Last night, Syfy had its “Upfront” presentation, the event when they announce what shows are coming and what’s in development. Not surprisingly, we received seven press releases today for your consumption. I’ve posted the happiest news first:

Syfy Renews Original Drama Being Human For Fourth Season

New York, NY – April 10, 2013 – Syfy is ordering a fourth season (13 episodes) of its hit drama series Being Human, it was announced today by Mark Stern, President of Original Content, Syfy and Co-Head of Original Content, Universal Cable Productions. The announcement comes on the heels of the Season 3 finale which aired Monday, April 8 and in time for Syfy’s Upfront presentation this evening in New York City.

Being Human stars Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath, Sam Huntington and Kristen Hager as vampire Aidan, ghost Sally and werewolves Josh and Nora. Together they struggle to suppress their supernatural secrets and temptations and live their lives...

HBO Canada, a multiplex channel from the two premium cable networks The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Movie Central (Western Canada), announced that the upcoming Canadian half-hour comedy Living in Your Car will premiere on May 7 at 9:30 Pm.

With the unstable economy as a backdrop, Living in Your Car follows Steve Unger (John Ralston), a fallen corporate executive whose rule of the financial world comes to an abrupt halt when he is arrested and charged with fraud, obstruction and racketeering. After cutting a deal to get out of prison, Steve quickly realizes his old life no longer exists: his former colleagues shun him, his wife, Lori (Ingrid Kavelaars), and daughter, Kate (Mariah Horner), don’t want to live with him, and even his own parents refuse to help him. As he clings desperately to the last vestige of his former self – a luxury sedan – Steve finds himself under court...

Highlights for Saturday include Lost, Fringe, a screening of the pilot episode of ABC’s V, a first look at Heroes: Redemption, 2012 and a little film coming out next year you may have heard of: Iron Man 2.

As the annual Canadian Film and Television Production Assn. conference wrapped Friday in Ottawa, performers union Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists joined with the Friends of Canadian Broadcasting, a group representing 66,000 domestic TV viewers, in urging the newly installed conservative government to fire CBC president Robert Rabinovitch and Richard Stursberg, the network's executive director of English television. "These guys are incompetent," ACTRA national executive director Stephen Waddell said of Rabinovitch and Stursberg after the CBC last week canceled three dramas -- Da Vinci's City Hall, This Is Wonderland and The Tournament -- to make room for new series on its fall schedule.

TORONTO -- The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said Monday it is canceling three primetime dramas for weak ratings. The axing of Da Vinci's City Hall, The Tournament and This is Wonderland follows the public broadcaster in early February hiring Kirstine Layfield away from the private sector to become its top programmer. CBC spokeswoman Ruth-Ellen Soles said the national network invested heavily in all three series, only to see their audience numbers underwhelm. "The audiences for all three series have been in steady decline as they did not resonate with Canadians," Soles added.

TORONTO -- A canceled Canadian TV series captured the trophy for drama as the 20th annual Gemini Awards, Canada's TV honors, were handed out in Toronto on Saturday night. The Eleventh Hour, a newsroom drama axed last year by the CTV network, triumphed in the drama category over the CBC legal drama This Is Wonderland, whose leads still came away with an actor trophy for Michael Riley, his fifth Gemini, and an actress Gemini for Cara Pifko. Giving Geminis to canceled or ratings-challenged Canadian shows has become a tradition in a TV market where viewers have long preferred popular U.S. dramas, comedies and reality series in primetime.

TORONTO -- The Eleventh Hour, a Canadian newsroom drama canceled last season, led all comers at the unveiling Tuesday of nominations for the 20th annual Geminis, Canada's TV awards. Hour, which earned two Geminis on 12 nominations at the 2004 Geminis before being axed by the CTV network in the spring, will this year challenge in 15 juried categories, followed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.'s Fifth Estate and Sex Traffic miniseries, each with 14 nominations. The CBC drama This Is Wonderland came away with 12 nominations, as the public broadcaster continues to dominate the annual Geminis competition. Wonderland and another CBC drama, Da Vinci's Inquest, will challenge in the best drama category, facing competition from CTV's Degrassi: The Next Generation and Hour, Chum's Godiva's and Global Television's ReGenesis, which earned eight nominations.

TORONTO -- The Showtime series Queer As Folk will challenge Da Vinci's Inquest, Canada's most popular drama, for the best drama writing prize at the Canadian Screenwriting Awards in April, the Writers Guild of Canada said Monday. Also joining Da Vinci's Inquest's Chris Haddock and Queer As Folk's Shawn Postoff in the best drama category are Alex Epstein (Naked Josh), Jason Sherman (Regenesis), Wayne Grigsby (Snakes and Ladders) and George F. Walker (This Is Wonderland). Queer As Folk is produced in Toronto and also airs on Showcase Television here. In the best comedy competition, CTV's Corner Gas, which is co-written by series star Brent Butt, will face off against The Newsroom, a CBC comedy from Ken Finkleman.
