Basically this movie gets good when it gets into it's second half Shakti Kapoor and Rajpal Yadav are absolutely stunning they are top of the line in their roles Paresh Rawal excels in his role and the main star cast especially Akshaye Khanna delivers a great job the total misunderstandings which evolve into total chaos delivers for a total 2 and a half hour entertainer Priyadarshan's first entertainer at a crazy comedy i feel is totally worth the attempt especially when i enjoyed his comedy Hulchul which came out after Hungama the songs are OK but the best song is " Mera Dil Tere Paas Rehne Dein" Nadeem-Shravan fans strictly Inever predicted the ending of this movie but i guess it was for the better gut-bursting comedy this is ultimate hilarity at it's best that shouldn't be missed gread job from a Malayalam film director on venture on giving us some Hindi entertainment
I watched this movie because I'm an Akshaye Khanna nut. Although I was sad to see he wasn't in more scenes, clearly it's better to have a supporting role (with top billing!) in a good film than the lead in a bad one.
The plot of this story has so many twists and turns that whomever wrote it should get a literary award. The way the characters are linked together is truly clever and hilarious. I think this movie is 10 times funnier than Hera Pheri.
And, none of the actors disappoint! How great is that?
Very entertaining. 9 out of 10

watched it only yesterday.... with friends...in short its a laugh riot..very well directed by Priyadarshan, the same guy who gave us Hera Pheri. Its confusion all the way in the movie, only the viewers know whats going on. Good acting by Paresh Rawal (as usual), Akshaye, Shakti Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav n even Rimi Sen's acting is praiseworthy. Overall a very good entertaining movie in a class of its own. For all the fans of 'andaz apna apna' n 'hera pheri' a must watch.

This movie was truly awesome! It is so hilarious, it will definitely make you laugh uncontrollably! I have never a seen such a great comedy. This is now my favorite movie. Paresh Rawal, of course, gave another brilliant performance. Akshaye and Aftab also were terrific. It is really funny how all the characters have some connection to each other and how continuous misunderstandings among these 26 characters lead to absolute chaos! Whoever wrote the script for this movie is a genius. The movie also makes fun of cliched Bollywood scenes. If I could, I would give this movie an 11 out of 10. This is one comedy you cannot afford to miss!
Although this film stars some new people, not from Priyadarshan's usual line up (Aftab, Akshaye Khanna, Rimi Sen) it is still the one of the best movies. Akshaye Khanna does a very good job in this movie, and so does Aftab Shivdasani. They provide quite a few scenes with hard laughs, but the best one is Paresh Rawal of course. He delivers another brilliant role just like in Hera Pheri, except in this one he is a wealthy villager. His village accent is very good. I laughed at all his jokes. The rest of the cast did a pretty good job too.
I usually don't give movies 10/10, so as you can see this film had to be that good for me to give it a 10. Other movies that I recommend are: Hera Pheri, Andaz Apna Apna, and Phir Hera Pheri.

Hungama can easily be dubbed as India's answer to the 'Comedy of Errors'.
It works out really well when you do not expect a lot out of a movie and coming out thinking - yeah that was great. That is the case with this one. The cast were not all that appealing and the songs were passable - so when I actually got to watch the movie it made me sit up and realize that maybe bollywood could do comedy and did indeed have a sense of timing and humor.
The confusion or chaos revolves the name Anjali - it is the name of a prominent businessmans (Paresh Rawal) wife and also the name of a girl on the run from her past trying to make it in Mumbai (Rimi Sen). There are then a handful of characters that cross their paths and it inadvertently causes a lot of confusion. There is not enough space here to go into them, so its better to go and watch the movie.
On the acting side the show stealer is Paresh Rawal. He is excellent in this movie - it will have to be said that he is on par if not better then Johnny Lever nowadays, if not better. The two main leads Akshaye and Aftab also were terrific with a good change to see the later doing some good acting. Rimi Sen is good and fits into the story well. The rest of the support cast (and there are plenty of them) are well balanced and compliment the story well.
The two backbone characteristics of the movie namely the script and music would have my mixed views. The story is excellent. But the music left something to be desired.
Overall its one of those movies you would watch when you just want to have fun.

Priyadarshan has always been inconsistent in my opinion. He gives us some good films and then some bad films. A little over 2 years back, he gave a film called De Dhana Dhan which was another "Hungama" type of film. However, that didn't work because it got too messy with its sub-plots. Hungama did not and that is why it is one of my favorite comedies and also one of the most underrated comedies in the past few decades.
Nandu is a struggling singer trying to make it in the big city. Due to some circumstances, he is forced to live with Anjali.
Anjali runs away from her village for a better life and also to get away from a forced marriage to pay her father's debts by coming to Mumbai. She finds a job working for Jeetu
Jeetu tries to woo Anjali, who he thinks is the daughter of millionaire Radheshyam Tiwari..
Radheshyam is a millionaire who tries to give living in a bigger city than a village a try..
Alongside that comes more characters played by Shakti Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Manoj Jodhi, Tiku and Shoma etc.
Many may not agree with me but Hungama is a very smart film because it knows how to keep the viewer compelled to stay on their seat. The writers could have easily confused the viewers but they don't because of the careful writing.
There are flaws, however. Firstly, the script does have some loopholes here and there. Most of them can be overlooked. The major problem I had was with the Aftab-Rimi-Akshaye love story. Rimi's choice does not exactly make sense because throughout the film it does not seem she's interested in any of the guys. One song could have been deleted to smoothen the ride.
Those are pretty minor though. The best scenes in the film include Paresh Rawal, Akshaye Khanna, Shoma and Shakti Kapoor. Hilarious! Also, the Rajpal Yadav track is funny. The climax is fun to watch.
The music is a surprise since Priyadarshan films don't really have great soundtracks. I liked all the songs in the movie here.
When a film does not have a conventional plot, the characters have to be strong and have strong lines. The dialogues are usually the high point of Priyadarshan films and it's the same case here. The lines are witty and rib tickling.
Priyadarshan's directing is good and that's no surprise because he's born to make these kind of films.
Hungama would be incomplete without Paresh Rawal. All the characters are funny but Paresh takes it to another level. A tremendous comic act by a great actor.
Akshaye Khanna is as always, efficient. Aftab does well. Ditto for Rimi. Shakti Kapoor is hilarious. Rajpal Yadav is just mad.. others support well.
Overall - A film with lots of laughs and in the end, it leaves you putting a smile on your face. Recommended!

I have to say that I have never seen a movie with more comedy then this one.... In the movie many stories are progressing in parallel and all of them are beautifully inter-linked. You have to give the story writer the due credit for keeping all stories inter linked. I cant find even a single bad point in this movie. Even the songs are very good specially the video of "Chain aapko Mila".... Never ever I like to see a video of a song more then once but I must have seen it hundreds of times and still I find it hilarious.... The best part of the movie is of course Paresh rawal with his acting. I think all the characters have done justice to their role.
Priyadarshan is widely known for his Comedy Flicks. 'Hera Pheri' is a cult classic, while 'Hulchul' & 'Malamaal Weekly', also gained a following. 'Hungama', is a yet another winning comedy from the talented filmmaker. It's Loud and Funny! It's long, but interesting at the same time.
I had watched 'Hungama' during it's release, way back in 2003, and I enjoyed it. Sure, I found it outrageous, but I remember laughing loudly at a few portions. Over the years, when-ever I re-visit this comedy, It still manages to hold my attention, despite it's visible flaws.
'Hungama' is the story of a bunch of misfits whose misconception about each others backgrounds end up in a series of chaotic, yet comic outcomes.
An adaptation of Priyadarshan's 1984 Malayalam film 'Poochakkoru Mookkuthi', 'Hungama' is mostly an engaging fare, thanks to it's interesting and progressive screenplay, that comes in-tact with memorable dialogue and winning performances by it's talented star cast. But, the writing in the second hour, trends to drag a bit. And some portions, are loud. The climax is over-the-top, but it's funny nonetheless.
Priyadarshan's direction is good. Cinematography & Editing are fair. Songs are fairly okay. Performance-Wise: Paresh Rawal is impeccable. The legendary actor plays his part with unmatchable ease. Akshaye Khanna gets it right, as always. Aftab does deliver in some portions, while Rimi Sen is ordinary. Shoma Anand is amusing. Shakti Kapoor & Tiku Talsania are superb, and bring in a host of laughs. Manoj Joshi, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Narvekar & Razzak Khan are funny as well.
On the whole, 'Hungama' is meant for those who love Haha fares. Thumbs Up!

You can watch this movie in whichever mood you are into. It will always make you laugh and make your day. Superb acting by Paresh Rawal, Akshay Khanna, Rajpal Yadav and others. The plot of all actors is nicely interlinked which reflects the intelligence of the writer.
Priyadarshan is an ace director who gets the most out of all of his actors.

RATED 6/10

Good comedy drama still felt lot of scenes could have been handled better. Sundar C in the same era did lot of better comedies than this in Tamil... I was expecting more based on the earlier Rating of this movie.... but ended of Ok watch.

i normally don't like bollywood films, as i think they are too over-dramatic, and unrealistic but hungama has to be the best Hindi film i have ever seen. although the plot is a bit complicated, i felt the love story emerging was there best bit about the film, as i didn't know what was a going to be the final coupling. it was a film of misunderstandings, which has been done a lot in film, it was still very enjoyable in hungama. the only thing i didn't like was akshaye knanna's character, who i felt was over eager and a bit too cheesy, but i can tolerate him as it was an exceptional film, and i think the more you watch it, the more it will get funnier, but still the best bollywood romantic comedy i have ever seen.

You do not get better comedy than this. Every actor has done full justice to his role (even Aftab Shivdasani has given one his best performances). The chemistry between the actors is awesome and the comic moments just flow with the movie unlike other Bollywood comedies where it seems forced in the storyline. I bet you would want to watch it again n again and you can't stop yourself from mumbling the dialogues after the first watch. Special mention for Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav. Amit Divati and Jagadish for their acting. A great fun movie for your weekend family watch.

This movie firstly has not aged well at all. Secondly, the humour is dated asf. I honestly did not laugh once throughout the film. One of the very poor Priyadarshan movies. I only watched it because I read many reviews of the sequel saying watch the original and that it's a "masterpiece" and absurd stuff like that. You gotta be one crazy person to hail nonsense like this as a masterpiece.
The actors are pathetic. There's a reason why Hera Pheri, Bhopal Bhulaiyya and even De Dana Dan which is the weakest PD movie ever are talked about even today and feel funny even today. It's because of the actors. Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Suneil Shetty, this combo is that reason. Their comic timing is impeccable and their chemistry excellent.
The same is not the case with Hungama. These are some of the poorest actors ever forming the lead cast, barring Akshaye Khanna and Paresh Rawal. Even Shakti Kapoor's character was quite poorly written, thus failing to amuse me at all. I don't know how they cast Aftab Shivdasani and Rimi Sen back in the day in so many movies. They were unbearable. I won't say much about them although I have a lot to. This movie was a waste of my 2 and a half hours.
In conclusion, if you're thinking of watching this movie for the first time, don't do it. It is dated and easily the poorest Priyadashan film. Not worth watching.
2/10.

This movie is in the leagues of those which were not appreciated enough in its own era. The likes of Andaz Apna Apna, Hera Pheri .. which became popular after a few decades, Hungama is another such gem!
Backed by a good storyline, it captures your attention and keeps you laughing all the way through. The scenes do not attempt to create fake laughter out of their audience, but are genuinely funny. The actors have played their part really well and totally justify their casting. The dialogues and their delivery are on point and are able to create humour.
10/10
Just watched this movie again, for the umpteenth time, after watching its sequel (which doesn't seem like a Priyadarshan movie at all!)
