The Tale of Despereaux (full title: The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup, and a Spool of Thread) is a 2003 ch;ildren's fantasy book by American author Kate DiCamillo. The novel was adapted for the film by screenwriters Will McRobb, Gary Ross, and Chris Viscardi.
Those who have both seen and read the movie say that the film is radically different from the novel. The novel is dark, while the film lightens the tone to make it kid-friendly.
The lute music, called "The King's Lament" was written by William Ross for the film. It is however not included in the soundtrack album.
