"Prison Break" was one of the most popular shows of the early 00s, and recently got a second life thanks to streaming. It's a show that — like "24" and "Lost" — helped popularize serialized narratives in network TV. Instead of standalone episodes that made it easy for casual viewers to dip in and out, "Prison Break" told an ongoing story where every episode directly built up to the next one. This forced viewers to keep tuning in every single week expecting actual resolutions to the story.
The show follows two brothers, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) and Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), whose lives are upended after Lincoln is wrongfully accused of murdering the vice president's brother. When Lincoln is quickly sentenced to death and incarcerated in a high security prison, Michael takes it upon himself to commit armed robbery to get sentenced to the same prison as his brother. It's not just because he misses him,...

Kathleen Quinlan and Michelle Hurd are joining Jen Lilley in the cast of “Holiday Hearts,” an upcoming holiday film set to release just in time for Christmas.
Quinlan is an Oscar-nominated actor known for her work in “Apollo 13,” “The Doors,” “How to Get Away With Murder” and “Prison Break,” while Hurd has starred in “Blindspot,” “Star Trek: Picard” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
“Holiday Hearts” is directed by Ross Kagan Marks and marks Lilley’s first holiday-themed film of the year. The story is based on Dana Volney’s novella, “A Heart for the Holidays,” which follows Silver Morgenstern (Lilley), a heart surgeon who returns to her hometown and meets a man with terminal illness at a local hospital. Quinlan will play Silver’s tough mother, and Hurd is set to play a veteran surgeon who goes toe-to-toe with Silver at work.

Reboots are all the rage now, and here’s a quick rundown of every network show that is getting the treatment!
“Everything old is new again” surely applies to TV these days. It’s like you can’t flip a channel or put on a streamer without a new take on an old show, some of which went off the air not that long ago. Paramount+ just canceled the revival of Fraiser and some old cable shows like White Collar may get the sequel treatment soon.
For network shows, it looks like reboots won’t be dying anytime soon. Networks rely on name recognition for a TV show and often help if the original actors or creators take part in it. Some shows may seem to not need a reboot, while others are shows fans would love to see coming back.

Prison dramas are strange. It’s certainly not my go-to genre when it comes to recommending films or TV shows, and it is definitely not something I gravitate to in my free time. But if I come across one by chance, and if it’s even half-decent, I can assure you that I’ll stick with it all the way to the end. That’s how I came across masterpieces like The Great Escape, Escape from Alcatraz, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Hurricane. I watched Starred Up for Jack O’Connell, Chopper for Eric Bana, Bronson for Tom Hardy, A Prayer Before Dawn for Joe Cole, Gridiron Gang for Dwayne Johnson, The Longest Yard for Adam Sandler, and Brawl in Cell Block 99 for Vince Vaughn. Also, Chicken Run is undoubtedly up there with the greats. Now, when it comes to TV shows, I don’t show the same kind of zeal.

Star Trek: Section 31 remains the biggest debacle of content creation that the franchise has ever created. It is a universally reviled piece of entertainment that fails to appeal to the target audience (non-Star Trek fans), as well as the audience who would still give it a chance (Star Trek fans). It's an absolute waste of money and time.
If you didn't find one good thing in this film, you aren't alone. This film is utterly unwatchable. It's not even a subjective opinion. This is as close to a fact as we can get when we talk about quality in entertainment. There isn't really anyone defending the film and the rare few who do seem to like it in spite of what franchise it's supposed to be from.
Despite all that. Despite its terrible writing, horrible set pieces, and woeful attempts at being something other than Star Trek, there...

There are few details about the proposed reboot yet, but it appears Joss Whedon isn’t in the picture.
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is frequently found on lists of the best TV shows of the 1990s, and with good reason. The series was a model for other shows of the period, with its season-long story arcs and its strong female lead. Now, a new report from Variety indicates that the show could be nearing a return, with a reboot starring Sarah Michelle Gellar nearing a pilot order at Hulu.
Key Details: Gellar would reprise her role as a recurring character rather than the show’s lead. Original “Buffy” creator Joss Whedon is not expected to have a role in the show’s creative team. A pilot order doesn’t mean the show will get a full season, but it’s an important step in that process. 30-Day Free Trial $9.99+ / month hulu.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer concluded in 2003 after seven seasons on the air, and remains a beloved and influential show to this day. There's been talk over the years of rebooting Buffy, with original series creator Joss Whedon working with showrunner Monica Owusu-Breen on a new show a while back. But that idea fizzled out a couple of years ago, probably because Whedon was accused of toxic behavior on his sets and has since been excommunicated from Hollywood.
But lately there have been signs of something stirring, with original series star Sarah Michelle Gellar coming around to the idea of a revival. “I always used to say no because it’s in its bubble, and it’s so perfect,” she said last month. "But watching [recent reboot shows] Sex And The City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.'”

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Sequel Series With Sarah Michelle Gellar Returning Nears Hulu Pilot Order
In every generation, there is a chosen one — again.
Variety has learned from sources that a sequel series to the beloved show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is nearing a pilot order at Hulu.
Sources say that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to once again play the iconic title character in the untitled project, although it would focus on a new Slayer and Gellar would appear in a recurring role rather than leading the series.
Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce. Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar would also executive produce along with Gail Berman. Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui will executive produce via Suite B, while Dolly Parton will executive produce via Sandollar. 20th Television and Searchlight Television will produce. Berman, the Kuzuis, and Parton were all executive producers on the original “Buffy” series.

Get ready to leave your seat because Prison Break is returning! The beloved drama, which first hooked us in 2005, is being rebooted, and we couldn’t be more excited. For those who missed the original, it followed Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) as he intentionally gets thrown into prison to help his wrongfully convicted brother escape.
Over five wild seasons, the show became known for its jaw-dropping twists, keeping us all on the edge of our seats. Though it wrapped up in 2009 (with a TV movie and a short-lived spinoff), Prison Break came back for a fifth season in 2017, which didn’t hit the mark. Now, after a long break, a new reboot is on the horizon; here’s everything we know so far!

Prison Break's success is partly due to one of its most loved and hated characters, but I can't forgive the show for repeatedly trying to ruin him after season 2. Prison Break took the relatively common theme of an escape from prison and treated it in an entirely new way, with the key to the escape being hidden in messages tattooed on Michael Scofield. Over Prison Break's four seasons, movie, and following reboot, the show became drastically different, with an antagonist comprised of a group of largely interchangeable people rather than one or two terrifying characters.
Prison Break's biggest strength was its well-written characters and the unexpected journeys that they often took. Even the most villainous were generally people that audiences loved to hate, and waiting to see them get their comeuppance was one of the best parts of Prison Break.

Prison Break introduced audiences to some of the best characters in a TV drama. Though the show had a high kill count, some of its best and most interesting characters are still alive, which leaves the door open for a cameo in the upcoming reboot. It has been confirmed that Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will not be reprising their roles as Michael and Lincoln, but this does not mean that other members of the Fox River Eight could not appear. So far, the Prison Break reboot's plot has been kept under wraps, so there is potential for familiar faces.
Hulu has ordered a pilot episode of a new Prison Break series, which appears to be a way to test the water with a new potential audience. This is likely to be a smart decision, as Prison Break's season 5 was considered a mistake. The Prison Break reboot will take...

All things being equal, you’d never want to live anywhere near a supermax prison, but there are few patches of narrative real estate more beloved by broadcast television.
It’s easy to understand why. Your typical supermax prison — or any prison or facility that creators can claim is packed with the worst and most notorious of criminals — is like a concrete-encased cornucopia of procedural plotlines just waiting to break out.
It’s the fodder for much of Prison Break, as well as the third season of Heroes, the brief run of Alcatraz and just about any Batman story connected to Arkham Asylum. With some twists and variations, it’s the seed that germinated in several of NBC’s most successful shows of the ’10s, including The Blacklist and Blindspot — shows that made promises in their pilots that a weekly string of the worst villains imaginable were connected through a...

Prison Break might have featured some unforgettable villains among the prisoners in the show, but the main one was not a single person. Throughout the first two seasons of Prison Break, most of the plot was split between the surviving members of the Fox River Eight, who escaped Fox River Penitentiary with Michael and Lincoln. As the show progressed with more Prison Break seasons and a movie, it seemed to lose its edge, becoming more of a procedural drama that brought its main villain into the spotlight. However, this antagonist was more complex than any of the other Prison Break characters.
Most of the dangers faced by the main Prison Break characters came in the form of dangerous inmates, like the scene-stealing Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell, or sadistic and corrupt guards, like Brad Bellick. This allowed the show to explore different angles and expand on the characters' backstories, which were often intriguing.

1 character from Prison Break proves that continuing the show past season 1 was the right decision, despite arguments that it should have wrapped up. The intense show never quite captured the heights of its debut season, and that led many fans to theorize that it would have been better as a miniseries, instead of dragging the story out for way too long. This would have allowed Prison Break to preserve a pristine legacy, that only includes quality storytelling. However, some of Prison Break’s best episodes were actually from its second season, which is frequently overlooked.
Although Prison Break’s legacy may have soured following the poor reception of its final few seasons, there’s still some great storytelling in season 2 that doesn’t deserve to be forgotten about. It may be easy (and fair) to claim that it peaked too early, but those first episodes are not the only ones worth watching.

Alex Mahone had one of the most dramatic changes of all of Prison Break's characters, yet William Finchter's villain was not in season 5. Prison Break might have begun on a relatively small scale, with most of the main characters in Prison Break just trying to escape from Fox River Penitentiary. That said, as the show went on, Prison Break's story expanded to include an escape from a different prison and a government conspiracy that had overtaken the prison theme by season 4. By then, some of Prison Break's main characters had switched sides, including Michael and Lincoln's former nemesis, Alex Mahone.
Alexander Mahone was originally introduced as the ruthless, drug-addicted FBI agent whose intelligence matched Michael Scofield's. However, over time, he grew to sympathize with him, and Mahone's change of heart was one of the most unexpected things to happen in Prison Break. Similarly, some of the...

Jack Reacher is back, and this time around he’s set on hunting a foe he thought was dead. That’s what the first trailer for Season 3 of “Reacher” revolves around.
The trailer starts with Reacher (Alan Ritchson) being recruited for another mission, this time one involving the owner of a rug import business and the DEA. But this mission has a wrinkle: Quinn (Brian Tee), a former military officer who committed a horrific crime, is involved.
“I thought I killed him years ago,” Reacher says, starring down at a picture of Quinn.
As Kansas’ “Carry on Wayward Son” plays, Reacher executes his plan to become an undercover informant for the shady business. That puts him in direct opposition with Quinn’s hulking No. 2, Paulie (Olivier Richters), the first character this show has introduced that is larger than Reacher. The rest of the trailer jumps between shootouts, quips, double crossings...

Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) is back, taking down “the big, powerful sons of bitches who think they can get away with things,” in the words of his best only friend Neagley (Maria Sten). It’s kind of his thing.
Amazon Prime Video released the trailer for “Reacher” Season 3 on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. The season itself premieres on Thursday, February 20, which is when its first three episodes will be made available; the remaining five episodes will roll out weekly each Thursday through March 27, 2025.
“Reacher” has already been renewed for a fourth season, which will begin shooting this year.
The third “Reacher” season is based on Lee Child’s novel “Persuader.” This time, Reacher will infiltrate “the dark heart of a vast criminal enterprise when trying to rescue an undercover DEA informant whose time is running out,” per the official logline. “There he finds a world of secrecy and violence — and confronts some...

For all the blood, sweat, and manpower that ABC poured into finding a successor to "Lost" (a show that shaped the course of television in the early 21st century), I'd bet dollars to donuts the network never wagered it would take the shape of "Once Upon a Time."
Conceived by "Lost" alumni and "Tron: Legacy" writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, "Once Upon a Time" casts "House, M.D." veteran Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, a seemingly unremarkable bail bond agent who, just like any hero's journey protagonist worth their salt, discovers there's far more to her world (and destiny) than she ever realized. The show itself combines jigsaw puzzle-style storytelling with well-known fairy tale characters -- especially the Disneyfied versions, which was possible thanks to ABC being owned by the Mouse House -- to create a dense lore and elaborate mythos that rivals anything J.J. Abrams or Damon Lindelof could ever hope to dream of.

Disgraced filmmaker Brett Ratner will direct a new documentary on First Lady Melania Trump, which will be released in theaters and stream on Prime Video in the second half of 2025.
Promising an “unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look,” production on the documentary began in December 2024, with Trump herself serving as an executive producer. As such, it’s probably safe to assume the film will be heavily sanitized, likely avoiding any controversies surrounding her or her husband, President Donald Trump.
The documentary is the latest example of Big Tech and Hollywood’s embrace of the Trumps ahead of their impending return to the White House later this month. In recent weeks, several high-profile CEOs, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, have met with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Additionally, Amazon donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration fund.
Meanwhile, the project marks Ratner’s first major production since he was accused of sexual misconduct by six women,...

John R. Countryman, who billed as the child actor Johnny Russell appeared in films with Barbara Stanwyck, Tyrone Power, Shirley Temple and Jimmy Stewart before serving as a U.S. diplomat and ambassador in the Middle East and Africa, has died. He was 91.
Countryman died Dec. 14 in Loudoun, Virginia, after a short bout with pneumonia, his daughter, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Secretary Vanessa Countryman, told The Hollywood Reporter.
In the biggest role of his brief acting career, Russell portrayed Tyltyl, the younger brother of Temple’s Mytyl, in the fantasy film The Blue Bird (1940), which was Fox’s answer to MGM’s The Wizard of Oz, released a year earlier. In a dream, the two kids set out on on a series of adventures.

While Prison Break began with a relatively simple premise, the story became more complicated over time, with the mysterious Scylla taking center stage. Prison Break's original story covers the escape of the "Fox River Eight" as its central character finds himself over his head while trying to break his falsely accused brother out of prison. The show was so popular that the Prison Break franchise expanded, with multiple seasons, a movie, and a reboot on the horizon. Still, the show began to lose steam as the original plot was overtaken by the government conspiracy angle.
The first season of Prison Break keeps its conspiracy and set-up plot in the background while the main story focuses on the escape plan. Once the main characters have escaped the prison, the show grows too complex for its own good. One of the harshest realities of rewatching Prison Break is how far the...

The Prison Break cast is full of great actors who brought the show’s complex antiheroes and despicable villains to life, and they all have impressive filmographies outside the series. Prison Break revolves around the bond between two brothers and their plot to break out of jail. Along the way, they're helped out by the prison doctor, their childhood friend and lawyer, and a handful of fellow inmates who also want to break free. The producers of Prison Break found the perfect actor to play each part in the cast.
Traditionally, TV shows set up a main cast with several major characters that the audience can check in on every week. But Prison Break was far from a traditional TV show. Lincoln Burrows and his loyal brother Michael Scofield are the only characters who appear in every episode of Prison Break. Thanks to constant character deaths, the cast is always changing.

Over the past decade or so, reboots and revivals have become a major source of contention among consumers. More and more networks and streamers began rolling out updated iterations of past favorites, whether it was Netflix getting the Tanner family back together for Fuller House or The CW reimagining 1980s primetime soap Dynasty through a modern lens.
The success of reboots and revivals wasn't always a given, even if established IP seems like a safe bet for a slam dunk. While the craze has slowed down ever so slightly, there have still been plenty of returns, like sitcom revivals Will & Grace, Frasier, Roseanne, Night Court, and Mad About You, drama reboots like Charmed, Bel-Air, Gossip Girl, and Magnum P.I.
Whether we like it or not, the reboot and revival train will continue to move full steam ahead. There's already a handful of beloved shows set for some sort of return,...

Prison Break's Reboot Will Fail If It Doesn't Fix A Problem That The Original Show Never Figured Out
The highly-anticipated Prison Break reboot is expected to be different from the original series if happens, which means that it has the chance to fix a major problem. While the issue was fairly typical for shows in the early 2000s, the reboot will fail with a modern audience if it does not fix it. The crime thriller Prison Break had five seasons and a movie, including a revived series that brought many of the original characters back. This included the surviving "Fox River Eight" prison escapees and Sara Tancredi, one of the few recurring female characters in Prison Break.
While a show that is largely set in a male prison, understandably, has few female characters, Prison Break features a handful of recurring ones. Season 1 had the lawyer turned investigator, Veronica Donovan, and season 2 introduced the ambitious antagonist, President Caroline Reynolds. That said, the only main female character to appear in...

Prison Break seemed to lose its way as the series progressed, but the upcoming Prison Break reboot could fix its biggest mistake by bringing a character back. When it first aired in 2005, the series quickly became one of the most compelling crime shows of all time, with Prison Break spin-offs, and even a movie. Season 1 focused on Michael's mission to break Lincoln out of prison, and the subsequent escape of the "Fox River Eight." Season 2 dealt with the resulting manhunt, set against a wider conspiracy. This storyline introduced a more dangerous kind of villain to Prison Break.
Most of season 1's villains were sadistic guards and powerful inmates. However, when the main characters escape into the world again, they are pitted against a new set of villains, who have the law (and even the president) on their side. One of these is FBI agent Alex Mahone, whose intelligence and problem-solving ability match Michael's.

Why Did The Big Bang Theory Face A Ban In China? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
In 2014, The Big Bang Theory suddenly got the boot in China. It was huge there, pulling in over 1.3B views, making it one of the most-watched American shows in the country. But out of nowhere, Tbbt vanished from streaming platforms like Sohu TV, iQiyi, and Youku. Why? It wasn’t because Sheldon’s sarcasm was too much for them, but rather because of a little thing called “nerd culture” that didn’t sit well with the Chinese government.
The official excuse? “Violations of content rules” involving “pornography, violence, and content that violates China’s constitution.” What? But here’s where it gets spicy: According to Collider, some believe the real reason was far more strategic. China didn’t want to see their youth embracing The Big Bang Theory’s nerdy charm, especially the “diaosi” (the “loser...

His death was confirmed by his brother, John.
Born in Westwood, Conway graduated from Uc Santa Cruz where he studied film. A reboot of the popular drama series Prison Break is in development, and here's everything we know about the return of the hit Fox show. Debuting back in 2005, the original Prison Break centered on Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), a man who gets himself locked up in order to help his brother escape from prison after being set up for a crime he didn't commit. Across its five seasons on the air, the story grew more and more elaborate as Prison Break left viewers hanging on dramatic twists that defined the television of the mid-2000s.
Prison Break was originally canceled in 2009 after four seasons, but the incredible popularity of the show spawned a mobile-exclusive spinoff series, video games, and even a TV movie called The Final Break. Additionally, Prison Break was brought back for a fifth season in 2017, but it was largely written off as a mistake because of its poor execution.

“I’m sorry”: Wentworth Miller Quit Prison Break Because He Was Tired of Playing a Straight Character
When you think of Wentworth Miller, you picture those piercing blue eyes and the brilliant, calculated character—Michael Scofield, a highly intelligent structural engineer who deliberately gets himself incarcerated in a maximum-security prison to help his wrongfully convicted brother escape the death penalty. Miller became the hero of millions for his role in Prison Break, the one you couldn’t help but root for.
But behind those captivating blue eyes, he was keeping a secret.

Despite the accolades and legions of fans, the actor, who came out as gay in 2013, had a moment of reckoning. The character he portrayed no longer resonated with him, and he knew it was time for a change.
Wentworth Miller’s heartfelt goodbye to Prison Break and the role that defined him
It’s no surprise that Wentworth Miller’s portrayal of Michael Scofield in Prison Break made women (and men) swoon.

Per Deadline, Hulu has ordered a pilot for the Prison Break reboot from Mayans M.C. co-creator Elgin James. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the report states that while the project is its own thing, it will be set in the same universe as the original series.
If you’re hoping to see any original Prison Break characters show up in the reboot, it was previously reported that the series “is not expected to involve the characters at the center of the original series.” Plus, Wentworth Miller (who played Michael Scofield) has said he’s done with the series as he no longer wants to play heterosexual characters.
James will executive produce through his Sierra Drive banner alongside original series executive producers Dawn Olmstead, Neal Moritz, and Marty Adelstein. Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring is also onboard as an executive producer. Earlier this summer, Adelstein gave an update on the project,...

Just when we thought the Prison Break franchise was over, it sounds like we’re getting another series.
Deadline reported around this time last year that Hulu had put a “new incarnation” of the hit drama into development. Today, they reported that it has officially received a pilot order.
Prison Break first aired on Fox in 2005 before being canceled in 2009 after four seasons.

However, Fox aired a limited series revival in 2017, bringing back the show’s key players, including Wentworth Miller, Sarah Wayne Callies, and Dominic Purcell.
The next chapter will be an entirely new concept but will still take place in the universe of the original series.

The “Prison Break” reboot in development is one step closer to freedom, landing a pilot order from Hulu.
The new iteration of the series, from “Mayans M.C.” co-creator and showrunner Elgin James and 20th Television, is not expected to feature the characters at the center of the original jailhouse drama, Michael Scofield (played by Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). Rather, it will exist in the same universe as the original “Prison Break” but focus on a new crew of inmates.
James executive produces alongside Dawn Olmstead, “Prison Break” creator Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz. In addition to the “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff “Mayans,” James also co-created with Stephen Merchant the Amazon Studios/BBC One series “The Outlaws,” starring Christopher Walken.
