"They Are Among Us" is poor science fiction at best. Mediocre acting bogs down this film. The plot holes are numerous. Aliens that somehow came to earth on a meteor and have been hiding among us for over 100 years, but need a plastic surgeon to make them appear human. In their alien form they supposedly have exo-skeletons (which is why they need the plastic surgery) but when you see them they have teeth and fingernails. The heroine's father "disappeared" after Project Blue Book closed, but was supposedly an F-16 pilot. And on and on. If you want to see an alien invasion movie, pick "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", and see how it is done right.

The premise of this SF film sounds good, with a decent trailer that looks like a rip off of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Unfortunately if only that were true, as the film lacks any tension, makes little sense, and jumps all over the place, giving you no idea of what is actually happening. Average acting doesn't help, and Alison certainly needs some lessons from dad Clint, as her action hero role does not quite hold up.
The budget was obviously low, as the effects in it are quite poor, with some ridiculous creatures that look like rejects from a 1950's Z Movie. One to avoid I feel.

My friends and I rented this from Blockbuster because we saw Nana Visitor's name on the box. This movie is a travesty I hope she negates from her CV.
The "plot" was lose and flaccid, the acting was mostly dry and unbearable in some parts. The movie made no sense whatsoever. The rough plot of an alien parasite species that infects humans has been done many times by films with much better scripts than this, for example, invasion of the body-snatchers and The faculty.
If you ever have the misfortune to come across this movie, I suggest you burn it.
How it classes itself as a horror movie when there was no use of fear, suspense, gore, terror or any of the usual horror film techniques I don't know, however if you still find yourself wanting to watch this film I suggest you have a lot of sugar before hand, so you can find parts of it funny.

I am only writing this out of utter shock that I rented this for almost 4 pounds. Because the story is supposedly similar in nature as 'the body snatchers' you might be tempted to give this a try, however: Its barely watchable. Most annoying of all is that the script is all over the place: you'll wonder why they are running back and forth. After a while you stop caring as the characters are so badly constructed, you hardly feel for them as they pointlessly run all over the place. Ending is sudden and leaves you none the wiser as to the supposed background story. As in any B-movie, bad casting as some characters have been blatantly chosen for their looks instead of their acting ability.

I am very tolerant of really bad sci/fi and horror movies - I've been watching them since I was 4 or 5, so I've seen some really bad stuff, but I deal with it. I've even watched a lot of SciFi Channel movies so I know not to expect much - a usually promising movie that has no ending to speak of. Hope springs eternal, I guess - or the triumph of hope over experience, as they say. Unfortunately, this is a dog right from the beginning and I knew it, but like a moth to the flame, I kept thinking something, anything, interesting would happen. It doesn't. All of the actors give a decent performance - given the script, I don't know how they all kept straight faces. It has something to do with collagen-starved worm parasite creatures who are slowly taking over the human race, one body at a time. There's an evil plastic surgeon who collaborates with the enemy by giving them the outward appearance of humans...don't worry, he gets what's coming to him. The slug people themselves don't really know where they came from, they think they might have thumbed a ride on a meteor that landed on earth, but...somehow they know about the members of slug royalty among them - the slug princess has managed to breed with a human being who knows that she's the worm queen and loves her for her self...oh, must I go on? Please, I implore you, do not waste 2 hours of your life watching this...anything would be better...think of the worst, least enjoyable way you can spend two hours...it would be better than this.
I can't believe how awful this movie turned out to be. I feel magnanimous even referring to it as a "movie". The acting was flat, the editing was terrible and the plot leaves many major questions unanswered. The premise was OK, if unoriginal: a small group of aliens is living in the US and trying to slowly take over humanity. But it goes rapidly downhill from there. How could they convince a "human" to accept an alien as his wife in order to make they alien-human hybrid they require? They show a larval alien but never show what it does. They have a plastic surgeon that can produce perfect looking skin on an industrial scale. They throw in the obligatory huge alien monster with teeth. The ending was almost too painful to watch. I suppose that I'm mostly disappointed that Bruce Boxlietner would have anything to do with this. How could he say to the huge alien monster with teeth, "Get away from him you son of a b*tch" with a straight face? It's a long fall from his Babylon 5 days. Avoid this at all costs.
No scenario, bad actors (poor Melissa Gilbert)... Beurk Beurk Beurk ...
Give a such budget to make this... In Belgium, we make ten films which win all prices in Cannes with this.
Last time that I've seen a such NULL-Film was Hypercube. But scenario was better.
Is anyone knows if the director was a graduate in school-film or a cop ?
The better things in this film was the word "End".
Why authorize to sell this ? 1ç is to expensive.
I've pay ten dollars to buy this.
For me, pay for this was my BIG MISTAKE of millennium.
Too bad.
Next time I'll break my arm but buy this type of sh*t.

"They Are Among Us" is a chilling film about a boy who is more than what he seems. The film has some great creature effects and cool make-up, along with the fact that Michael Maples is hot hot hot and I would die to look like Hunter Tyler. My brother drooled like the creature in the film over her.
I think the actor who plays old chuck is great. He can change his personality so totally in just the turn of his read hat. Its amazing. I think its really sad he passed away. But that why movies are so cool. This way we can remember him forever. And I think this was his last movie
This movie is perfect for a rainy night when you just want to stay in and get scared. And its the kind of film where every time you want it you can notice more layers. Check it out, the performances are strong and the effects are cool.

Just finished watching its on the Sci-Fi Channel, and its much better than I expected from a TV movie. It was especially good to see Bruce Boxleitner and Nana Visitor working together as they are from my two favorite shows of all times, Babylon 5 and Star Trek:DS9 respectively. Allison Eastwood brings one word to mind, HOT! She can hold me at gunpoint anytime. I don't know who he is but that guy who played Uncle Bob really creeped me out, He kind of reminds me of this weirdo who walks around my campus handing out bibles. I also liked the "Guardian" alien, whoever did the special effects did a great job on that thing. Now I don't know his name but the actor who played the mechanic gave a decent performance as well. Overall I highly recommend it, it has an Invasion of the body snatchers, meets they live feel to it.
Writer/director Jeffrey Obrow is another relatively unknown filmmaker, but surely fans of '80s creature features will remember his slimy magnus opus "The Kindred" (1987). In recent years the man brought us "They Are Among Us". What if our parents were actually aliens, starting colonies on earth, converting human beings into their race to secretively walk among us? With a mouthful premise like this, the script could have used a talented supervisor as Obrow's story feels very inconsistent. But still a handful of interesting ideas stand out and the special effects are commendable. In an era where CGI had taken over, Obrow opted for real make-up effects and old fashioned creature designs. A muddled affair, but a curious watch nonetheless.

A very forgettable aliens-amongst-us movie. Average TV fodder, with a few semi-interesting scenes but only just enough, to keep you watching to the conclusion. In the end, quite a pointless, painful effort. Seek many better examples of this well trodden scenario.

Living in a small town, friends growing concerned over their friends' strange disappearances stumble across a plot from a group of alien insects that need human collagen to survive and race to stop them from unleashing their deadly plans.
This here was a somewhat decent killer alien film. One of those better points is the beginning in the film where there's a really nice mystery built-up, getting this off to a nice start from the beginning. Starting with the build-up from the mystery about the missing teenagers to the evidence of the parents being involved in the strange scam, this one has some pretty decent scenes from these parts as it's all done to make the rest of the segment feel that much creepier backed behind the other parts in the film setting it up nicely. That the aliens themselves, in the few scenes of them seen, are really nice and Along with the rare on- screen appearances of them leads to some really impressive scenes with them, which is most apparent in the finale which is really fun. They're appearance also works for this, being tall, lanky, scaly and dripping with claws and fangs, which together with their domestic look and demeanor make for a really great creature. There's also a couple of really well-done scenes which are really great, with the party scene at the house taking the simple concept it presents in theory and offering a superb twist down in the basement with the strobe-light in full effect offering up the sacrifice scene, and there's also all the good stuff from being in the underground caves. The last good thing about this one was the acceptably-sized body count, which had some okay deaths if nothing standout or new, but the quantity here takes precedence. These here are the film's good points, though there is a lot of damage caused by its flaws. The biggest issue is that the film has nearly way too much plot going on, as the admittedly-entertaining mystery throws way too many ideas into it that there's simply overkill at a point. There's the fact that the aliens are involved with the crop-circles and medallion as well as the effects of the collagen works well, since they are presented in logic, accurate and believable manners, and this would've been well and good except for the fact that there's the inclusion of the parasite angle. They were terrible enough, but rather than doing anything good about it, this one has the effects of the parasite go indirect opposition of the alien angle. It's almost as though it was thrown in merely to add a twist to the film and make the creatures feel threatening, but it all just feels tacked on instead. The big sequence where it's supposedly mushed together with the other elements but catastrophically fails, making the whole thing more complicating and headache-inducing than necessary. This also brings up the film's other real flaw, the slow pace at the beginning since it's got the different stories woven together, and nothing really happens until the end. These here really hurt the film.
Rated R: Graphic Language, Graphic Violence and a clothed sex scene.

My girl friend and I caught it on TV last night and we had a blast watching it. At first we thought it was sort of funny, but by the end we were both totally creeped out. It was great. I would watch it again in a second.
I just want to say the effects are great. None of this new flashy computer stuff that looks all funny and CG; this movie is all real guts and gore, old school style. Lots a good gross out factors.
There really is some great dry humor, too. I had no idea Allison Eastwood could be such a tough chic, but she is so funny with her dead-pan delivery. Her chemistry with that Harlen was great. I don't know about that Devin chic, she was the weakest link in the film but I'll forgive her.

Things are strange in a small American town, and a race of alien creatures are responsible. It's up to a group of friends and a female alien hunter to save they're town before it's too late! A decent made-for-TV sci-fi film in the vein of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Good cast including Alison Eastwood and genre vet George 'Buck' Flower. Director/screenwriter Jeffrey Obrow is no stranger to the genre, having also helmed 1987's tentacled-monster-on-the-loose film, "The Kindred". The creature effects are great and there are some nice gory scenes. The film is also surprisingly suspenseful at times, something I certainly didn't expect from a low-budget alien invasion flick in a year like 2004.
If you enjoy 50's-style alien invasion flicks, you'll want to see "They Are Among Us".
6.5/10.
