Shawn Mendes just released his brand new, self-titled album Shawn!

The 26-year-old musician stripped down the music to share stories of the past few years of his live on his fifth album.

“This album feels like medicine to me,” he shared in a statement. “It helped me reconnect with myself—allowing me to work through emotions, find clarity, and feel stronger. Each song captures a moment from that journey, and I hope it brings a sense of peace and joy to everyone who listens.”

Shawn wrote and co-produced the new LP alongside his collaborators Scott Harris, Mike Sabath, Nate Mercereau and Eddie Benjamin. Amy Allen and Ethan Gruska also contributed writing credits.

Shawn features previously released tracks “Heart of Gold,” “Why Why Why,” “Nobody Knows” and “Isn’t That Enough.”

Included on the album is the song “The Mountain,” where he opens up about his sexuality.

The winners of the 25th Annual Latin Grammys were announced on Thursday, Nov. 14. The first results were revealed at the Premiere Ceremony at 1:15pm Eastern. Then the rest of the prizes were handed out during an event that aired live at 8:00pm Eastern on Univision, Galavisión, and ViX.

Ace Japanese film director Kore-eda Hirokazu is in advanced post-production on “Asura,” a family drama series that marks his second show for global streaming giant Netflix.

“Asura,” which will premiere on Jan. 9, 2025, is a modern take on “Like Asura” a 1979 family drama series that was originally based on a Mukoda Kuniko novel of the same title. Airing on public broadcaster Nhk, it became a template for Japanese family drama series for many years and sparked a feature film adaptation in 2003.

Set in 1979, the story follows four sisters — Tsunako, Makiko, Takiko, and Sakiko — whose lives are shaken by the discovery of their aging father’s affair. Like the “asura,” demigods in Buddhist cosmology, these women embody a whirlwind of emotions, clashing fiercely yet sharing moments of profound connection. As they navigate their differing views on love and life, their journey is marked by both conflict and growth.

The 26-year-old “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” singer went for solo hike around the trails of Santa Monica, Calif. on Tuesday afternoon (November 5).

For his outing, Shawn showed off his tattooed muscles while wearing a gray tank shirt with tan pants and black sneakers with a headband holding back his hair.

Shawn is gearing up to release his fifth studio album, titled Shawn, on November 15. Back in September, he released the music video for Nobody Knows,” which was the first single off of the album.

During a recent performance, Shawn spoke candidly about his sexuality, admitting that he’s still figuring it out.

Chicago – On Friday, October 18th, the 60th Chicago International Film Festival (Ciff) paid tribute to one of Japan’s master directors, Kore-eda Hirokazu. The filmmaker achieved international acclaim for films like “After Life” (1998), “Distance” (2001), “Nobody Knows” (2004), “Like Father, Like Son” (2013) and in 2018, Kore-eda won Cannes’ highest award, the Palme d’Or, with his film “Shoplifters.”

After previously being spotted at the beach in Miami on Wednesday, the 26-year-old singer was seen going surfing while enjoying the beautiful weather in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Friday (September 20).

Shawn was joined by some friends and also played soccer on the beach while relaxing ahead of his Rock in Rio festival performance on Sunday. He just touched down in Rio on Thursday and was immediately seen going to his hotel pool to chill out.

Japanese master filmmaker Kore-eda Hirokazu is set to receive the Career Achievement Award at the 60th Chicago International Film Festival, it was announced today. Featuring a retrospective program of six selected films, the acclaimed writer-director will receive the award on Friday, October 18, at a tribute screening of Nobody Knows, presented in 35mm, and participate in a conversation exploring his storied career. The 60th Chicago International Film Festival runs October 16 – 27, 2024 at venues across the city. The Kore-eda Hirokazu Tribute and Retrospective is co-presented in partnership with the Japan Foundation New York. Additional support is provided by Ana.

In addition to Nobody Knows, which screened at the 2004 Festival, the 60th Chicago International Film Festival retrospective program features films that were showcased in past editions, including 2013’s Like Father, Like Son; the 2016 film After The Storm; 2018’s Shoplifters; and Broker in 2022. 1998’s After Life marks that title’s Chicago International Film Festival debut.

The creepy show, in which Yagira portrays a damaged police detective on the heels of a gangster-like family in a troubled village, has been a ratings winner in terms of minutes watched for the streamer. Disney has given a green light to a second season of Japanese drama -horror series “Gannibal.”

Set in a fictional Japanese village, season one of Gannibal saw recently relocated police officer Agawa Daigo arrive in his new home a broken man. Wrestling with his guilt over an event that traumatized his daughter, things started off promisingly for the new arrival before a series of alarming events quickly led Agawa to the horrifying realization that something was deeply wrong with the villagers and the mysterious Goto family.

Yagira Yuya (“Nobody Knows”) is confirmed to return in the starring role of police officer Agawa, while Kasamatsu Sho returns as Goto Keisuke, the head of the Goto family, and Yoshioka Riho as Agawa Yuki, Agawa’s strong and supportive wife. Yagira’s performance in the role has earned him a nomination as best actor in the Busan International Film Festival’s Asia Contents Awards & Global Ott Awards.

Great Absence, the second feature film from Japanese director Kei Chika-ura, is receiving its world premiere in Toronto International Film Festival’s Platform section.

Inspired by Kei’s real-life experiences, the film tells the story of an actor living in Tokyo who is forced to travel home when the police call to say his father is suffering from dementia and has lost touch with reality. Making matters worse, his father’s second wife appears to be missing.

The actor makes the trip home with his own wife, full of conflicted emotions over a man who left the family when he was still a child, and starts an exploration into the mysteries of his father’s life. The festival will also present the Cut Above award for Outstanding Achievement to actor Yuya Yagira for his role in Kentaro’s Under The Turquoise Sky, which will screen as the Centerpiece Film. Yagira was the youngest ever winner of Best Actor at the Cannes film festival for Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Nobody Knows in 2004. Yagira and Kentaro will both attend the festival.

The second day of Cannes saw the start of the competition screenings, with Hirokazu Kore-eda and Catherine Corsini leading the pack. Though The Film Experience's writer at the festival, Elisa Giudici, wasn't convinced by the Japanese master's latest effort, Monster has been met with critical support. Nothing comparable to the reception of his Palme d'Or-winning Shoplifters, but still encouraging. As for Corsini, her Homecoming has caused controversy because of a sex scene featuring underage actors, which the director admits she'd approach differently in the future, citing the need for intimacy coaches. A masturbation scene was also eventually cut from the film after it cost production funding from France's National Cinema Centre.
