With critical and box office hits like 2022’s “Nope” and the new theatrical release “One of Them Days,” Keke Palmer is stepping into her star-era, and according to her, it’s been a long time coming.
In a recent interview with The Cut, Palmer reflected on her time as a child actress in films like “Akeelah and the Bee” and the Nickelodeon show “True Jackson, VP.” While many of her peers received a great deal of attention of similar work, Palmer always felt a bit ignored.
“I wasn’t necessarily in the same conversations as Victoria Justice or Selena Gomez or Miley Cyrus at that time,” she said. “It was very much ‘That’s the Black show’ or ‘That’s Keke Palmer, the Black girl on the network.’”
At the time, Palmer was only 15, so this was not only hard to understand, but to cope with emotionally.

Keke Palmer's new comedy One of Them Days has broken a Rotten Tomatoes record. The movie, which was produced by Insecure's Issa Rae, was directed by Lawrence Lamont (who previously collaborated with Rae on Max's Rap Sh!t) from the debut screenplay by Syreeta Singleton (who was the showrunner of Rap Sh!t). It co-stars Palmer and singer-songwriter Sza as best friends Dreux and Alyssa alongside an ensemble cast that includes Vanessa Bell Calloway, Maude Apatow, Katt Williams, Dewayne Perkins, Lil Rel Howery, and Janelle James.
The new Keke Palmer movie is the latest in a string of prominent projects for the actor, who kicked off her career in the mid 2000s and first rose to prominence when she starred opposite Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett in 2006's Akeelah and the Bee. Keke Palmer's new comedy movie debuts with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Since beginning her career as a child actress, Palmer has proven her versatility in both comedy and drama, appearing in Barbershop 2: Back in Business and The Wool Cap, both in 2004. However, her breakthrough came with a standout performance in the drama Akeelah and the Bee in 2006, and her career progressed with roles in Madea's Family Reunion, the Disney Channel original movie Jump In!, The Longshots, and Shrink.
However, Palmer rose to further prominence on television, starring as the titular character in the Nickelodeon sitcom True Jackson, VP from 2008 to 2011. She later transitioned into more mainstream horror on television, starring in Fox's satirical series Scream Queens and MTV's slasher series Scream. As of late, Palmer has started to garner critical acclaim for some of her recent film roles, including her performance as a stripper in 2019's Hustlers,...

Keke Palmer went from a child star to one of the greatest personalities in Hollywood, and she worked her way up there by hard work and trust in herself. Unlike many nepotism babies who receive projects just landing on their laps, Palmer had to audition for roles while supporting her family.

Gifted children (or prodigy) movies are driven by an intriguing paradox: what if they don’t realize their full potential if not adequately challenged? But what if the pursuit of intense challenges inculcates within them a fear of failure which can adversely impact their childhood and beyond? In a world where individuals can be casually stigmatized for being ‘different’, extraordinary intellect can’t always be a gift. Movies like A Beautiful Mind (2001), Shine (1996), Good Will Hunting (1997), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), The End of the Tour (2015), The Man Who Knew Infinity (2016) dealt with super-smart people burdened with mental or emotional problems. The films mentioned below grapple with such problems or quandary (of kids & teens), some with unflinching profundity and some hide its relevant messages beneath saccharine narrative layers.

Child actors have been known to have very tough lives outside of the lighthearted shows they’ve been on, and their transition to adulthood is usually paved with all kinds of mistakes made public because of their status.
Not everyone manages to make the peaceful transition from child actor to just actor, and we take a look at the status of some promising young talents from before and where they ended up today.

Ctam and Common Sense Media have partnered on StreamSafely Summer Camp,, an online destination at StreamSafely.com where parents and kids can find safe, family-friendly programming without the risks that come with pirated content. The site includes a collection of 46 movies curated by the nonprofit Common Sense Media available through June, July and August, along with a checklist for parents on safe streaming.
A Ctam study from October 2022 found that 38% of households with kids report accessing pirated content a few times a year, well above the mean for the US adult population overall (26%). Glenn Farr, the Oscar-winning editor known for his work on “The Right Stuff” and “Commando,” has died. He was 77.
Farr died on May 25 due to complications from a brain tumor, said his friend and fellow editor Janice Hampton.

It’s a breezy Monday afternoon in New York, and Keke Palmer — actor, director, singer, dancer, professional multitasker — is doing an interview while working on her latest gig: being a new mom. The wind whips through her hair as she pushes her baby down the street, Zooming from her phone. “I’m doing the mom thing,” she says in her signature lilt. “Baby is good, but it’s definitely a lot of pressure to be responsible for someone’s life. I’m tryna to make it, just like your ass is.

“Hey Auntie. We love you.”
Five simple words from presenters Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors, directed at Angela Bassett, who was nominated for the best supporting actress Oscar during Sunday night’s ceremony.
As the “Creed III” co-stars took the stage to present the award for best cinematography — two categories after the supporting actress prize went to “Everything Everywhere All At Once” star Jamie Lee Curtis — they took a moment to speak to Bassett, seated before them.
“Hey Auntie,” Jordan began, echoing his dialogue from 2018’s “Black Panther,” as his character Erik Killmonger slyly introduced himself to Bassett’s Queen Ramonda.
Majors picked up from there, adding: “We love you.”

Twenty-nine years ago, Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne were celebrating their Academy Award nominations for portraying Tina Turner and Ike Turner in 1993’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” This year, Bassett is nominated for the best supporting actress Oscar for her commanding performance as Queen Ramonda in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and her longtime collaborator couldn’t be more thrilled.
Calling in between interviews for “John Wick: Chapter 4,” Fishburne tells Variety, “It’s what’s in my heart that I’d like to talk about more than what’s on my mind. I’m just really, really happy about all of the accolades that have been coming Angela’s way for this performance.”
Fishburne sought out “Wakanda Forever” early in its theatrical run, interested to see what the Marvel sequel had in store.
“I was just blown away by a couple of things,” he says, recounting the experience.

With its list of new releases for March 2023, Amazon Prime Video might be rolling out its most impressive monthly lineup yet.
We know that sounds like something straight out of a press release but in this case, it’s actually true! Prime Video, bless it, has some excellent original titles like The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but its monthly release updates have often been less inspiring than its TV peers. That’s certainly not the case with March 2023 though.
Prime Video gets its streaming party started early by premiering the first three episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six on March 3. Angela Bassett, the guest on this episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, is widely regarded as one of the greatest actresses of her generation. She was nominated 29 years ago for the best actress Oscar for her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It, making her the only Black person nominated for the best actress Oscar in the 1990s, and she is nominated this year for the best supporting actress Oscar her portrayal of Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, making her only the fourth Black actress who has received more than one acting Oscar nomination, and the first person ever nominated for a performance in a Marvel movie.

March is still winter, no matter which animal you ask, which means it’s still completely acceptable to cancel all plans and curl up under a blanket in front of the TV. Prime Video’s movie library updates throughout the month, with most of its new additions on March 1 — including the “Rocky” saga, multiple “Carrie” adaptations, “12 Angry Men,” and more.
For Prime users who love books and TV, March means the highly-anticipated premiere of “Daisy Jones & the Six,” based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The eponymous Daisy (Riley Keough) and Billy Dunne’s band (Sam Claflin) make a mean match, starting with a hit single and leading to what seems like endless fame and glory. But where there is success there is peril, and both the band’s rise and an electric connection with Daisy threaten Billy’s marriage and everyone’s personal lives. James Ponsoldt,...

“That representation that I longed for when I was a young actor coming up? To be able to offer that, to be given the opportunity to offer that, is a dream come true,” Angela Bassett said during a career-retrospective interview on Thursday prior to receiving the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Montecito Award in recognition of her body of work and her 2022 Oscar-nominated turn as Queen Ramonda in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. “It’s a full-circle moment.”

While she is currently nominated for an Oscar for playing mother to a different kind of dynasty, one of the roles that made Angela Bassett a screen icon was matriarch Katherine Jackson in the 1992 miniseries “The Jacksons: An American Dream,” a job she said she was advised not to take.
During an appearance at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on February 9 to accept the 38th annual Montecito Award, the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” actress sat down for a career-spanning conversation with the festival’s executive director Roger Durling and revealed that she was in the middle of auditioning for the ABC TV event about the musical family when her agents said, “You know what, there’s a lot of allegations about Michael [Jackson] in the press, and we don’t think you should do this project.”
The situation was a blow to Bassett, as someone who had been a lifelong fan of the Jacksons.

The new year is upon us and Amazon Prime Video is kicking things off in grand fashion. Not only are they debuting the third season of their Tom Clancy adaptation “Jack Ryan,” they’re also debuting the final season of the ambitious, Al Pacino-starring actioner “Hunters.”
Initially debuting to the service in February of 2020, right as the pandemic started, the series’ first season follows a ragtag group of Nazi hunters in 1977 New York City. The so-called Hunters discover that hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials are living in the United States and are conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in America. The Nazi hunters, led by Pacino, will embark on a bloody quest to bring the Nazis to justice and thwart their genocidal plans. The series concluded in 2020 and has taken some time to get back to screens. Unfortunately, this second season will be a finale as well so fans...

Keke "stay with a job" Palmer is the epitome of excellence, and she has the 100-plus acting credits to prove it. The actor, singer, host, author, and all-around trendsetter has absolutely dominated the entertainment world ever since she was a kid, and honestly, I don't think I've seen anyone with a path as diverse, rewarding, and long-lasting as hers.
"I'm an incomparable talent. Baby, This, is Keke Palmer."
Most folks fell in love with Palmer when she wowed in 2006's "Akeelah and the Bee," but she's come a mighty long way since then. From snagging her lead role in Jordan Peele's "Nope" to manifesting her character on HBO's "Insecure," the multihyphenate continues to show us that she's never seen a glass ceiling in her whole life (word to Blue Ivy). And on July 24, Palmer shared a Twitter thread to shut down any comparisons that questioned her star power.
