Cliff Saxton is the Archivist for Micds (Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School), known as St. Louis Country Day School when Vincent Price attended in the 1920’s. In 2011 I asked Mr. Saxton to write an article about Vincent Price’s days at Country Day in honor of Vincentennial, the Vincent Price 100th Birthday Celebration, which we were preparing. There is information here I have never seen in any biographies of Vincent Price and I thank Mr. Saxton for taking the time to research and write this article. In honor of it being Vincent Price week here in St. Louis with Victoria Price in town for three fun events (read about the details of those Here), We Are Movie Geeks has decided to re-post Cliff Saxton’s article.

Air crash investigators have discovered that Andreas Lubitz deliberately accelerated Germanwings Flight 9525 moments before it crashed in the southern French Alps. The evidence comes from the airplane's second flight data recorder, which was brought to the offices of the French Bea air accident investigation agency on Thursday. The Bea team started opening operations as soon as it arrived. "The initial readout shows that the pilot present in the cockpit used the autopilot to put the aeroplane into a descent towards an altitude of 100 ft," a statement from the Bea reveals. "Then, on several occasions during the descent, the pilot modified...

Superheroes and fairy tales dominated the midseason lineup at ABC’s upfront presentation, with shows like Galavant and Marvel’s Agent Carter coming soon. “We may be a terrible network,” joked Jimmy Kimmel, “but we are a great birthday party for a 6-year-old.” But for fall, ABC stuck to the basics: broad comedies, police procedurals, and Shonda Rhimes, whom ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee described as the Charles Dickens of our generation. Her latest show, How to Get Away With Murder, isn’t exactly Great Expectations, but it might be the only new ABC series worth watching. Quick takes on the others follow below.

Do lead-ins still matter? Will ABC -- after pulling limited series The Assets -- stick with the short-order series? How will the network's Marvel series differ from Netflix? These and many other questions were fair game Friday as ABC presented at the Television Critics Association's semi-annual press tour. ABC's Paul Lee also addressed questions about the international hit Rising Star's U.S. format and its approach to pilot season as part of its daylong presentation that also included panels for Resurrection, Mixology, Suburgatory, The Black Box and Mind Games. Here's a look at what we learned: 1. Lead-ins

I started writing this piece a little over two years ago when, wondering if this was a debate whose terms I wanted to propagate, I thought twice. After the recent Godard retro in New York, however, thinking thrice, I've decided not to think about it again. With very special thanks to Sam Engel, Matthew Flanagan, Danny Kasman, Andy Rector, Gina Telaroli, who provided so much of the source code for this piece. There's no greater fount of wisdom in the world for a guy to plagiarize.

Roger and Paul were reportedly going ‘at least twice’ the speed limit of 45 Mph on Nov. 30, when they died in a fiery car crash, authorities said.
The results from the autopsies are not yet available, but Paul Walker and Roger Rodas were reportedly going approximately 90 miles per hour, according to a statement Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detective Jeff Maag gave to People.

Ah, the police drama, it is perhaps the most watched type of series on television, in league with the soap and the medical drama. So, it comes as little surprise that Amazon wants in on the procedural goodness. The streaming service has given Bosch the green light.
Based on the New York Times Best Selling novels by Michael Connelly, the pilot will center on Harry Bosch, a veteran police homicide detective who works in the city of angels for the Los Angeles Police Department. I have a soft spot for Lapd tales! And the field is wide open with Southland not getting renewed again.

Exclusive: Amazon Studios is moving quickly to expand its original slate. After focusing on comedies and kids programming in its first batch of 14 pilots, five of which — two comedies and 3 kids shows — were picked up to series three weeks ago, the company is already setting its sights on the next target — launching a drama series. I’ve learned that the streaming service has greenlighted its first drama pilot, Bosch, a police procedural based on Michael Connelly‘s novels about Harry Bosch, a veteran police homicide detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. I hear the pilot was written by Connelly and Treme co-creator/executive producer Eric Overmeyer, who are executive producing with Fabrik’s Henrik Bastin and Mikkel Bondesen. Bosch has been at the center of or featured in 20 novels by Connelly, starting with the 1992 The Black Echo and most recently, last fall’s The Black Box. This marks Fabrik...

Division was decimated with a skeleton crew left, the black box was for sale, and it was only a matter of how long before the President realized what was going on and gave the kill order. The situation for those left at Division was desperate until a surprising ally walked through the door to save the day.
In "High Value Target," Cyrus paid back Nikita for saving his life by providing the crucial intelligence they needed to prevent the black box from getting into enemy's hands and used for nefarious purposes. He picked the perfect time to pop in and save the day, well, until his life was put in danger once again.
Nikita season 3 has done an amazing job of using the past to inform and influence the present. While Amanda's mission at the beginning of the season was a little weak, it's grown into a nice driving force for the characters.

The Black Box TV YouTube Original Channel has seen an impressive growth since joining Google's slate of funded channels; it now has more than 365,000 subscribers. Still the horror channel hasn't let popularity go to its head. It continues to produce top-notch content, which is probably why one of the channel's writers, Tony Valenzuela, won the Streamy Award for Best Writing in a Drama. But Valenzuela has his sights set on bigger, scarier, more thrilling heights. In an interview with Shira Lazar on What's Trending, he revealed that Black Box TV will release a feature film-length production sometime in 2013. He also discussed why he loves the Internet, so check out the entire nine minute interview if you enjoy watch excitable filmmakers discuss the craft they love. Valenzuela was purposefully vague about the project, and I'm pretty sure he used the word "maybe" over 9,000 times during his discussion of the feature. Still,...

When Season 2 of "Nikita" began, Percy's (Xander Berkeley) sadistic right-hand woman, Amanda (Melinda Clarke), had ousted her boss and taken control of Division -- but by the end of the year, Nikita (Maggie Q) had dethroned the queen bee and forced her to go on the run. Luckily for Amanda, she's still in possession of Percy's remaining black box, which holds enough incriminating information to decimate several governments.
Amanda makes her first appearance of Season 3 in the Friday, Nov. 9 episode, "Consequences," (9 p.m. Et on The CW) and it's no coincidence that the episode also marks the return of fan-favorite Guardian Owen (Devon Sawa), since their stories are inextricably linked. Earlier this week, HuffPost TV caught up with Melinda Clarke to preview Amanda's long-awaited return, her evil scheme to get even with Nikita, and what exactly she's planning to do with Owen if she manages to sink her claws into him.

The Soap Myth Written by Jeff Cohen Directed by Arnold Mittelman Produced by National Jewish Theater
Great theater is not always a comfortable experience -- indeed, a measure of unease might be a requirement for compelling drama. The Soap Myth, a superbly written, acted, and directed play, richly compensates the audience for whatever discomfort they might experience along the way to this play's conclusion. The action of this chamber drama is carried forward by a series of amazingly crisp, powerful, and natural conversations among the four-person cast. There are various pairings and groupings of the four, with two players portraying additional characters. The topic is one man’s passionate and relentless quest to conclusively answer what has become a lingering question: Did the Nazis actually manufacture soap from the body fat of their Jewish victims?
The man with the answer is Milton Saltzman (Greg Mullavey), a camp survivor, a witness...

The busiest month of the year for horror fans started with multiple events to choose from, including the Big Bear Horro-Fi Film Festival in beautiful Big Bear Lake, California. The mountain location, with its vast forested areas, is perfect for telling campfire tales or watching horror movies. The festival itself took place in the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center with nighttime activities held on a ship, at a local nightclub, and in a restaurant, all great locations to have fun and be spooked.
The festival hosted workshops by some of the horror business’ greatest such as writer, magazine publisher, director, and producer Kerry O’Quinn; composer Harry Manfredini; and Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller. Feature films (classic and new), shorts, and medium-length films were all shown as part of the festival’s film competition and special screenings. We have some really exciting news for fans of Hammer’s Dracula (1958). Hammer has revealed that a longer Japanese cut of the the film has been located and they are planning to restore the additional footage into a future release of the film. Included in the extended scenes is extra footage from Dracula’s disintegration.
“In 2007 Hammer and the BFI collaborated on a restoration of Dracula that resulted in the creation of a new HD master of the classic film. The version that was restored was the American print, which is slightly longer than the British version, but the re-master has the original title card added to the beginning (the Us version of the film carried the title Horror Of Dracula).
However, for many years historians have pointed to the fact that an even longer, more explicit, version of the film played in Japanese cinemas in 1958. Up until now, efforts...

The 4th annual Minneapolis Underground Film Festival, which is now open for submissions, is mixing things up a little bit this year. The fest has appointed a new Director, Mark Hanson, to inject some new blood into the proceedings. And if there’s something Muff usually likes, it’s a little blood with their cinema.
It’s not known yet what new visions Hanson will bring to the table, but Muff has previously been known to enjoy the exploitation side of underground filmmaking, as one can tell from last year’s lineup, which included gruesome and spooky fare such as Drew Bolduc and Dan Nelson‘s over-the-top offensive The Taint.
The fest also screened the female vampire film Camilla Hyde, directed by Dave de Vries; John Ervin’s Vixen Highway, Carlos Atanes‘ Maximum Shame and Bill Cooper’s Hunting Buddies. But, they also screened lighter documentaries such as Michael Peterson...

Article by Cliff Saxton
Cliff Saxton is the Archivist for Micds (Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School), known as St. Louis Country Day School when Vincent Price attended in the 1920′s. I recently asked Mr. Saxton to write an article about Vincent Price’s days at Country Day in honor of Vincentennial, the Vincent Price 100th Birthday Celebration. There is information here I have never seen in any biographies of Vincent Price and I thank Mr. Saxton for taking the time to research and write this article, which is making its premiere here at We Are Movie Geeks
In 1922, St. Louis Country Day School welcomed a young man who would become one of the school’s most illustrious graduates — and whose celebrated acting career would be encouraged on the stage of the school’s auditorium. In the fall of that year, Vincent Leonard Price, Jr. was among 30 boys...

Meet the taxi meter that would take over the world. World Moto wants to bring meters--durable, advertising-enabled, black-box-housing, tamper-proof meters--to the 200 million motorcycle taxis that are so popular in the developing world.
As gadgets go, it's hardly the sexiest. It's a meter. For taxis. For motorcycle taxis, to be precise. And yet it might just be a $3 billion dollar idea.
Paul Giles, President of World Moto, whose new Moto-Meter hits the streets of Bangkok in March, remembers when he first got the idea for his product. An American ex-pat in Bangkok, Giles was hanging out with some motorcycle taxi drivers. It's a common profession in Thailand, where traffic often clogs the path of cars, leading some 700,000 Thai men and women earn their living by weaving moto-taxis in and out of traffic. In recent years, moto-taxis have become wildly popular not only in Thailand but across the cities and towns of Asia,...

Shorts
Directed by: Robert Rodriguez
Cast: Jimmy Bennett, Trevor Gagnon, Jolie Vanier, Jon Cryer, Leslie Mann, James Spader.
Running Time: 1 hr 15
Rating: PG
Plot: A wishing rock wreaks havoc in the hi-tech community of Black Falls.
Who’s It For? The cynic in me wants to say dim ten-year-old boys.
Expectations: The previews didn’t look too promising, but I do like kid’s movies. So maybe…
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Jimmy Bennett as Toe Thompson: Bennett has his very own gawky, awkward charm and it mostly works. He was fantastic as the young James T. Kirk in Star Trek and in Shorts he floats along with the rest of the movie without much incident. There are some periods in his narration that are physically, painfully bad, and therefore…
Score: 3
Trevor Gagnon as Loogie: Someday, Gagnon may learn to act, but alas, that day is still in the distant future.
