Paratrooper Robert North landed, alone, in a small Sicilian village and with the aid of small band locals he they threw out the German occupiers. Years later, on holiday, he returns to the village to find it terrorised by local bandits.
Diana Carson and her father are looking to buy land in San Fillipo but find negotiating feuding families and the Mafia unwanted. Don Carlo tasks Robert North to take a package to Montebianco via mountainous bandit country.
Robert North is attempting to get to Palermo but finds himself trapped in Montebianco, as the locals attempt to get Bruno's brother Peppino from police custody. During a lull in the shooting, Diana Carson is buying land.
Robert using the alias Bruno inspires San Montebianco so they can stand up for themselves and create a union and march on San Fillipo. Instead Montebianco, San Fillipo and Mafia all join forces to support the union.
Lili comes the last person in San Fillipo to sign up to a union, supported by the Mafia. They now control the village and go on strike. Robert North attempts to use this togetherness to finally overthrow the Mafia from the village.
