'HMS Thundercloud' was shot on location at HMS Forest Moor about a mile down the road from 'RAF' (sic) Menwith Hill the larger and better known US Surveillance (i.e. Spy) base. At the time Forest Moor was the spine of the Defence Communications Network. About a dozen sailors, myself included, were hired by YTV to form the Guard for which we were paid the (princely for those days) sum of £30 each! The cast members were pleasant and approachable especially James Cosmo who had 'previous' for Nautical dramas as he had appeared as the Leading Regulator (Ships Copper) in the long running Warship series. He got some stick from the lads about always being cast as a 'Reggie' which he took in good humour. HMS Forest Moor was a preferred draft for many sailors as it was a short ride into Harrogate with all the delights on offer there.
