When the opening scene ended with a pretty cool and gory death, in what was a traditional but fun slasher film build-up, my hopes were kind of high. It feels like we have had very few new slasher movie villains to get excited about. Of course, Michael Myers, Chucky, Ghostface and more are still going strong but other than Art the Clown in the Terrifier franchise, no one seems to have lasted for more than one movie in more recent times. So when Randy Couture is standing tall as Hank, giant axe in hand, things were looking up. But the movie doesn’t quite pan out the way I was expecting.
The Bell Keeper follows a group of friends, including two brothers, who travel to a campsite at Lake Bell.

The image of Santa Claus has been curated over the years to become wholesome and a symbol of happiness. In the past, he had been seen as a representation of Saint Nicholas or Father Christmas. In the 80s, he seemed to take a darker turn as horror filmmakers decided to use his visage to corrupt the viewer’s expectations. This sweet and gentle man would now be a killer. Multiple films decided to use this idea, and a whole sub-genre of horror films was born. Which ones are the best killer Santa movies?

The Christmas season is advertised as a time for "peace on earth" and "goodwill toward men," but for a lot of us, the holidays are little more than a headache and a half. It's hard not to feel like such a Grinch this time of year when everyone else seems to be filled with joy, but fortunately, there are movies to help us anti-sentimentality Scrooges feel a little less alone. We've talked before on /Film about some of the best alternative Christmas movies (that aren't "Die Hard"), but we've never broken down why these films are so important. I might be acting overdramatic by calling these films "non-sentimental," as there's plenty of sentiment to be found in any story (as long as you know where to look), but I think we can all agree that the sentiment of something like Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" is in stark contrast to Bob Clark's "Black Christmas.

The new episode of our The Black Sheep video series doubles as a Christmas viewing recommendation, as we’re taking a look back at the 2005 horror comedy slasher Santa’s Slay (watch it Here) – which stars professional wrestler Bill Goldberg as a very unpleasant Santa Claus. To find out all about the movie and why we think it deserves to be seen by more genre fans, check out the video embedded above!
Written and directed by David Steiman, Santa’s Slay has the following synopsis: It turns out that Santa Claus is not really the sweet old fellow that we all know and love. In fact, he’s a devil and the only thing that’s kept his bad side in check was a bet he lost with an angel. After 1000 years of playing nice, the bet is up and Santa is about to open up a can of Whoop-Ass! The only...

It is time to acknowledge the reindeer in the room; the truth that children and grown-ups alike are aware of, but dare not speak aloud. Santa Claus is terrifying. A strange old man overseeing an industrial complex of magical creatures, and who watches and judges all the children, then sneaks into your home dispatching justice as he sees fit.
Like clowns and DisneyWorld mascots, as a society, we have all agreed to pretend that this is charming and magical and suitable for children, but deep down in the dark part of our souls, we all know the truth. So with that in mind, here are the most terrifying Santas to ever grace a screen. Some intentionally. Some… less so.

You've seen Santa Claus stand as the epitome of seasonal goodwill in movies like "Miracle on 34th Street" and "The Christmas Chronicles." You've even seen Santa as a foul-mouthed drunk with "Bad Santa." But have you seen him stuff a grenade down someone's pants and watch him go kaboom? Well, it appears you're in luck, as director Tommy Wirkola's "Violent Night" sees David Harbour don the big red suit to take out a group of mercenaries holding a family hostage on Christmas Eve. Could you truly ask for anything more?
When it comes to Christmas movies that take a darker, bloodier path with the ultimate gift giver, there's no shortage of them. Genre flicks like "Santa's Slay," "Christmas Evil," and "Silent Night, Deadly Night" show Santa as a bloodthirsty maniac on a mission. HBO and HBO Max will be home to new original films, highly anticipated streaming debuts of new releases, and the finales of three popular series throughout February. Below, we’ve assembled a complete list of everything new on HBO and HBO Max in February 2022, and it includes a new thriller from director Steven Soderbergh and starring Zoe Kravitz called “Kimi.” The original feature takes place in a Covid-19 pandemic Seattle and follows an agoraphobic tech worker who discovers violent crimes have occurred in a data stream. The Max Original film premieres on Feb. 10.
Also coming in February is the “Raised by Wolves” Season 2 premiere on Feb. 3, with new episodes released weekly, as well as the season premiere of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” on Feb. 20. And coming to a close in February are the original series “Euphoria,” “And Just Like That…” and “Peacemaker,” which all air finales this month.

For its list of new releases of February 2022, HBO Max is bringing back one of its biggest original series.
The Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi epic Raised by Wolves helped launch HBO Max back in 2020 and now it’s finally back for another season. Raised by Wolves season 2 premieres with three episodes on Feb. 3. This season will continue the conflict between future atheists and theists on a remote planet, while two androids raise some kids.
February 2022 also sees the end of another, more recent HBO Max hit. Peacemaker airs its finale on Feb. 17. Thankfully that same day sees the premiere of another exciting original. Dream Raider is a Mandarin-language sci-fi thriller that carries some big Inception vibes.
There aren’t many original movies of note this month, but there are a lot of recent hits coming to HBO Max as library titles. Nightmare Alley arrives on Feb. 1, followed by The Many Saints of Newark on Feb.

Earlier this summer, we got wind about a new Christmas action movie starring Dwayne Johnson called "Red One," which was described as "Hobbs and Shaw" meets "Miracle on 34th Street." Do I know what that means? No. Am I excited about it anyway? Abso-freaking-lutely. Why? Because I am a wrestling mark who will watch Dwayne Johnson do anything his heart desires, especially a Christmas movie. Christmas movies are no strangers to wrestlers, with some of the best examples being Bill Goldberg as the slasher Santa in "Santa's Slay," Paul "Big Show" Wight's cameo as the hulking, muscular mall...

After diving into all the great Christmas-themed slashers and horror movies like Silent Night, Deadly Night, Santa's Slay, Christmas Evil, Saint Nick, and many others, it’s sometimes hard to believe there’s another great holiday to revel in just around the corner. There might not be as many films directly centered on ushering in the New Year, but there’s plenty to keep you entertained for a few days and nights.
I realize that not everyone smiles in glee like I do as teenagers get axed and knifed. Some folks just want some alternate choices in the face of all the countdowns and variety shows they’re bombarded with every year. The list I’ve put together includes not only slasher and horror flicks, but disaster, sci-fi, and action-oriented ones as well.

Marvel Studios is taking its biggest risk yet with Guardians of the Galaxy, banking on an obscure team of heroes to bridge the gap until the next Avengers flick roars into theaters. But there's an even larger obstacle standing in the way of box-office success: Dave Bautista.
To the uninitiated, Bautista is a six-time world champion in Vince McMahon's wrestling circus, and one of the most iconic squared-circle stars of the last decade. In Guardians, he plays intergalactic warrior Drax the Destroyer, which is unquestionably his biggest role to date.

Merry Christmas, faithful FEARnet readers! As most of you know, finding a good horror themed Christmas movie is tough, because well... not many of them are good! Naturally there are the few exceptions. The original Black Christmas for example is undeniably one of the top 10 horror movies of all time. The 2006 remake Black XMas however? Well, in retrospect now its good trashy "slasher" fun. If you're wondering what to watch today horror-wise, might I recommend either the Spanish flick Christmas Tale or also Santa's Slay, both currently streaming for free on our web-movies page? And if neither of those is what you're looking for, well we've got a sample of a whole slew of holiday themed chills for you below. Here's a bevy of trailers specifically for holiday themed horror movies. This way you can make a list and check it twice! How many of these have you already seen?...

Time is ticking for all you last minute shoppers who haven't gotten off your butts to finish your holiday shopping. But before you rush out and polish off that list, let us give you one more reason to stay right there in your chair: Santa's Slay.
Starring none other than former professional wrestler Bill Goldberg as the most badass Santa of all time, Santa's Slay is a black comedy that is absolutely more about the laughs and the kills than scaring anyone at all. But it does deliver some noteworthy deaths. The fact that the first five minutes of the film have Santa Goldberg jam a turkey leg down James Caan's throat, light Fran Drescher's head on fire before drowning her in a bowl of eggnog and brain Rebecca Gayheart with a table leg simply sets the tone for what's to come.
Santa's Slay is all about being over-the-top.

Santa Claus is a legend with many names: Kris Kringle, St. Nick and Father Christmas, to name a few. And when we think of the jolly, heavy-set man in red, happy images of presents galore and pleasant childhood memories flood our imaginations. But representations of Santa aren't always the picturesque dreams we had as children -- on the contrary. Sometimes jolly old St. Nick is an evil, burglarizing, murderous man with drinking issues. With movies like "Bad Santa," "Silent Night, Deadly Night," and "Santa's Slay," Père Noël has never seemed so evil.
Watch the mashup above of Bad Santas in film and see if you'll be leaving fewer cookies for St. Nick this year.

The "holiday horror" subgenre is a weird one indeed, requiring a fine tonal balancing act that involves wedding jolly Christmas cheer with bloody visceral scares. There's something about the phony brightness holidays that brings out some really fucked-up shit, and it's a well that many films have attempted, among them the sardonic "Christmas Evil" (one of John Waters' favorite films); the inky "Black Christmas," directed by Bob Clark (who also did "A Christmas Story"); and an episode of "Tales from the Crypt" that Robert Zemeckis directed about an escaped lunatic dressed like Santa Claus. (The less said about the Bill Goldberg-starring "Santa's Slay," the better.) One of the more straightforward holiday horror entries was 1984's "Silent Night, Deadly Night," an easily forgettable slasher film wrapped in Christmas lights and tinsel. Well, that film has been given the remake treatment, re-titled...

It's Christmas time on Double Murder! To get everyone in the mood for this holiday season, Danny! is joined by Lauren Taylor (of News From The Crypt fame) as they review two holiday treats: Rare Exports and Santa's Slay! Both films tackle the age-old question of "What if Santa was actually a murderous beast?" from completely different angles. Rare Exports, a Finnish film from 2010, examines the subject with a serious eye, blending the myth of Santa Claus with the classic "...archeologists start digging and uncover..." trope. Santa's Slay, from 2005, takes a decidedly more tongue-in-cheek approach casting pro-wrestling star Goldberg as a wise-crackin', neck-breakin' Santa. Which one of these films is a welcome present under the tree, and which is a lump of coal? Tune in to Double Murder to find out!

I had every intention of putting Santa's Slay in this spot for The Six Slays of Christmas. Oh what fun it is to ride in a deadly horsed open slay hay! Santa's Slay is pure fun to watch. It does have a pretty good plot but the over the top kills and entertaining performance from the demon Santa (played by former professional wrestler Bill Goldberg) makes up for any inconsistencies. I’ve seen a lot of holiday themed horror movies but I do not remotely consider this entertaining movie to fall in to that. Just sit back and relax and enjoy the entertainment.
The back story is that Santa Claus was originally a demon. He became the giver of happiness to all the children of the world due to a lost bet he made with an angel. He gave up his angelic persona to be mortal in the process. Now the bet is accomplished and Santa is ready to slay you down literally.

You know the deal growing up. We had all the "classic" holiday Christmas specials lined up for us each and every year. How fun it was to listen to Burl Ives in the 1964 classic puppet special Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer? What about other classics like Frosty and Prancer? All great for the kids but one film has been missing and we think it needs to be added to the list. Yes, we are talking about the 2005 holiday horror classic, Santa's Slay. A…...

When the coldest time of the year arrives, the snow it leaves behind may have some people putting on their gloves. Some will tuck in, hiding in the warmth of their homes and others will challenge the winter wonderland head-on. Here are some “inspirational” films to make tackling the winter doldrums just a little more fun. The theme in this list is what kind of beasts may lurk within that icy tundra near and afar?
The Thing from Another World (1951), The Thing (1982 & 2011) DVD & Blu-ray
The Thing From Another World (1951) at Amazon
No list can be complete without mention of the original, John Carpenter’s classic and the prequel in the same breath. When unleashing an alien terror is not enough, a night can be enjoyed watching all three films! Alien invasion cannot be any more disgusting with the innovative monster creations that are to be found in this movie set.

Day 2 is upon us geeks, and I wouldn't have to be a gambling man to wager your Christmas songs are out of date. Luckily for you we comprised a list of geeky, off beat songs for you to have this holiday season.
Some you are sure to know, hopefully some are new to you! When you are done be sure to post your personal favorites in the comments to share with the community!
7. The Killers - "Don't Shoot Me Santa"
Imagine if Santa got tired of your s*** after years of being on the naughty list and decided to take matters into his own hands. While "Don't Shoot Me Santa" may not be the geekiest on the list, it sure would've been a welcome addition to that horrible Christmas horror film Santa's Slay.

Tremors? Nightbreed? Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat? 976-evil? Are all on the list this year. And though there were not huge horror wins in sound editing through screenplays, the Technical Awards never cease to bring out the horror veterans. Notably Tim Drnec who contributed to such VHS classics as Alien Seed, Destroyer, and Prison won for his work on “Spydercam 3D volumetric suspended cable camera technologies.” An award also shared with Ben Britten Smith and Matt Davis who both also worked on Constantine.
But among all the winners, the Academy also honored some great loses in 2010. And though they mentioned some of our heroes, Dennis Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Dino de Laurentiis (King Kong), they did not mention Zelda Rubinstein or Corey Haim. But we will in this last section and the others lost to us last year.

I don't normally knock out "Top Ten" lists very often. I always find myself fighting to figure out which film I actually enjoyed more but when the guys asked me to come up with a "Top Ten Horror Flicks of 2010" I figured it would be a breeze. Only after I started did I find out that instead of trying to decide what the best was, I would be left wondering if there were even 10 good horror films released in 2010...
I was really stretching the limits of what one would consider horror with some of these and other films only made the list because they just happened to be better than what was left even if I didn't really enjoy them that much. It was an odd year for horror but when it hit the mark, it blew it open. Check what made the list and see if you agree.

There are so many holiday movies out there, one could conceivably spend the rest of one's life watching them back to back... and it's often tempting to give that a shot. For many -- myself included -- there's nothing better than laughing through the first two hilarious installments of "Home Alone" or sobbing through "It's a Wonderful Life" to snap them into the Christmas spirit.
Not everyone is a sucker for feel-good Christmas movie clichés, however. And once in a blue moon, Hollywood (or a Very independent film company elsewhere) pops out a Christmas flick that doesn't feature clumsy burglars falling down stairs or James Stewart tearfully embracing his family. I'm talking about scary Christmas movies, or at least holiday movies that are meant to be frightening but come across as comically ridiculous. The seasonal red and green colors take on new meaning when the red...

I admit it. Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love presents, the whole family thing, decorating trees, and demon incarnations of Santa Claus that conduct wholesale butchery of children. I mean, I know I'm not alone in that, right?
Right?
Shit.
Anyway, the "bloody massacre during the holidays" genre has been sorely lacking since the days of Silent Night, Deadly Night (Santa's Slay and . Well thankfully, those wacky Dutch have found a way to fill that hole, with the upcoming Sint, synopsized thusly:
"Saint Nicholas is not the good-hearted children's friend as people think he is. In reality he is a cruel bloodthirsty bishop who, whenever there's a full moon on December 5, will try to slaughter as many children as possible."

What actually prompted me to watch Santa's Slay was an article. When you list a movie as being so bad it must be seen then I'm interested regardless of that fact that an evil santa is already of interest. I must say that I am most grateful for that article for finally convincing me to see it. Now I will say this it while it doesn't make the grade as a good movie it is also not a waste of time and rather enjoyable as a bad film, it's not Troll 2 but then again what is? Now most of why I can't go there and say this film is good is the story which while original is lacking....

Quickly eliminate Santa's Slay from you mind, it's sounding as if someone finally cracked the combo of "the real" Santa Claus and horror. Building a nearly out of control amount of buzz at the Toronto Film Festival is Jalmari Helander's children's horror tale from Finland, Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, which tells of a not-so-magically Christmas discovery: buried 486 metres deep under the Korvatunturi mountains is the real mother 'effin Santa Claus. That's all I'm going to tell you, but let's just say he's "naughty". While I won't be able to catch the flick, we've got Roxanne on the case who'll return with her thoughts in the coming week. Until then, check out the poster, trailer and more!

Actor Robert Culp died today of injuries he sustained in a fall. The star appeared in such horror films as Santa's Slay and Silent Night, Deadly Night III (and such genre shows as The Greatest American Hero and I Spy). But his best genre work was in a handful of episodes of the original The Outer Limits, including "Demon with a Glass Hand", the tale writer Harlan Ellison claims inspired The Terminator (a credit to Ellison can be seen in the film's end credits), and "The Architects of Fear", which many feel inspired Alan Moore's Watchmen. Watch Culp deliver a very menacing freak-out in a clip from that episode after the jump.

Tis the season to be naughty if you're a horror fan! For this holiday season we've rounded up several horror themed Christmas movies. From a Wrestling Santa to killer Snowman, we've picked favorites and it's up to you to check our list, count it twice and see if it's naughty or nice! Then, feel free to comment and give us your list of top Christmas Horror flicks!
10. Santa's Slay (2005)
If not the best premise for a horror movie ever! In Santa’S Slay Mr. Claus is actually the spawn of Satan who has only pretended to be nice for the past 1,000 because he lost a bet to an angel. However, when he's done with being nice he goes on a naughty killing spree. As far as we know, this is the only flick where the actual Santa (not somebody in disguise) is going on a murderous rampage. But that’s still not the best part.

There's nothing particularly good to report this afternoon, so how about we make fun of dumb people -- Christmas Edition!.
Here are two trailers for obscure Santa movies, both of which look kind of awesome in drink-til-you-puke elves sort of way. The first is Santa's Slay, a 2005 film (with Chris Kattan!), which is premised on the fact that Santa is actually a demon who lost a bet with an Angel, and is forced to become Santa ... until the bet ends, at which point Santa turns into a nasty former wrestler trying to pay his mortgage.
Here's the trailer followed by a few YouTube comments, for flavor:
-- Hahaha I Remeber Dis Movie!!! its funnier den hell!!!
-- Santa Is The Fucking Juggernaut
-- this movie is Lmfao!! my fave part it when the boy shines a laser flashlight in santa's eye and santa yells "Im Santa Claus!!! Not F***Ing Dracula!

It's the happiest time of the year ... once again. Rather than dole out the standard list of the best holiday classics to warm your heart, we prefer to shake things up a bit with our look at everyone's favorite bearded fat man, Santa Claus.
Now we all know that Edmund Gwenn was a wonderful Santa in Miracle on 34th Street, the only actor to take home an Oscar as St. Nick. And actors such as Ed Asner in Elf and David Huddleston in Santa Claus: The Movie have certainly done the red suit justice on the silver screen.
But what about those other Santas? The ones that took the legend of Santa in a different direction: Boozing, scaring, kicking, and even killing? Those are the ones we take a look at in Ho, Ho, Whoa!: The 5 Worst Movie Santas.

James from Out 1 here to wish you all a happy holiday season. I was sitting here tonight watching It's A Wonderful Life and thinking about all the Christmas movies that we all see year after year after on TV. There are a lot of Christmas movies out there, and some of the ones we don't hear about so much are Christmas related horror movies. I'm a big fan of Christmas horror, although most of it, admittedly, isn't very good. Still, I'm always up for shaking up Christmas spirit with some good ole Christmas fear. There may be slim pickins, but I wonder if anyone else out there has some oddball Christmas movies that they watch every year. Among my horror picks are the Silent Night, Deadly Night series (mainly the first two, see the picture above) and Santa's Slay starring former professional wrestler Bill Goldberg. I'm also big on The Nightmare Before Christmas...

M8 Ent. posts Q2 loss of $2.6 mil
TORONTO -- Canadian film producer M8 Entertainment on Friday posted a second-quarter loss of CAN$2.6 million ($2.1 million), against a profit of CAN$1.4 million in 2004, on sharply lower revenues attributed to a lack of film releases. Revenues for Montreal-based M8 fell to CAN$6.6 million ($5.3 million) for the three months to March 31, against a year-earlier CAN$21.5 million when the producer had Monster in wide release. Despite falling into the loss column for the second straight month after nine months of profitable business, M8 Entertainment said its second-half film slate -- which includes Lovewrecked, Santa's Slay and Man About Town -- promised increased revenues.

VIP film fund hitches ride on 'Santa's Slay'<BR clear="none"/>
COLOGNE -- German film fund VIP said Wednesday it has hopped on board Santa's Slay, the Christmas-themed horror comedy being produced by Media 8 Entertainment and Brett Ratner's Rat Entertainment. The feature, written and directed by David Steiman, features wrestling star Bill Goldberg as an evil St. Nick who hands out death instead of toys. Robert Culp, Emilie de Ravin and Saul Rubinek also star. Shooting has already begun in the Canadian province of Alberta. VIP previously teamed with Media 8 to produce Patty Jenkins' Monster, which won the Best Actress Oscar for star Charlize Theron. The German fund is also backing Running Scared, Wayne Kramer's follow up to The Cooler, which Kramer and partner Michael Pierce's True Grit shingle are producing together with Rat Entertainment. Media 8 is the executive producer on the project. Running Scared is set during a single night and follows two young boys who get hold of the gun used by a mobster to kill a police officer. Paul Walker is in negotiations to star as the father of one of the boys who has to take to the street to find the gun before the mob realizes it is missing.
