.... with rather more of the bitter. This is an at-times-scathing examination of family life and values in modern Japan.
An ordinary salaryman takes up an opportunity to move his family into a huge model home for 12 months. The catch is that they allow prospective clients to trek through the home, with them in it, during business hours. At first, they enjoy the luxury and space, but the intrusion on their privacy creates stresses and has some unexpected consequences.
Much of the cast are regulars in Juzo Itami's films, and this film has a very similar feel to Itami's style. The result is somewhere between comedy and cutting social satire. This is far from the sugar-sweet.
