College professor J.T. Neumeyer is visiting his wife's grave with his daughter, Jesse, on the anniversary of her death. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a mysterious briefcase appears. Inside, J.T. finds the details of and newspaper clippings about his own murder, which is, supposedly, going to happen at the stroke of midnight in five days.

To determine whether or not the future can be changed, J.T. tries saving the life of a woman who, according to the pictures from the future, is also suppose to die in the following few days.

Since the material from the future states that J.T. is going to die in a local nightclub, he decides to leave town before the supposed day of his death arrives.

J.T. changes tactics by attempting to appease or in some other way prevent anyone with the motive to kill him from getting a chance to do it on the fateful evening.

As all his plans to avoid his grim fate backfire and put both himself and his family in even more danger, J.T. is forced to improvise and hope that, just for once, a twist of fate can work in his favor as well.
