Who can tell why this film was made? FORCE OF IMPACT (aka DEADLY SKIES) was apparently made for TV though it seems highly unlikely that it was ever screened. Not that the story itself is a problem: giant asteroid is sailing toward the earth with the potential of destroying the planet unless someone is smart enough to out guess the logistics. In this film the smart one is Rae Dawn Chong in a role she can sleep walk through. The government is not eager for her company to employ its 'better than government issue' strategies: Rob LaBelle and Michael Moriarty have a great time being mean. But it is Rea dawn Chong who remembers a terrific mind in the form of Antonio Sabato, Jr. who can save the planet....
And that is where the difference lies - Chong encounters Sabato and his lover Michael Boisvert en flagrante in a completely nude sex scene that is as sensual as any found in the movies. Nothing much is made of the reason for Sabato to be gay and that is good: he just happens to be a gay man in a healthy relationship, and the chemistry with Boisvert is definitely there. But that is about all we get, other than an opening scene when two beautiful young au naturel women make it in a swimming pool while a mini-asteroid collides in the water.
So it is another routine space age flick, but add to the salad the eye candy offered, and it is almost worth sitting through the movie! Pretty people help keep this one afloat.

I must have seen the tame version of this film under the title Force of Impact. No gay sex, not that it would have enhanced the film for me. Not my cup of tea. I didn't have any problem with the acting, it was good from seasoned professionals. The dialog seemed average. The storyline was average. The camera work was good. But the editing left way too many dramatic pauses and too much dead air. It was not unusual for the dialog to end and then the film just hangs there while the actor stares at something or shuffles some papers. Not much in the special effects area. There was nothing really bad nor good about the film. It was just kind of there as a pay day for the people involved.
Dr. Madison Taylor (Rae Dawn Chong) at Near Earth Asteroid Tracking Society has discovered a hidden asteroid on course to destroy the world in a day's time. General Dutton (Michael Moriarty) at the US government's Project Safe Skies dismisses her. Her only hope is former air force Major Richard Donovan (Antonio Sabato Jr.) and an asteroid-destroying laser which might be no more than a government boondoggle.
This is Deep Impact without the explosive CGI or the reasonable characters. I like the idea of a government boondoggle and secret weapon. Everything else is less compelling and less well-written. The miniature budget does limit the production. I got bored with Chong and Sabato in a long back and forth. This is cheap TV with one interesting idea among a sea of weak writing and production.

The high point --perhaps the only point-- of this TV flick is the leisurely and soft-core lovemaking scene between Antonio Sabato and Michael Boisvert and their subsequent beefcake shots. (Sabato plays a similar scene in "Testosterone"; maybe he's carving out a little niche for himself!) As for the rest...it's the usual anti-military paranoia combined with pacifist self-righteousness of too many movies like this. I checked and found that the writer is Canadian, so that explains that! Rae Dawn Chong's character is beyond annoying. The Evil General is such a tired cartoon cliché. The pacing is bizarre. It's like an octopus on land. I got quickly to the point where I didn't really care if the "Deadly Skies" turned out to be deadly or not...

Worst film I've seen since the Wickerman remake(Nicolas Cage, what are you doing!!). If you haven't got the budget to make a disaster movie, don't bother. Acting was awful, directing was terrible, didn't even feel like a disaster movie! Sorry you film makers, you need to try much better! If you want to make a disaster movie, generally it will be cheesy unless the world blows up as an outcome but modern day movies need to try a lot harder to get my vote. My favourite movies are Wickerman(original), Dead Man Shoes, Lord of the Rings(I've let some of the poor effects go as it's awesome),Of Mice and Men, Shawshank Redemtion and Batman Begins. I've recently learnt that I'm pretty hard to please with films but I'm sorry but this film wasn't my thing! Hope someone else out there enjoys it

This is a B movie. I like B movies. My review will reflect that attitude.
I've read that this movie has been released with both gay scenes and without them. The version I saw had no gay scenes so I can't comment on them.
I enjoyed the movie. The actors were mostly believable.
It contains the usual handsome, brave, smart leading man and an appealing female costar. Although I think Rae Dawn Chong should have been younger but you work with what you're given. Most of the supporting actors do a fine job. Especially the General, Michael Moriarty.
I give this movie an enthusiastic thumbs up and I recommend it to all fans of the B movie genre.

This is by far the most retarded movie I have ever seen.
I was watching it on TV just now and I
didn't know whether to laugh at it's stupidity
or change the channel ...finally about one hour into the movie I just couldn't take it any more
.....it is idiotic in every respect....poor acting, poor script, poor story,
I cannot find anything positive about it.
I should mention that I only made my IMDb account after seeing this movie,it is just unbelievably lame.
What more can you say about such a movie

I remember watching many movies simply because a certain actor, well, actress, was in the movie. Although I have moved away from that line of thinking some, I did watch this because of Rae Dawn Chong. To me she has always been and still is a living doll and so exotic. True, this is a low budget movie with some faults, but the story is not so bad, and with Rae Dawn on the screen I am a happy viewer.

This film has been released in three different countries under three different titles, and each version is slight different. In the United Kingdom, the film was released on DVD with this title,Ultimate Limit. In Canada this film was released on DVD with this title,Force of impact. In the US this film was released under the title,Deadly skies. The US version has the main hero portray as a gay man. The UK and Canadian version have these scenes edited, yet the UK version is slightly different than the Canadian version. This film, made for cable TV was not that bad. I have seen both the UK and Canadian versions. I have not seen the US version.
I see a lot of comments about the different versions of this movie, but nobody seems to mention the thing that most concerned me about this tolerable disaster film (nearly all these stories about giant asteroids menacing the earth have the same plot, more or less, but I tuned in anyway to see Rae Dawn Chong as the heroic scientist). Watching Michael Moriarty in his role as the general was distracting because he seemed to be having problems playing his part that had nothing to do with the script or the direction. He was walking with a stick, and in the dialogue scenes he seemed to stare straight ahead and deliver his lines with little or no animation. Was he ill? Had he had a stroke?
You knew this film was in trouble when the not-so-creative writers could not figure out a suitable title for this turkey, much less an interesting script. Both Rae Dawn Chong and Michael Moriarty (normally good actors) are caught in this mundane tale and play silly roles. Chong at least has an intelligent role, Moriarty is totally miscast as a knucklehead general, in charge of promoting chaos in the Pentagon.
There are several B actors who were never seen again (and for good reason) who had additional roles in this film. A giant astiroid is coming toward earth (OH NO! THIS HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE!). Actually, it has been done several times before and with much better believability and production values. The best shot in this film was the sunset over the Mohave Desert; after that shot, it was all downhill for the cinematography. Don't waste your time on this turkey.

The 1 star rating is for this edited version of the original movie. If you want to see the original movie then watch the Deadly Skies version which I would give 8 stars. It is a shame in this day and time someone felt the need to edited out the gay scenes in the movie. The scenes were limited but added additional information to the relationship of two of the main characters. I enjoyed the movie but was very disappointed that it had been edited. The streaming service i used misled me in that the movie was listed under its original title. Anyway the movie is entertaining even though it is not an award winning movie. I will most likely watch the movie again. However, I will make sure it is on an LGBT streaming service to see the original version.
Being a fan of Antonio I decided to purchase this DVD when it was released on DVD in the UK mid January 2006. The title used here is ULTIMATE LIMIT and gone are all the references to Antonio's character being gay. There is a glance between him and his co-worker that may have meant more in the original screening but that is now all. The movie was around 85 minutes long so I assume 5 minutes have been edited out. The movie ends with Antonion's supposedly single male character being joined at home by the female lead character to take their "working kiss" a little further. If this movie has a release under the original title with the original scenes, I may be tempted to buy again.

On the surface, this strikes me as an oddly constructed movie. It's a stock sci-fi thriller whose hero and his friend/sidekick happen to be lovers. This fact is brought out in two bedroom scenes and is mentioned very briefly in a couple of other lines of dialog. But other than these brief, isolated moments it is never mentioned, never referred to, and it has absolutely no bearing whatever on the story as our hero battles to save the world from destruction. A standard subplot in this kind of action film is a romantic triangle of some sort, but these two lovers are in league with an extremely attractive computer jock and they never even notice him. Someday there may come a time when an action hero can be gay just because he is and it would not have any impact on the story, but we're not there yet. I'd bet good money that this movie was originally made as a standard thriller, that none of the cable services bought it, and that turning the hero gay was an afterthought accomplished by an additional day or two of shooting new footage in order to open up the gay cable network market. Whether or not the hero is in love with his buddy, the film is a decent low-budget thriller. You can see worse on the Sci-Fi Network any night of the week. Michael Moriarity is clearly having great fun as the scenery-chewing military villain and the gay moments give the producers a chance to get Antonio Sabato naked, which is never a bad thing. In short, it's definitely an enjoyable movie - just don't expect any dramatic revelations about gay action heroes.
