We’re going to guess if you told Myron Kerstein a decade ago he was going to be known for editing three of the foremost movie musicals this century he probably wouldn’t have believed you. After starting in the indie world with dramas such as 1999’s “Black and White” or Sundance breakouts “Raising Victor Vargas” and “Garden State,” Kerstein has edited hit comedies such as “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “Little Fockers,” and “Crazy Rich Asians.” The latter movie introduced him to director Jon M.

Waylon Jennings, a country singer and member of the outlaw subgenre, left the USA For Africa project due to his refusal to sing in Swahili. Jennings had a successful singing and performing career, but it had already started to decline by the time "We Are The World" was released. Jennings' decision to leave the project and his declining record sales in the 1980s were both highlighted in The Greatest Night in Pop documentary.
One of the most controversial stories featured in Netflix's new music documentary The Greatest Night in Pop is the abrupt exit of country singer Waylon Jennings from the hugely successful charity project. Considered a pioneer of the outlaw subgenre of country music that became popular in the 1970s and 1980s along with Willie Nelson, Jennings is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame known best for songs such as "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies...

Kevin Spacey is set to make his first convention appearance next month, appearing at the Mad Monster Party in North Carolina less than one year after he was acquitted of sexual assault charges. However, the reaction from fans attending the convention has been mixed to say the least.
In a Facebook post from Mad Monster, the group announced that Kevin Spacey will be available for a few gimmicky photo ops for fans, “Mad Monster is excited to welcome Two-Time Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey. Kevin will be joining us all 3 days, and he does Not offer table selfies. We will be offering House of Cards, The Usual Suspects “Line Up,” and Se7en “What’s in the Box?” Pro Photo-Ops.” According to TMZ, the photos – which can only be taken by the professional on-hand – will cost $225.

There are a lot of famous villains in pop culture, but one stands head and shoulders above the rest. Ironically, it's your head and shoulders that this villain wants to submerge. I'm talking about quicksand.
If you take a poll, it is likely that no one you know has ever been trapped in quicksand. Yet, the danger of quicksand is one of the most over-exaggerated tropes in film and television. Pop culture has created a lot of silly fears over the years. Acid rain, World War III, and artificial intelligence taking over the world to name a few. But one thing kids fear over all others: quicksand. It almost claimed the life of Daisy Duke in "The Dukes of Hazzard." The Hulk was no match for its steely grip in "The Incredible Hulk." And poor Sarah from "One Life to Live" spent several episodes trapped in it!

What's the best approach to winning Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon? If you're James Gunn, you simply cast Bacon as himself for your Marvel Cinematic Universe streaming special, "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special."
The 44-minute special, which Gunn both wrote and directed, catches up with the biggest a-holes in the galaxy sometime after the events of "Thor: Love and Thunder." With Christmas just around the corner and Peter (Chris Pratt) still in mourning for Gamora, Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) devise a surefire plan to cheer him up: giving him a special present in the form of his childhood hero, Kevin Bacon. Okay, it's not exactly the deepest or the most profound premise. In fact, in his review, /Film's Chris Evangelista argued that the "mighty silly and mighty light [special is] so light that it's a wonder it even exists." But then again, one could argue that comes with the territory.

Jessica Simpson is back in her Daisy Dukes, and she’s looking better than ever at 42.
The Dukes of Hazzard star today makes more businesswoman headlines than Hollywood ones – her bank balance is likely also having the last laugh as sales of her Jessica Simpson Style brand remain healthy.
In a recent Instagram story, the blonde showed off the 100 pounds she’s dropped, going edgy and iconic in tiny denim hot pants, massive boots, plus a full jean finish, this as she promoted footwear from her best-selling label.
The photo showed Jessica making her way across a dusty road and looking like a total bombshell.
Showing off her super-toned legs, the mom of three went skimpy in her frayed Daisy Dukes, adding in a stylish denim shirt, plus a baseball cap and massive hoop earrings.

Adam Wade, the suave singer and actor who registered three Top 10 hits on the Billboard 100 in 1961 and appeared in films including Shaft, Crazy Joe and Claudine before making history as a game show host, has died. He was 87.
Wade died Thursday at his home in Montclair, New Jersey, after a battle with Parkinson’s disease, his wife, singer Jeree Wade, told The Hollywood Reporter.
The Pittsburgh crooner drew comparisons to Johnny Mathis when he scored hits in 1961 with the romantic ballads “Take Good Care of Her,” which reached No. 7 (the tune was later recorded by Elvis Presley), “The Writing on the Wall” (No. 5) and “As If I Didn’t Know” (No. 10).
In a 2014 interview, Wade said he “was trying to imitate Nat King Cole, my boyhood idol, not Johnny Mathis. So I guess that tells you how good my imitating skills were.”

Lulu Wilson (Modern Love) is set to return for Becky 2: The Wrath of Becky, a sequel to Quiver Distribution’s 2020 horror-thriller Becky, which will also star Seann William Scott (Welcome To Flatch).
In the original film, the spunky and rebellious teenager Becky (Wilson) tries to reconnect with her father (Joel McHale) during a weekend getaway at a lakefront house. But the trip soon takes a turn for the worse when convicts on the run, led by the merciless Dominick (Kevin James), suddenly invade the home. The feature found success, in spite of the fact that it was released at the height of the Covid pandemic, topping the June 5 weekend box office and earning the biggest opening weekend since mid-March of 2020.

Robert Morse, a legend of the New York stage who had a late-in-life resurgence as the eccentric businessman Bertram Cooper on “Mad Men,” is dead at the age of 90. His death was made public by writer-producer Larry Karaszewski on Twitter.

Morse had some small roles on the boards beginning in the mid-1950s, then got his big break in “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” in 1961. Indeed, this iconic Camelot-era musical later reworked into a film in which Morse also starred, worked as a significant wink to insiders when Morse appeared in “Mad Men” decades later.

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.
Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.
It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

The omnipresent Dwayne Johnson provides a short intro to “Stuntman,” the kind in which a celebrity host (in this case also one of the film’s producers) jovially warns us that the acts we’re about to see were performed by trained professionals, and under no circumstances should we “try any of this at home.” That would seem a no-brainer. Then again, this documentary’s most appreciative viewers will doubtless be little boys and girls (as well as big ones) who can imagine no career more intoxicating than being the person actually executing thrills ’n’ spills that will appear in finished films or TV shows to have been done by stars like the erstwhile Rock.

It’s a brand new month, and that means that the cycle of Netflix content drops begin anew, with a wide selection of original programming and classics headed our way. And with the first day always bringing the biggest new collection of movies and shows to enjoy, there’s some great stuff that can be checked out right away.
For instance, comedy fans are sure to appreciate that they can now watch the beloved Jim Carrey sequel Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and Dane Cook’s underrated Employee of the Month. Meanwhile, the 1996 classic black comedy Fargo is available, too, and though it has loose connections to the popular FX show of the same name, it’s a great standalone film that’s very much worth a watch.

Netflix has a whole lot of spooks up its sleeve for the month of October.
From Adam Sandler’s “Hubie Halloween” (Oct. 7) to the “Hill House” follow-up “The Haunting of Bly Manor” (Oct. 9), the Halloween-themed goodness is in high supply next month. Watch Netflix’s little teaser reel above.
If you want a gory horror film, try “Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight” (Oct. 28). Other new creepy flicks include “His House” (Oct. 30) “Cadaver” (Oct. 22) and Spanish-language film “The Day of the Lord” (Oct. 30).
For a younger audience, there’s “Vampires vs. the Bronx” (Oct. 2) and “The Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting” (Oct. 15).
In terms of TV, get ready for Volume 2 of Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries” reboot series (Oct. 19), and also check out Season 1 of CBS’ “Evil” (Oct. 1) about a forensic psychologist who comes face to face with evidence that challenges her disbelief in supernatural phenomena.

It seems there’s a “day” for every little thing, and October 2 is National Name Your Car Day. I have not named my car, and in fact consider it a rather ridiculous concept – my fondness for my practical SUV is rooted mainly in its ability to get me from Point A to Point B. But this holiday did make me think back to some memorable cars from some favorite TV shows.
What makes a memorable vehicle from a television program? Just hearing the name of some shows will instantly conjure up a picture of its famous vehicle, which is so indelibly ingrained in the legacy of the program that the car is just as much a star as the human actors. (Kitt of “The Knight Rider” would be very offended if you aren’t thinking of him). There are also some vehicles that are part of a character’s persona...

Sid Haig, a towering character actor with a shiver-inducing grimace, died Saturday at age 80. His wife, Susan L. Oberg, reported his death on Instagram but did not mention a cause of death, though she did write, “This came as a shock to all of us.”

Sid Haig, a veteran character actor best known for his later-in-life roles in Rob Zombie’s horror films House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, died Saturday, his wife Susan Haig announced today on Haig’s Instagram page. He was 80. No cause of death was given.
“He was my angel, my husband, my best friend and always will be,” Susan Haig wrote. “He adored his family, his friends and his fans. This came as a shock to all of us.” See the post below.
Haig’s credits stretch back to the early 1960s, when he eked out a career in small TV and film roles (he was King Tut’s Royal Apothecary on Batman and a bandage-wrapped mummy on an episode of The Lucy Show) then keeping busy with similar appearances through the ’70s, the ’80s and into the 2000s.
But Haig enjoyed newfound attention when Zombie cast him as evil, clown-faced Captain Spalding in the 2003 cult horror film House of 1000 Corpses, its 2005 sequel The Devil’s Rejects and a 2019 follow-up 3 From Hell. Years before the similar Twisty the Clown terrorized American Horror Story: Freak Show, Haig won Fangoria Awards, became a favorite of horror and exploitation fans and made an appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s 2004 pic Kill Bill Vol. 2.
In an Instagram post today, Zombie shared a snapshot of himself and Haig at the Edith Head Costume building at Universal Studios, taken around the turn of the century. Haig is wearing a filthy, tattered clown costume.
“We were both having a good laugh at this crummy, ill-fitting clown suit,” writes Zombie. “It took a few tries to get his look right, but we got there. Who knew that crazy clown would become an iconic horror figure? Certainly not the two guys in the picture.”

All-American race car mania is alive and well in this excellent Jeff Bridges movie, a true biographical story researched by Tom Wolfe. Junior Johnson needs a future beyond running moonshine for his father, and finds it climbing the rungs of success in the stock car racing game. This may be the most satisfying saga of its kind, and it helped prove that Bridges was a star.

Dora the Explorer was seven years old when audiences met her on television, a sing-songy polymath who traveled the map seeking answers and solving puzzles, accompanied by a big-mouthed backpack and equally loquacious monkey, Boots. Nearly 20 years have passed since the adventure show first aired (enough to cultivate a massive global awareness), but only 10 in Dora’s world, which means her live-action debut, director James Bobin’s “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” gives audiences of all ages the chance to see the character — whose unquenchable thirst for education knew no bounds — face the ultimate test: adjusting to an American high school.
If that sounds like a pretext for a snappy, self-parodying TV-to-film adaptation — something in the vein of “21 Jump Street” or “The Dukes of Hazzard,” perhaps — think again. Yes, the movie is postmodern enough to acknowledge that there’s something odd about Dora’s penchant for breaking...

I can’t get enough of those murderous, irascible brats; The Bad Seed (1956) started it for me, and then those weirdo, virginal birth alien kids from Village of the Damned (1960) sealed the deal – kids can’t be trusted. This brings us back to the ‘70s, and before we get to wee Damien, we’re babysitting Devil Times Five (1974), a thriller that goes from low-key creepy to wtf over the span of 88 minutes.
Originally released as Peopletoys in May, it was re-released in June as The Horrible House on the Hill, and then re-re-released in October of ’76 as Devil Times Five. This indecisiveness is par for the course of this production as original (and credited) director Sean MacGregor (Gentle Savage) was booted from the project for only coughing up 38 minutes of usable footage, and veteran producer David Sheldon (Grizzly) was brought in to overhaul and finish things up. Over the years, audiences found themselves getting attached to famous vehicles that became characters on their own rights, and one such car is General Lee: the iconic 1969 Dodge Charger used by brothers Bo (John Schneider) and Luke (Tom Wopat) Duke used in The Dukes of Hazzard.
Decades after the series ended and an ill-advised theatrical motion picture released in 2005, the former moonshiners’ legendary car remained a vehicular monument in the halls of pop culture. To this day, old-school fans of the show and newcomers alike admire the General Lee and spend vast amounts of money to acquire a replica or even a miniature of it. To celebrate the show nearing its 40th anniversary, here are 10 bizarre facts about General Lee that you may not have heard before.

Jimmie Rodgers, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, Johnny Horton, Bill Monroe, Woody Guthrie and Bob Wills all get shout-outs in the first 18 seconds, followed by Kitty Wells, Jimmy Dean, Hank Snow and even Spade Cooley.

“The Dukes of Hazzard” TV star John Schneider remembers meeting Burt Reynolds as a teen and reconnecting after Reynolds starred in the poorly-received 2005 “The Dukes of Hazzard” movie.
Burt was a pioneer in the “on location” film industry. His work in bringing productions to Georgia and providing opportunity for new actors, directors, technicians and stuntmen started many careers. The world of Hollywood, actors, car enthusiasts and truckers owe a lot to this great man. Even when he was the number one box office draw on the planet he always a smile, a laugh and a story for friends both old and brand new.

Horror fans have been looking forward to seeing Mike Flanagan's Before I Wake since the film was teased in trailers back in 2015, but bankruptcy issues at Relativity Media delayed and ultimately brought the movie's release to a halt. Since that time, Flanagan directed two well-received films for Netflix, and the streaming service has now revealed that they will bring Before I Wake out of film purgatory and into the warm glow of the TV screen.
Netflix revealed the exciting Before I Wake news in their full announcement of titles being added to their streaming lineup in January of 2018. Starring Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, and Kate Bosworth, Before I Wake will be available to watch on the streaming service beginning Friday, January 5th, marking its first official release in the Us (it was previously released internationally, including in the UK by Netflix).

Say this for 2018: It can’t be any worse than 2017, right? (Spoiler: It totally can.) At least Netflix’s first batch of offerings inspires cautious optimism in the new year, with everything from the entire “Godfather” trilogy, “Marie Antoinette,” five different “Batman” films and five different “Bring It On” movies (did you even know they’d made that many?), “Midnight in Paris,” the complete “Lethal Weapon” collection, “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” and “The Truman Show” coming to the streaming service in January.

As for Netflix Originals, there are several: “Before I Wake” and “Rotten” are both available to stream as of January 5, “Somebody Feed Phil” and “The Polka King” premiere a week later, “The Open House” arrives on the 19th, and “A Futile and Stupid Gesture” and “Dirty Money” both debut on the 26th.

They famously starred alongside one another in the 2015 big-screen remake of The Dukes of Hazzard. And this Halloween, it appears country icon Willie Nelson was on Jessica Simpson‘s mind!
The 37-year-old “Public Affair” singer got back to her country roots and paid tribute to her former costar by dressing up as him — dawning Nelson’s signature bandana, beard, long braids, and cowboy boots in the costume.
She added a colorful paisley shirt, patriotic scarf and acoustic guitar to complete Nelson’s look, and — in a hat tip to her Dukes of Hazzard character, no doubt — her own pair of Daisy Duke shorts.

Jessica Simpson is paying tribute to a country icon (and a former co-star) with her amazing Halloween ensemble.
Simpson and her husband, Eric Johnson, went all out for their country-inspired couples costume this year. The singer dressed up as Willie Nelson, while her hubby went as Nelson's long-time collaborator Waylon Jennings.
For her costume, Simpson tied her long blonde locks into a pair of braided ponytails and glued a grey beard on her face. She sold the look with an American flag headband, paisley shirt and cowboy boots.
However, Simpson couldn't pass up a chance at showing off her legs, so her version of Nelson is wearing a pair of super-short daisy dukes.

The costuming choice might actually be a reference to her role as Daisy Duke in the 2005 big screen remake of The Dukes of Hazzard, in which she starred opposite Nelson, who played her uncle.

[Editor’s note: This article is presented in partnership with Cinemax in support of Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus, which premieres on September 22nd at 10:00 pm Et/Pt on Cinemax.]
Mike Judge is behind a new TV show this month, with Cinemax’s “Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus,” an animated eight-episode series looking into the lives and times behind some iconic country music performers.
Some of these folks are household names from Nashville to Norway, but others are lesser-known figures from the country music world. They all have distinct styles and, as “Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus” shows, they all led very different lives away from the stage.
We’ll leave the prime anecdotes and animated hijinks to the experts (the series premieres Friday, September 22 at 10pm Et/Pt on Cinemax), but in the meantime, here’s a primer on the musicians that make up the backbone of this illustrated look at country music history.
