Published in 2020, author Adam Cesare gave rise to a new slasher villain in the horror novel Clown in a Cornfield, and a horror movie adaptation is on the way.
Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) will direct the movie adaptation of the young adult slasher novel, which comes courtesy of Protagonist Pictures Limited and Sony Pictures.
Clown in a Cornfield has been rated “R” this week for…
“Bloody horror violence, language throughout and teen drinking.”
Writer Carter Blanchard adapted Cesare’s novel, which has now spawned two sequels. Clown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo was just released on August 20, 2024.
Here’s the official synopsis for Adam Cesare’s slasher novel…
“Quinn Maybrook and her father have moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs, to find a fresh start. But what they don’t know is that ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half.

While Summer Game Fest hasn’t been able to replace the E3-sized hole in our hearts quite yet, it has certainly become the biggest gaming event of the season. That also means that it is subject to the same series of leaks, rumors, and popular predictions that precede such events.
Truth be told, those going into this even expecting a monumental showcase of the biggest upcoming games will likely walk away from Sgf at least slightly disappointed. Still, here are some of the more notable rumblings about the event you should know about.
Don’t Expect Many Major New Game Announcements
To get the bad news out of the way, Summer Game Fest organizer Geoff Keighley has already made it clear that you shouldn’t expect too many major new announcements at Sgf. There will be some reveals, but the show will largely focus on “existing games that have new updates for fans.

Sam Lake, the Creative Director at Remedy, who plays Alex Casey, posted a picture from the sets of a motion capture for the Dlc. Remedy confirmed two DLCs coming to Alan Wake 2: Night Springs, which will be released first, and Lake House.
Lake mentioned the capture was completed for an upcoming Dlc, but what could be concerning was him mentioning that the wrap-up was done for the last time for him as an actor in the Alan Wake sequel. Several fans responded with excitement over the Dlc shoot being finalized, which brings the release date closer.

The day’s finally arrived for Alan Wake to enter The Fog and join Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight. Alan Wake joins the asymmetrical multiplayer title as the latest Survivor as part of Tome 18: Revision.
You know the story by now: best-selling author Alan Wake has a case of writer’s block. A trip to Bright Falls was supposed to clear his mind, but instead set off a nightmarish chain of events that led to his disappearance and imprisonment in the mysterious Dark Place. This time, while fighting to write his way to freedom and escape the Dark Place, he remembered a script he wrote for Night Springs about a horrifying place shrouded in fog. Those memories soon shaped reality as he was swallowed up into The Entity’s Ream and the world of Dead by Daylight, trading one Dark Place for another.

Eleanor Roosevelt was the first superstar First Lady of the 20th century and forever altered the role of the wife of the president of the United States. Over the decades, several actresses have earned kudos and awards for portraying her.
Greer Garson won the Golden Globe and reaped an Oscar nomination for the 1960 film “Sunrise at Campobello,” which chronicled Franklin Delano Roosevelt‘s battle with polio in 1921.
Jane Alexander received Emmy nominations for the acclaimed 1976 “Eleanor and Franklin,” based on Joseph P. Lash’s best-seller, and the 1977 sequel “Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years.” She won the Emmy for playing Sara, the mother of Fdr in 2005’s “Warm Springs.”
Speaking of “Warm Springs,” Cynthia Nixon received an Emmy nomination as Eleanor in the HBO movie that detailed Fdr’s (Kenneth Branagh) work with other polio patients.

The Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actress race is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive ones at the Emmys. That is due in part to Showtime’s “The First Lady,” which premieres on Sunday, April 17 at 9/8c and could inaugurate not one, not two, but three nominees: Gillian Anderson, Viola Davis and Michelle Pfeiffer.
An anthology series reframing American leadership through the lens of three first ladies, the first installment, directed by Emmy winner Susanne Bier (“The Night Manager”), stars Davis as Michelle Obama, Pfeiffer as Betty Ford and Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt, and delves into the women’s personal and political lives, exploring everything from their journeys to Washington, their family life and their world-changing political contributions, making their impact visible.
Of the three leading ladies, Davis is currently ranked the highest in our early combined Emmy odds, sitting in second place, just behind Margaret Qualley...

Cynthia Nixon has Emmy Award nominations in three different categories across three genres, and she could soon add another one for her work on HBO’s “The Gilded Age.” On Julian Fellowes’ lavish period drama, the two-time Emmy winner plays spinster Ada Brook, a sheltered and kindhearted woman of Old New York who relies on the charity of her delightfully rigid and widowed sister Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski). Though Ada initially seems naïve, Nixon mines the character for all of her emotional depths. Could her sixth Emmy nomination be in the offing?
One of the highlights of the first season are Ada’s frequent late-night, heart-to-heart conversations with her stubbornly defiant niece, Marian (Louisa Jacobson), whose arrival in New York from Pennsylvania kicks off the series. Marian frequently butts heads with Agnes over what she perceives as arbitrary and antiquated rules of society, but Ada helps soften Agnes’ edges,...

At the start of the sketch, Wilson arrives at the studio, only to be greeted by two unnamed studio execs played by Mikey Day and Punkie Johnson.
“There he is, Owen freaking Wilson. Bring it in!” Day’s character says. “Dude, by the way, Loki? You crushed it dude. I haven’t seen it yet, but I hear it’s amazing.”
Wilson, who plays Agent Mobius in Marvel’s Disney+ series Loki, notes that he was surprised when he first heard Cars 4 was in the works.
“Yeah, Pixar’s keeping it pretty quiet. I haven’t even seen a full script yet. They’re just sending over little chunks of dialogue, so the animators can start working,” Day’s character explains.

Last Year’s Winner: Uzo Aduba, “Mrs. America”
Still Eligible: No.
Hot Streak: The same actor hasn’t repeated in this category since Regina King took home back-to-back trophies for “American Crime” in 2015 and 2016 — which is the only time anyone has garnered consecutive wins in a category not exactly conducive to repetition — but nominees from streaming series have won the last three years running.
Fun Fact: As is the case surprisingly often with the Emmys, the actor with the most nominations in category history is not among the most awarded winners. Kathy Bates has seven nominations here
Notable Ineligible Series: “American Crime Story: Impeachment” (the season did not air in time to be eligible); “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” (submitted as a Drama Series)
At the bottom of this page are IndieWire Deputy TV Editor Ben Travers’ predictions for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or TV Movie.

Questions about Secrets of Sulphur Springs‘ Griffin, Harper and Savannah possibly being stuck in the 1930s — as well as the identity of old rocking chair man — are poised to be answered now that the Disney Channel has renewed the sci-fi tween drama for Season 2.
The time-traveling series, which premiered in January and quickly garnered comparisons to Netflix’s Stranger Things, will commence production on its sophomore run in June, the network says.

Kenneth Branagh has been tapped to direct the upcoming Bee Gees biopic for Paramount Pictures.
The movie will center on the life and times of the genre-spanning band, following the humble beginnings of brothers Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb into their journey to pop superstardom. Following their first No. 1 hit “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” the Bee Gees went on to write and perform hundreds of popular songs and worked on the soundtrack for the 1977 film “Saturday Night Fever.”
Ben Elton is writing the script for the still-untitled biopic.
The band was the subject of a recent HBO documentary titled “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” which was directed by Frank Marshall. Barry Gibb, the only surviving member of the band, was interviewed for the doc; Maurice died in 2003 and Robin in 2012.

The fantasy trope of Time Loops is all the rage again. Obviously, we all know Groundhog Day, which did it perfectly. Last year brought Palm Springs, which also did it terrifically well. Just a few weeks ago, The Map of Tiny Perfect Things also found a way to make the premise charming. Now, we have Boss Level, which decides to go in a whole other direction. Instead of being a comedy or a romantic comedy, it goes as far away from rom-com as possible. Instead, we have a violent action film, with admittedly comedic undertones. The result is something that stands out, that’s for sure. The movie is a mix of action and science fiction, with a little comedy thrown in for good measure. As we learn early on, former Special Forces agent Roy Pulver (Frank Grillo) is trapped in a time loop that will constantly repeat the day of his murder.

Fifteen years is a long time to wait between Golden Globe nominations. Not too many actresses have waited as long or longer, including Angela Lansbury, Helen Hunt, and Cynthia Nixon. Since 2006 Nixon has collected her second Emmy, a Grammy, and two Tonys, yet had not captured the attention of the HFPA. This year, however, the talented actress’s performance in the Netflix drama series “Ratched” has earned her a sixth shot at victory.

Prior to the start of production for Nat Geo’s “The Right Stuff” (currently streaming on Disney+), costume designer Hope Hanafin did more than her fair share of research. “I re-read [Tom Wolfe‘s] novel, which I’d read when it came out,” she explains, “and then I also read every single one of the astronauts’ biographies. It was a little bit like the gospels because the same events were all there, but told from different perspectives depending on who was doing the writing. So there was a very tall reading list.” Watch Gold Derby’s interview with Hanafin above, which aired as a part of our TV Costume Designers panel.

Updated after Saturday’s exclusive w/chart: Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back came in much better than the high $400K-$500K anticipated with a $611K 3-day, and $644K five-day gross.
In the current broken exhibition marketplace where 1,5K theaters are open, that’s a pretty potent weekend for a No 1 film, just under Ghostbusters‘ 5-day last weekend of $656K (but above that Ivan Reitman pic’s 3-day of $550K), Trolls World Tour‘s 4-day Memorial weekend of $656K, and Jurassic Park‘s June 19-21 weekend which banked $517,6K over three-days according to industry estimates.
Other takeaways in a drive-in dominated marketplace: IFC’s second weekend of the Emily Mortimer horror movie Relic clocked 4th place with $236K, -16% as it jumped 57 theaters to 126 this past weekend. Together with IFC’s Wretched gross through 11 weeks of $1.7M and Relic‘s running cume of $581K, IFC has banked...

"It's gonna be a beautiful wedding." Hulu has released an official trailer for the amazing time loop romantic comedy titled Palm Springs, the latest creation from the Lonely Island comedy crew. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and it was one of my favorites of the fest. It's So good. Palm Springs is about a lazy slacker, Andy Samberg, stuck in a time loop at his friend's wedding. He unwittingly gets another guest caught in his same loop, and they're forced to figure out whether romance is worth it. Co-starring Cristin Milioti, with J.K. Simmons, Meredith Hagner, Camila Mendes, Tyler Hoechlin, and Peter Gallagher. Ahhhh I love this film! Just like that quote in the trailer, I want to watch this over and over again. It's soo much fun, and it's a refreshing reinvention of romcoms and the time loop subgenre. Here's the first official trailer...

One of the most entertaining films I saw at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year was Palm Springs, the new time loop comedy from the Lonely Island Crew and directed by Max Barbakow. Following Andy Samberg, who is eternally stuck on the day of a friend’s wedding, the journey gets more complicated when maid of honor Sarah (Cristin Milioti) discovers his secret for herself. Coming from Neon and Hulu, the first trailer has now dropped ahead of the perfectly-timed July release.
In our review, Jake Kring-Schreifels said, “For most of its runtime, Palm Springs doesn’t get bogged down by extemporaneous storylines and marginal characters, traits that often plague small comedies like this. “Black Mirror’s” loss could be HBO’s gain. After three straight Best TV Movie Emmy victories for various episodes and not meeting the new 75-minute runtime requirement, “Black Mirror” is forced to compete in drama this year, paving the way for HBO to claim its record-extending 22 win in the category with “Bad Education.”
It may be hard to remember after the “Black Mirror’s” three-peat, which followed “Sherlock’s” victory in 2016 for its special episode “The Abominable Bride,” but the Best TV Movie category used to be HBO’s domain. The network started off with a bang in 1993, triumphing in a tie for its films “Barbarians at the Gate” and “Stalin,” and then ran the table for the rest of the decade.
