The very funny Tug of War manages to be raunchy and yet completely lovable at the same time - a combination which the British do best. The story is put across with an economy that makes every moment count. Its student heroes are fully recognisable characters from the few clever details provided about each one and their lives are engaging from the minute we encounter them. To make characters feel three-dimensional when there is little time to develop them is a considerable achievement - if you didn't care about them and their bet, the whole thing would be pointless. As it is, you're rooting for them all the way through - if that's the right word under the circumstances. Sexy and streetwise, Tug of War is impossible not to enjoy.
