Featured review
"Rap Revü Romeó" is a ghetto movie "Romeo&Juia" style. That's the only thing I could appreciate in it. The main character of the movie (János Gálvölgyi) is a Hungarian humorist, so I expected a comedy, but it isn't. The story is very simple, two gangs fight against each other (but it's not really obvious why - stupidity is not sufficient for justification), a gypsy gang led by a former mob (Gávölgyi) and the Chinese gang. Young Romeó, the mob's nephew falls in love with his classmate, the Chinese girl from the opponent gang. Around the middle of the film a third gang appears from the nowhere, led by a dope (played by András Stohl, who usually plays the good guy), just to introduce some violence in the movie, but the connection between these gangs is not really developed. And there's a high school teacher (Eszter Ónódi) with her freak father, yet another nonsense in the story. The whole film looks like a bunch of long clips mushed together, but the glue is missing. Acting is very bad in this movie (except some very marginal characters). At least the soundtrack is colorful and everyone can find one or two good songs that suit his/her musical taste. If you have spare time watch it, otherwise don't waste your time. At least the attempt to remake Rome&Juliet in a very different context is appreciable. That's why I rated this movie 6/10 (otherwise it's only 4/10).
