Endemol Shine India has acquired the rights to Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s unreleased book Lioness: The Last Queen.

Indian author Divakaruni’s previous books include The Mistress Of Spices, Palace Of Illusions and One Amazing Thing, all of which have been optioned or adapted for screen.

Lioness is a historical novel based on the life of a beautiful, charismatic and hotheaded Indian Queen. Mumbai-based book to screen company The Story Ink has put the deal together and will also be involved as one of the producers.

Anupam Kher has been honoured by the Los Angeles City Council for his cinematic achievements.

The Silver Linings Playbook star was conferred with the City Proclamation by Herb J. Wesson, Jr, president of Los Angeles City Council.

In a statement to Ians, Kher said: "The Proclamation from the City of Los Angeles would be an endorsement of the fact that Asian actors are not seen as peculiar phenomena on a global platform.

"Of course, most of my films are Indian and I am an Indian actor. It was given to me on the same day as they gave it to the legendary Dick Van Dyke," he added.

Kher has starred in over 450 Bollywood films and had key roles in international films including Bend It Like Beckham, The Mistress of Spices and Silver Linings Playbook.

New Delhi, Feb 27: Veteran actor Anupam Kher was honoured by the Los Angeles City Council with the City Proclamation for his cinematic achievements.

The honour was bestowed upon the actor by Herb J. Wesson, Jr., president, Los Angeles City Council and Tom Labonge, council member, 4th District, Tuesday.

Anupam has been actively involved in international cinema and has done films like "Bend It Like Beckham", "The Mistress of Spices" and most recently "Silver Linings Playbook".

Cinematographer-director Santosh Sivan has been invited to sit on the Jury of the International Competition section at the Jeonju International Film Festival (Jiff) 2013. Headed by Kazakhstani filmmaker Darezhan Omirbayev, the jury also includes Korean director Ryoo Seung-wan, Us academic Don Fredericksen and Korean actor Jung Woo-sung.

Sivan, a Films and Television Institute of India (Ftii) graduate, has been to South Korea earlier with his films Navarasa, Before the Rains and Tahaan screening at the Busan International Film Festival. He was also selected at the Asian Project Market (Apm) 2012 for his project Ashes.

Some of his noted works as a cinematographer are Dil Se.., Bride and Prejudice, The Mistress of Spices and Iruvar and as a director are Asoka, Urumi, Prarambha and The Terrorist.

The 14th edition of Jiff will be held from April 25 – May 3, 2013.

Indian film actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are on a private vacation in the UK. British actor Sir Ben Kingsley—best known for his Oscar-winning performance as the famous Indian independence leader in 'Gandhi' (1982)—is set to play the emperor who built the Taj Mahal, and Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will reportedly play the emperor's beloved wife, in 'Taj,' a film about the legendary lovers.

Shooting is scheduled to start in July, primarily in the Indian city of Agra, where the Taj Mahal is located. The film is expected to release in 2011.

America and Bollywood are quite taken with each other these days. It started out as a flirtation many years ago, with occasional teases that seemed promising but failed to lead anywhere. And then a little movie called 'Slumdog Millionaire' came along, and even though it was not a product of Bollywood, it pitched America into a full-blown affair with India and its cinema.

However, the heady new relationship almost immediately hit a bump. Bollywood producers boycotted multiplex cinemas in India for two months this spring, refusing to release new films because of a revenue-sharing dispute.
