William Friedkin was an inherently well-informed filmmaker. He started out in television at age 18, directing live news reports and documentaries for WGN-tv in Chicago. He knew how to get to the bottom of any story, best frame the narrative to capture attention, and inform the viewer.
He brought that sense of assured knowledge to movies. There is never any doubt about the veracity of The French Connection (1971). The Exorcist (1973), meanwhile, invites the audience to medical diagnoses and a realistic portrayal of demonic possession. It is the emphasis on the medical that makes the demonic seem plausible. Similarly, To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) is an authentic movie about counterfeiting, and one which deserves to be as celebrated as his early ‘70s masterpieces.

BAFTA-winning “The Last King of Scotland” writer Jeremy Brock will adapt independent studio Wiip and India’s Roy Kapur Films’ series based on the book “The Anarchy: The Relentless Rise of the East India Company” by author and historian William Dalrymple.
“The Anarchy” will be mounted as an international co-production between Wiip and Roy Kapur Films to be produced across the U.S., U.K. and India. The book tells the story of how one of the world’s most magnificent empires, the Mughal empire, disintegrated and came to be replaced by the British East India Company – a dangerously unregulated private company based thousands of miles away in a small London office just five windows wide.
The bestselling historical book won accolades as President Barack Obama’s top 10 recommended books and one of The Wall Street Journal’s Best Books of the Year when it was published in 2019.

It can be hard at times to separate Rupert Grint from his "Harry Potter" roots. Even now, over a decade after the last film in the franchise was released, Grint's name is still synonymous with Ron Weasley, the clumsy boy wizard with a heart of gold. But Grint's acting career definitely has roots outside of Hogwarts. Over the years, he's appeared in various other films including Jeremy Brock's "Driving Lessons," Jonathan Lynn's "Wild Target," and 2009's "Cherrybomb" directed by Lisa Barros D'Sa and Glenn Leyburn.
"Cherrybomb" is a British drama about two teenagers who both fall for the same girl. In increasingly more serious attempts at getting her attention, they eventually find themselves in over their heads and headed for disaster. Grint plays one of the teens, Malachy McKinney, an employee at a local movie theater. In the film, Malachy is the exact opposite of Ron Weasley, eager...

For her fifth feature, If You Don’t, I Will, director Sophie Fillieres reunites with star Emmanuelle Devos to document the wistful disintegration of a relationship that probably should have ended years prior. Premiering at the 2014 Berlin Film Festival, the title received a very limited theatrical engagement in New York at the end of the year, which is a pity considering the attraction of its two lead performers. At times droll in its routine procedure of two beings unwisely torturing one another for the sake of familiarity, Fillieres dips the film into more emotionally evasive territories in its second half that maintains a dark, comedic edge even as it grapples with examining the self-made traps people back themselves into.

Harry Potter’s best friend, Ron Weasley, could use a little magical assistance these days because Rupert Grint is having a rough time in the new trailer for Into the White.
Unfortunately (in a sense) for the three leads in the Harry Potter franchise, the movie series about the boy who lived catapulted Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint into the spotlight in a major way during their childhood years, making a large part of society forever see them as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.
Now that the Potter storyline has wrapped up, the three stars have set off to see if there’s a career beyond Hogwarts. Radcliffe discovered the easiest way to distance himself from the boy with the lightning-shaped scar was to get on a Broadway stage and take his clothes off, and roles in The Woman in Black and the upcoming Horns seems...

As the Harry Potter franchise drew to a close, its three young stars were striving to pave a way out of being forever typecast as Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Daniel Radcliffe did this by taking daring roles on Broadway, showing his singing chops and, well, more. Then he proved to be a box office draw with 2012's The Woman in Black. For her part, Emma Watson blossomed into a fashion icon and branched out into period dramas with My Week With Marilyn and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. But playing the gawky goofball of the Harry Potter heroes has made things harder for Rupert Grint. Despite headlining several features throughout Harry Potter's run.including Thunderpants, Driving Lessons and Cherrybomb. Grint hasn't gained any traction as an ingendude in the States. But all is not lost, since Grint has two releases due to hit the U.S. this year. Preceding...

Modern Family has been a smash hit since the first episode, and it hasn’t slowed down at all. The third season (and fourth) are just as funny, and the show is still delivering on its characters’ best points.
The Complete Third Season Blu-Ray release is not only a great collection just for the episodes you get (and the show is a Blu-Ray must), but the bonuses are great, and that isn’t always something you can say about television releases.
As third season started rolling, I know a lot of people were talking about the show’s apparent trend toward moving away from home base. Though the episodes, I thought, were especially good, and were perhaps even instant classics, trips to Wyoming and Disneyland had some people wondering if we weren’t running out of enough solid ideas for the progression of the characters. As it has been for several years now, Adam Green (Hatchet, Frozen) and his friends have once again teamed-up and produced a short film to kick off the month of Halloween. Past films have been able to combine Green’s love of comedy and horror with nothing short of unique results; one of my favorites has to be 2009′s hilarious faux infomercial for the “Jack Chop.” This year’s treat is a short starring Joel David Moore and Kane Hodder entitled “Driving Lessons.” If you haven’t been able to figure out from the title of this article, Green shines a light on a notorious and glaring flaw in what many consider to be a horror classic. The joking is obviously all in good fun and I’ll be damned if you don’t have fun watching this as well. Joel David Moore’s nervous instructor with a bizarre childhood...

Chicago – In the days since this year’s Emmys, I’ve been probably asked this question more than any other — “Do you think Modern Family is the best comedy on TV?” The answer is an undeniable no. But I usually add the disclaimer that this doesn’t mean it’s not a good show. It may not have been the best choice for the 2011-12 season (that would be “Louie,” “Girls,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Veep,” or “Community”) but it also wasn’t the worst. What often happens is that shows that win Emmys three years in a row become so un-hip in certain circles that the backlash exaggerates their negative qualities. There is still some very funny material on the third season release of “Modern Family” and the cast is undeniably one of the best on TV.

Though acting turns outside of the Harry Potter franchise from Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) in films like Driving Lessons, Cherrybomb and Wild Target haven't exactly been as easily recognized as co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson in The Woman in Black and My Week with Marilyn respectively, that doesn't mean the red-haired Brit is giving up on acting just yet. In fact, Variety has word that Grint has locked down two new fairly high profile projects with the Shia Labeouf led thriller The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman and the underground music scene drama Cbgb, based on the NYC club of the same name. Grint has yet to prove himself as a viable star outside of Harry Potter, but I think he has some real talent in him. He might be more suited for comedy, but it sounds like these two roles are a little more serious. In The Necessary...

5.5 "Signal 30"
This episode focused on Pete, one of the show's least likeable characters who has, over the course of five years, grown more sympathetic and even more admirable while not really becoming more likeable per se. It's a nifty balancing act that actor Vincent Kartheiser performs tremendously well. Other than fame and fortune, this has been a thankless character for him as his fellow cast members have reaped abundant nominations (if strangely no wins) and increased big screen traction. It's a nifty balancing act that actor Vincent Kartheiser performs tremendously well. Other than fame and fortune, this has been a thankless character for him as his fellow cast members have reaped abundant nominations (if strangely no wins) and increased big screen traction. If they have any...

For the last decade, Ron Weasley has battled some of the most dangerous and deadly magic menaces the movie world has to offer, from evil wizards to soul-sucking Dementors to giant forest spiders. But those dangers pale in comparison to his latest foe: Nazis.
No, this isn't some madcap fanfic or the untold story of Dumbledore's battle against Grindlewald (we wish) -- it's the first trailer for Rupert Grint's new World War II drama "Into the White." Looks like someone has officially graduated from Hogwarts.
Not that there was ever really any question about Grint's ability to put the iconic role of Ron Weasley behind him; after all, he's been making indie films like "Driving Lessons," "Cherrybomb" and "Wild Target" for years in an effort to expand his acting horizons. And they don't get much more expansive than "Into the White," which tells the story of a group of...

Of the trio of young actors who've led the cast of the multi-billion pound Harry Potter franchise over the past 10 years, Rupert Grint seems to have been least affected by the avalanche of attention.
Daniel Radcliffe recently admitted he'd crumbled under the pressures of fame and become dependent on alcohol, while Emma Watson admits she fights hard to maintain her autonomy in the face of an A-list lifestyle.
Perhaps this is why, while Radcliffe is currently singing and dancing up a storm on Broadway in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying and Watson (whose shorn locks show she's happily rid of Hermione Granger) is plotting to continue her education at Oxford this autumn, Grint appears less eager to move on.
Taking a breath, he admits he's devastated the whole experience has come to an end.

The countdown to the eighth and final "Harry Potter" reaches epic proportions this week with the April 15 DVD and Blu-ray release of "Deathly Hallows Part I." Friday's release date marks exactly three months before the finale hits theaters.
While many fans may be mourning the end of the film series, fans of the lead actors have reason to celebrate. The Trio (and Draco) all have signed on to several films recently, a couple of which come out later this year. They're already among the richest young actors in the world, but Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson don't have plans to fade into obscurity.
Take a look at what the Potter kids have in store after the Battle of Hogwarts ends.

All things considered, Daniel Radcliffe could be doing way worse sh*t. Just look at Rupert Grint, his Harry Potter sidekick; Ron hasn't been doing so hot since he's aged out of the "adorable redhead child star" category, making us particularly uncomfy when he totally "did it" with old lady Julie Walters in Driving Lessons, and- let's be honest- Emma Watson's mostly just a model.

It's award season. The Razzies are preparing to announce their "winners" (or is it losers?) of the year when it comes to Worst Movies of the Year and they have a special category for Worst Movies of the Decade. I'm reminded of the ickiest of the icks when it comes to film's marketed to kids (children through teens). These are the three worst movies marketed to kids of the decade.
Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector
I'm sure you're familiar with the Blue Collar comedian for his girth and low-brow humor. So it should of been no surprise when he finally got his own movie and yeah, it was revolting. The story revolved around Larry's character being a city health inspector trying to find the cause of a string of nasty outbreaks in fancy restaurants. The first five minutes can sum up what you're in for: peeing in the shower,...

You may remember some time ago a photoshoot that involved several pictures of Rupert Grint near a truck that were done to promote "Driving Lessons". However these pictures were on the small side and heavily tagged. Today Ice Cream Man can exclusively bring you high quality, untagged versions of these pictures for you! You can view the six gorgeous images here in our galleries. In other exciting news, Warner Bros. has officially released the date and details of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" DVD and Blu-Ray. The release date for the Us will be April 15th and the release date for the UK will be April 11th. Unfortunately the feature of Rupert Grint the regular guy seems to have been just a rumor as the details do not state this to be true. However, in its place? Rupert, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson having fun running through the forest competition.

Once upon a time (in 2001, to be exact), there was an 11-year-old boy with a lightening bolt scar who was unaware of his extraordinary powers. And I’m not just talking his soon-to-be-discovered magical prowess, but also his jaw-dropping power to inspire millions of fans young and old to excitedly storm their local theaters to catch the first showing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. (The experience of seeing the film for the first time was priceless for many, and it certainly paid off for Warner Bros.: The studio bagged a record-breaking $33.3 million during the first day,...

Martin Scorsese wants "Harry Potter" star Rupert Grint to play a gangster in one of his movies, insisting he has the potential to be as successful as Leonardo DiCaprio. The 21-year-old actor, who has played Ron Weasley in all of the wizard films, recently wrapped up shooting the last installment of the franchise.
He has already started to shake off the longrunning character by appearing in small independent films including "Driving Lessons" and "Cherrybomb". Scorsese has advised Grint to take on a variety of villainous characters to show fans he won't be typecast, in the same way that DiCaprio - who has starred in several of the director's movies - managed to turn his back on playing romantic roles at the start of his career.
The legendary movie-maker says, "I thought he (Grint) was a great actor in the Harry Potter movies. In a lot of scenes, the boy stole the show.

He has to do something really out of his comfort zone in the next few years - play a gangster, play a dirty cop, play a kid with learning difficulties. I would be interested in working with him. I would have no issues in casting him as a gangster, he is a very talented young man.
"When Leo was in Titanic and Romeo And Juliet, nobody saw him becoming a bad a** in movies like The Departed. But he has become one of the greatest actors of all time. The very same could be true of Rupert."...

Rupert Grint enjoys the "pressure" of working on low-budget films after starring in the "Harry Potter" franchise - because every shot "means a lot more". The British actor made his name playing Ron Weasley in the blockbuster wizard movies, but has branched out with roles in smaller films, including "Driving Lessons" and "Cherrybomb".
Grint admits the independent movie experience is completely different to his Potter days - but he enjoys the intensity of the shoots. He tells Reuters, "I'm kind of just looking ahead now because Potter is coming to an end and it's just trying to keep going really."
"A much smaller budget sort of changes the whole kind of experience because every shot means a lot more. You don't have the benefit of having a hundred takes, you have to get it right quite a lot sooner. So yeah, I quite enjoy that pressure."...

Get out your time-turners, folks, because we’ve reached the end of an era. On Saturday, filming of the Harry Potter series came to a close. Warwick Davis, who plays Professor Flitwick, tweeted out the news: “Today is officially the last day of principal photography on ‘Harry Potter’ – ever. I feel honoured to be here as the director shouts cut for the very last time. Farewell Harry & Hogwarts, it’s been magic!”
It must have been a sad day for all the actors involved, especially the trio of young stars who have charmed audiences around the world since Harry Potter...

Welcome to Trailer Watch, a new feature for the weekend, where we compile a bunch of indie and not so big name trailers for some fantastic movies. Originally this was tried out here on FusedFilm as a video series called The Tease, but that faded due to the lack scheduling and timing making this version much better to do. However this may reevolve into that series.
Many may not realize that movie trailers have now become extremely popular on the Internet. Of some 10-billion videos watched online annually, movie trailers rank #3, after news and user-created video (which sometimes features fan made trailers). So having a feature like this just makes sense.
Legacy - Teaser # 1
First up we have a trailer for Legacy, starring Idris Elba, who a lot more people will get to know soon in the upcoming film The Losers. Although The Wire fans already know him. The trailer...

In spite of all its controversy and its Emmy and Toronto Film Festival awards, the faux documentary Death of a President was not worth all the hype it received four years ago. I won't say it was terrible, because I've come around to respect some of the positive things said about its purpose, but I certainly did not enjoy watching the film, which depicted the hypothetical assassination of George W. Bush using real footage of the former U.S. president.
However, I'm willing to give director Gabriel Range another shot, especially now that I've learned his next film comes from a script by one of the writers of The Last King of Scotland, Jeremy Brock. Though Peter Morgan may have been the better screenwriter involved in that adaptation, Brock's involvement with other decent British films, such as Charlotte Gray and Driving Lessons, which he also directed, are indicative of his talent.

Our friends with the Movie-Fanatic website have always been very fond of Rupert Grint and supportive of his career, thus it is no surprise to see Rupert featured on their list of Ten Most Underrated Young Actors. Here's what Jed Medina with tMF had to say: "Playing one of the main characters in the Harry Potter series gave Rupert Grint the kind of world-wide recognition reserved to a chosen few. He is definitely not your usual boy-next-door young star who prefers to play traditional roles given to teens in Hollywood. [...] His goal to polish his craft by exploring other characters beside Ron Weasley appears to be making headways. He made Driving Lessons in 2006 and this year - two feature films Cherrybomb and Wild Target - will further allow the young actor to prove he has what it takes to suceed in the movie business." Read the entire entry here, and please leave your comments!

Cinema is filled with multi-talented young actors who bring to life all types of characters. Sometimes, a role is given to the wrong guy - just because he has the looks (pin-up pretty, looks awesome wearing trunks) and the connection (a powerful talent agent at his side). But when the role is given to the right guy - moviegoers get to witness something unique, memorable and powerful, even magical. Anyway, even the 'right guy' needs an agent, of course...
