Donen, de Oliveira roar with Golden Lions
ROME -- Filmmakers Stanley Donen and Manoel de Oliveira will be honored with career Golden Lions at the 61st Venice Film Festival, organizers said Wednesday. The career Golden Lion is awarded to active filmmakers who have left a mark on 20th century cinema. De Oliveira will receive the award in the second week of the festival, which runs Sept. 1-11, and will attend the world premiere of his latest work, O Quinto Imperio (The Fifth Empire), a movie about 16th century King Sebastian of Portugal and his failed effort to spread Christianity to North Africa.
