan, Samuel West | Written by Andy Briggs | Directed by Lorenzo Sena
When a film starts and you see “Syfy” it’s often that moment that you start to sigh. These films are often CGI fests with weak stories, the kind of thing you would watch late at night and rarely like. There are times though that this is not the case, that the film is actually good. When I started watching Dark Relic I had little hope.
The story is quite interesting; this is the first good sign. When the first of the Crusades in the Holy Land ended it was a time for the knights to head home. This is what Sir Gregory intends to do. He and his men discover a holy relic, a fragment of the Holy Cross which was said to have been the one that Jesus was crucified on.

Film director whose career took him from gritty television plays to Hollywood thrillers
People who talk wistfully of the "golden age of British television drama" are often accused of viewing the past through the rosy lens of nostalgia. But a clear-eyed examination of the era proves that such slots as the BBC's The Wednesday Play (1964-70) and Play for Today (1970-84) were unsurpassed as breeding grounds for talented directors such as John Mackenzie, who has died after a stroke aged 83. Like most of his contemporaries who gained their experience by working in television – Philip Saville, Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Ken Loach, Mike Newell, Michael Apted and Mike Leigh – Mackenzie went on to make feature films, notably his superb London-based gangster picture, The Long Good Friday (1980).
The television background trained Mackenzie to work quickly on taut and realistic narratives, within a tight budget and on schedule. One of his first jobs was as...

Welcome Zoners—
I still have last night’s adventures on my mind, but we cannot ignore our guests, can we? There’s lots on Monday’s visitor, a friend of the show who’s one of my favorites–but this is a fascinating group, made up of a major medical scientist, the head of the Special Olympics, and…an explorer who searches out headshrinkers.
Last week was wonderful, wasn’t it? Music, food, one very handsome and brilliant reporter, and a feisty Nobel Prize winner. And Stephen giving us The Word! Can’t wait for more. Doesn’t he make Mondays happy?
And now, your cast of characters for the week…
Monday, 3/28: Michael Moore
Polemical, satirical, and inimitable: Michael Moore is one of a kind, and you either love him or hate him. (I’m a fan.) Although he began as a journalist for alternative magazines like Mother Jones,...

All I am told is to wear black tie and not to bring a camera. So now, in a cocktail dress and stilettos, I stand outside a vast pink hotel on scruffy Venice Beach boardwalk, waiting among psychics, street pianists, body builders and beach bums, for my evening's guide to turn up.
"Never put out on the first date, remember," cackles an ancient woman dragging a shopping trolley of Reader's Digest magazines down the street. I check my watch for the ninth time that minute and see a 10-year-old doing back-flips off a bench, landing like an alley cat each time. It is the end of a busy public holiday weekend and the boardwalk is finally packing up when a junk-heap grey Volvo pulls up.

"Mary, give me one of your Kleenexes," my mother told my aunt one morning long ago when we were entering Holy Cross Church. She held a bobby pin in her lips, reached up to part her hair, and fixed the Kleenex on top of her head. My Aunt Mary already had her handkerchief in place.
"Why do you have to do that?" I asked.
"Because we are going into the house of the Lord," my mother explained, "and we have to spare him from the sight of us."
"But why?"
"It's because we're women, honey," Aunt Mary said.
It must have been a Holy Day of Obligation. That would explain why we'd gone across town to attend Holy Cross with Mary instead of going to our own church, St. Patrick's. I can speculate that it was a day off, and after Mass they were going to a sale at Robeson's.

After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Brad Pitt called in the world's top architects for his acclaimed Make It Right project. The plan was to build green homes to replace those destroyed in New Orleans. Now the first houses are up and inhabited… so is it just a celebrity ego trip or a true regeneration?
Debra Dupar, pregnant with her fifth child, is sitting outside her new house. She is washed by the noon sun of an early spring day, nursing a pinkish-red drink and chatting to her friends. A short way off a camera crew is setting up, assessing shots, squinting at the light, chatting to potential interviewees. They are working for Spike Lee, who is making a documentary about the place where Debra lives.
A guided tour of about a dozen people tramps along the vestigial street, marked out by some sinewy evergreen oaks, or "live oaks" as they are called here.
