Kathleen Quinlan and Michelle Hurd are joining Jen Lilley in the cast of “Holiday Hearts,” an upcoming holiday film set to release just in time for Christmas.

Quinlan is an Oscar-nominated actor known for her work in “Apollo 13,” “The Doors,” “How to Get Away With Murder” and “Prison Break,” while Hurd has starred in “Blindspot,” “Star Trek: Picard” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

“Holiday Hearts” is directed by Ross Kagan Marks and marks Lilley’s first holiday-themed film of the year. “Everything old is new again” surely applies to TV these days. It’s like you can’t flip a channel or put on a streamer without a new take on an old show, some of which went off the air not that long ago. Paramount+ just canceled the revival of Fraiser and some old cable shows like White Collar may get the sequel treatment soon.

For network shows, it looks like reboots won’t be dying anytime soon. Networks rely on name recognition for a TV show and often help if the original actors or creators take part in it. Some shows may seem to not need a reboot, while others are shows fans would love to see coming back.

Prison dramas are strange. It’s certainly not my go-to genre when it comes to recommending films or TV shows, and it is definitely not something I gravitate to in my free time. I watched Starred Up for Jack O’Connell, Chopper for Eric Bana, Bronson for Tom Hardy, A Prayer Before Dawn for Joe Cole, Gridiron Gang for Dwayne Johnson, The Longest Yard for Adam Sandler, and Brawl in Cell Block 99 for Vince Vaughn. Also, Chicken Run is undoubtedly up there with the greats. Now, when it comes to TV shows, I don’t show the same kind of zeal.

Variety has learned from sources that a sequel series to the beloved show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is nearing a pilot order at Hulu.

Sources say that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to once again play the iconic title character in the untitled project, although it would focus on a new Slayer and Gellar would appear in a recurring role rather than leading the series.

Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce. Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar would also executive produce along with Gail Berman. Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui will executive produce via Suite B, while Dolly Parton will executive produce via Sandollar. 20th Television and Searchlight Television will produce. Berman, the Kuzuis, and Parton were all executive producers on the original “Buffy” series.

Over five wild seasons, the show became known for its jaw-dropping twists, keeping us all on the edge of our seats. Though it wrapped up in 2009 (with a TV movie and a short-lived spinoff), Prison Break came back for a fifth season in 2017, which didn’t hit the mark. Prison Break's success is partly due to one of its most loved and hated characters, but I can't forgive the show for repeatedly trying to ruin him after season 2. Prison Break took the relatively common theme of an escape from prison and treated it in an entirely new way, with the key to the escape being hidden in messages tattooed on Michael Scofield. Over Prison Break's four seasons, movie, and following reboot, the show became drastically different, with an antagonist comprised of a group of largely interchangeable people rather than one or two terrifying characters.

Prison Break's biggest strength was its well-written characters and the unexpected journeys that they often took. Even the most villainous were generally people that audiences loved to hate, and waiting to see them get their comeuppance was one of the best parts of Prison Break.

Prison Break introduced audiences to some of the best characters in a TV drama. Though the show had a high kill count, some of its best and most interesting characters are still alive, which leaves the door open for a cameo in the upcoming reboot. It has been confirmed that Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will not be reprising their roles as Michael and Lincoln, but this does not mean that other members of the Fox River Eight could not appear. So far, the Prison Break reboot's plot has been kept under wraps, so there is potential for familiar faces.

Prison Break might have featured some unforgettable villains among the prisoners in the show, but the main one was not a single person. Throughout the first two seasons of Prison Break, most of the plot was split between the surviving members of the Fox River Eight, who escaped Fox River Penitentiary with Michael and Lincoln. As the show progressed with more Prison Break seasons and a movie, it seemed to lose its edge, becoming more of a procedural drama that brought its main villain into the spotlight. However, this antagonist was more complex than any of the other Prison Break characters.

Most of the dangers faced by the main Prison Break characters came in the form of dangerous inmates, like the scene-stealing Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell, or sadistic and corrupt guards, like Brad Bellick. This allowed the show to explore different angles and expand on the characters' backstories, which were often intriguing.

1 character from Prison Break proves that continuing the show past season 1 was the right decision, despite arguments that it should have wrapped up. The intense show never quite captured the heights of its debut season, and that led many fans to theorize that it would have been better as a miniseries, instead of dragging the story out for way too long. This would have allowed Prison Break to preserve a pristine legacy, that only includes quality storytelling. However, some of Prison Break’s best episodes were actually from its second season, which is frequently overlooked.

Although Prison Break’s legacy may have soured following the poor reception of its final few seasons, there’s still some great storytelling in season 2 that doesn’t deserve to be forgotten about. It may be easy (and fair) to claim that it peaked too early, but those first episodes are not the only ones worth watching.

Francis J. Conway of West Los Angeles, a longtime production manager who worked on shows like Baywatch and Criminal Minds, died December 17 of natural causes at UCLA Medical Center. He was 70.

Born in Westwood, Conway graduated from Uc Santa Cruz where he studied film. His passion, his brother recalls, was working in the industry; he remembers Conway driving his Volkswagen bus to “get things for anybody who wanted help. He loved it and felt like it was a blessing to be working in that field.”

Prison Break was originally canceled in 2009 after four seasons, but the incredible popularity of the show spawned a mobile-exclusive spinoff series, video games, and even a TV movie called The Final Break. Additionally, Prison Break was brought back for a fifth season in 2017, but it was largely written off as a mistake because of its poor execution.

Ahead of the 25th anniversary of the fan-praised sitcom, Malcolm in the Middle is getting a revival. Disney+ will release a limited, four-episode run with cast members Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek reprising their roles as Malcolm’s parents Hal and Lois respectively, Variety reported Friday. Malcolm in the Middle creator Linwood Boomer returns as a writer on the comedy’s renewal, with Ken Kwapis directing the four-episode series.
