This week, the gods of the interwebs granted us a look at two dichotomous trailers for a pair of blockbuster comic book films soon to be hitting the mega-multi-plexes. Spider-Man: Homecoming and Justice League gave us somewhere around four-minutes total of titillating three-dimensional text, brief respites of prose, and the best action snippets CG could render. But beyond those stark generalities comes two massive worlds apart.
This should come as no surprise to any of us. Spider-Man is packed with wit, charm, and street-level action amidst the hints at bigger set pieces. Justice League is a dark and sordid affair – not without its own charm and wit, but punctuated with the Synder-trademarked sepia-hued gravitas and angst. At this point, would it be enough to say I was ear-to-ear smiles at one trailer… and terribly nervous about the other?
Two guesses which is which. Then again, if I give you two...

The newly discovered screenplay suggests the then 51-year-old film-maker reacting to the sexual liberation of the 1960s in characteristic fashion
Related: Previously unknown Ingmar Bergman script to be filmed by former antagonist
Ingmar Bergman’s work was often erotic, even, or especially, when sex was not the ostensible subject matter. There is a stark sensuality and fascination in some of the bleakest situations; an eros to go with the thanatos. But the recently discovered screenplay Sixty-Four Minutes With Rebecka – which Bergman evidently intended to retitle The White Wall and make as an English-language movie, forming his part of a tripartite collaboration with Federico Fellini and Akira Kurosawa – really is notably sexy, even if the sexiness is coloured by his distinctive anxiety, self-inspection, self-reproach, and intimate marital anguish. For Bergman, like Socrates, the unexamined sexual life was not worth living.

The first WWE Raw of 2016 looked set to be a bumper edition.
First of all, we were set for another few hours of Vince McMahon. Who doesn’t want that, right?
The Chairman of the Board returned last week to call out Roman Reigns, but ended up getting himself arrested after putting his hands on an officer. Then we saw some terrible acting from Stephanie McMahon that I haven’t yet recovered from, before the Vin man secured his bail from jail.
He returned to the arena at the end of the night to announce that Sheamus would be challenging for Reigns’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship on this week’s episode – with McMahon himself stepping in as guest referee.

Every so often, and in increasingly rare numbers, a big budget Hollywood extravaganza comes along and negates the crushing conditioned cynicism built into our cinematic receptors. Walking into a franchise reboot of a series that hasn’t received fresh blood in nearly three decades, following a trilogy of films having starred an infamously fallen matinee idol, forecasts were dubious at best for George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Premiering out of competition at Cannes just prior to receiving its worldwide premiere, the seventy year old originator of the iconic series defied all expectations to create a beautiful and intense action film, standing as one of the best sequels to arrive in well over a decade. Stuffed with innovative visuals, bloody violence, insanely choreographed car chases and serving a rudimentary feminist allegory coursing through the usual arid bromide of commonly testosterone laced genre, the film is unforgettable testament to the...

The first thing you notice in German actress Hannah Herzsprung is her stunning dark blue green eyes. They are like calm yet mysterious twin lakes. During the whole interview, I couldn't help losing myself in them. I've become a huge Herzsprung fan, ever since I saw her brave performance as a deeply troubled young piano prodigy in prison in her feature debut Vier Minuten (Four Minutes) some years ago. I was really thrilled when I found out that she would be available for an interview for her new film Who Am I: No System is Safe, a stylistic cyber thriller, playing at Kino! The vintage nastiness of the exploitative cult classic Mark of the Devil gets a pristine revamp from Arrow Video, a favored title from a golden era of new wave British horror that hasn’t had held quite the same reverence as some of the more notable titles of the era, such as Ken Russell’s The Devils, Robin Hardy’s The Wicker Man or Michael Reeves’ Witchfinder General. The project was inspired by Reeves’ film, who died of an accidental overdose at the age of 25. In hindsight, perhaps, as directed by Michael Armstrong (the film’s screenwriter who often wrote under the pseudonym Sergio Casstner), the title is a bit too familiar in to Reeves, and often feels like the slutty little cousin to the sleazy themes touched upon in the earlier film. Bizarre performances and an unnaturally evocative ambience help overcome the film’s desperate aim to shock with...

Receiving a Us release in August 2014, Salvo arrives with an equally subdued DVD release this month. An experimentally inclined gangster piece, any brooding tension established by an immersive theatrical experience tends to be compromised in a smaller format. Traction due to the film’s generous critical reception doesn’t explain the underwhelming DVD presentation, but perhaps it will reach the audience that neglected it during a limited theatrical run.
Though its initial setup holds considerable promise, due mostly to subdued visual cues that take on greater meaning as the plot unfolds, Fabio Grassianda and Antonio Piazza’s directorial debut, ends up casting a rather empty spell. Its brooding ambience traipsing into a shallow narrative coma, there’s much to be desired as concerns this mafia tinged love story of unexplained events and feelings. Obscurity is certainly not a cause for automatic dismissal, but there’s a failure to maintain any...

Oliver Hirschbiegel’s "13 Minutes" (aka “Georg Elser”) was among the top sellers at this year’s Afm with a wide range of deals closed for all continents. The latest film by the Academy Award-nominated director secured an all-rights-agreement from Beta Cinema for UK and Ireland, Studiocanal also locked the rights for Australia and New Zealand. Furthermore Beta Cinema sold the emotional portrait of the resistance fighter who tried to assassinate Hitler to Japan (Gaga Communications), France (Sophie Dulac Distribution), Scandinavia (Svensk Filmindustri), Benelux (September Film Rights), Brazil (Mares Filmes), Greece (Feelgood Entertainment), and Colombia (Cine Colombia).
Beta Cinema’s Afm promo reel raised also strong interest from distributors in the Us, amongst others.
"13 Minutes" relates the background of the failed attack on Hitler on November 8th 1939 in the Munich Bürgerbräukeller, where Hitler left the scene only 13 minutes before the explosion – leaving Elser to fail catastrophically. Painting a suspenseful, emotional portrait of "Georgie", how he was called in his hometown, the story takes us from Georg Elser’s early years in the Swabian Alps - when National Socialism arose - to his last days at the Dachau concentration camp, where he was killed shortly before the end of the war.
Hirschbiegel (“Downfall”) is supported by high-ranking talents before and behind the camera: Christian Friedel ("The White Ribbon"), Katharina Schüttler (“Generation War”) and Burghart Klaußner ("The White Ribbon") take the leads; among the crew members are author Fred Breinersdorfer ("Sophie Scholl"), Dop Judith Kaufmann ("Four Minutes") and the set-designer duo Benedikt Herforth ("Rommel") and Thomas Stammer (“Generation War”). The Oliver Hirschbiegel film is a production of Lucky Bird Pictures in coproduction with Swr, Ard Degeto, Br, Wdr, Arte, Delphi Medien, Philipp filmproduction and Broth Film. Producers are Oliver Schündler, Boris Ausserer ("Lucky Bird") and Fred Breinersdorfer ("Delphi"). Nfp ("The Lunchbox", " Hannah Arendt") will release the feature next April in Germany.

For its sixth month in a row, Felix Kjellberg's PewDiePie channel is at the top of the charts. But what's more impressive is the destination for Let's Play videos, charitable campaigns, and the sporadic look into Kjellberg's life keeps scoring more views than it did the month before. The United States national soccer team beat Ghana in their first game in the group round of the 2014 World Cup Monday night.
USA Beats Ghana At World Cup
U.S. came out onto the field in Brazil Monday determined not to let Ghana, who has knocked them out of the last two World Cups, get another win off of them. With less than a minute into the game, star forward Clint Dempsey dribbled through the left side of the penalty box and slid the ball inside the far post of the net for his squad’s first goal of the tournament.
With the one goal lead, the U.S. was able to settle into a possession game as Ghana fought to regain momentum. Eventually, the Ghanaians had their first legitimate chance to score, but were denied by American keeper Tim Howard, who sprinted off his line to make the save.

It’s Friday the 13th and a full moon tonight so we let the crazies loose and are bring back one of our favorite staff posts, The Thirteen! If you aren’t familiar with The Thirteen, it was initially conceived to be a Top 13 list of films about a certain topic. Sadly, we started it last September and it fell by the wayside. Read our past two posts:

13 Female Villains & Anti-Heroes in Film

contribution by Jeremy Jones
A young boy sees his dad abducted by some unseen force. Three years later a meteor hits in the middle of the woods and brings something icky. Written, directed and scored by Harry Bromley Davenport, Xtro is a demented labor of love. The first twenty minutes are the most chunk blowing worthy moments. Including perhaps the grossest thing ever, walking in on your parents having sex.

London, April 24: Madonna has been slammed by her fans after she used 'gay' as an insult for leafy vegetable kale in a word association game.
One of the avid equal rights campaigner's fans said that saying kale is 'gay' is meant to convey that she doesn't like it, so it is an insult and everybody is so tired of people using 'gay' in a negative context, the Mirror reported.
Another asserted that the 'Four Minutes' hit maker is as culturally sensitive as a bull in a china shop and puts her foot in her mouth constantly.
Earlier in 2014, the 55-year-old singer had to apologise after calling her son Rocco a 'n***er' on Instagram. (Ani)...

Ezequiel Lavezzi was the difference in the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-final as the Argentine scored one and made one to give his side a slender advantage of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.
Lavezzi gave the hosts the lead after just four minutes when he volleyed home after an error from John Terry but Eden Hazard levelled from the penalty spot before half-time. In the second period, an inch-perfect delivery from Lavezzi resulted in David Luiz putting the ball into his own net. Late on, Javier Pastore scored a superb solo effort to extend the Parisian’s advantage.
Chelsea started the game in the worst possible fashion as they fell behind after just four minutes. John Terry, fresh from scoring the decisive own-goal against Crystal Palace at the weekend, saw his weak header picked up by Ezequiel Lavezzi, who volleyed home from 10-yards.

The only goal came on just before the half hour, Oscar bending a free kick from 22 yards out into the far left corner after a foul on Samuel Eto’o by Erik Pieters, as Chelsea beat Stoke by a single goal at Stamford Bridge.
The first half started at a fast tempo, and both sides had a good chance to open the score. Inside the first six minutes Samuel Eto’o received the ball with his back to goal inside of the box, turned and fired inches wide of the far post, then peter Crouch headed wide from four yards after Simon Walters cross was deflected.
The game began to settle as both sides struggled for momentum, but that changed when Oscar showed his dead ball prowess. In the final five minutes of the half the game really opened, Frank Lampard coming so close to tapping...

Two of the stars of Syfy's "Helix" spent some time speaking with journalists recently, and we have the highlights here, including how they've developed their characters, whether they've been creeped out while filming, and lots more.
The series, which airs Friday nights at 10/9c, is the latest brainchild of Ron Moore, creator of “Battlestar Galactica," and if you've been watching, you'll know Mark Ghanimé as Major Sergio Balleseros and Catherine (Cat) Lemieux as veterinarian Doreen Boyle.
Things kicked off with a bit of discussion about their characters.
Q: Mark, are we going to learn more of your character's back story?
Mark Ghanimé: I really hope you do… you just have to wait and find out as far as when the episodes get released. But there's definitely going to be some interesting stuff developing with my character. He's got a lot of… he's multi-faceted let's just say. So we're going to see some surprises…...

Will Ferrell (in character as Ron Burgundy) and Robin Thicke offer a novel approach to the duet format in their cover of Christopher Cross' "Ride Like the Wind" for the Anchorman 2 soundtrack. While Thicke handles most of the vocal work (aside from Burgundy's echo, heavy on the vibrato, of the refrain "such a long way to goooo"), the news anchor serves as a sort of inept hype-man, with exclamations such as "It's a hot wind!" and "Feel that draft up your skirt ladies? That's me."

4.6 The North Star
Four minutes and nine seconds. It’s taken half a season for Margaret to reappear, both on screen and in Nucky’s life, and when she does, it’s for precisely four minutes and nine seconds. However long it was, it closed an unprecedented gap. As of this year, she had appeared in all but one of the thirty-six episodes, recusing herself only for the penultimate instalment of season three when, as you’ll recall, everybody was rather busy.
Even then, her last, brief return in Margate Sands felt stolen, like mere aftershocks of the trauma that she’d been through in that eventful year. We shared her moment in the abortion clinic, as she readied the removal of the baby...

Olivia Wilde visited the Late Show last night complete with her wedding rock bling and a fluffy white dress, and shared details of a recent David Blaine stopover at her L.A. house. The day was just magic. Literally six and a half hours of magic tricks, including a four-minute period during which she held her breath. (Four minutes!) But the magic stopped at the Drinking Buddies' actress's refusal to drown Blaine for fifteen minutes. What a spoil sport. But a smart one: She needs David Blaine for her magic-themed wedding to Jason Sudeikis. Watch the clip below.

If you thought things took a turn (or a few turns) last week, just wait til you see tonight’s season finale of Defiance. The turns will make your head spin. Things are getting ‘all types of cray!’ The ‘We Can’t Stop’ singer allegedly posted a tweet on June 24, giving Billy Ray Cyrus an hour to tell the truth about something we have yet to discover, but the message was quickly deleted. Miley Cyrus has been having trouble getting a hold of her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, since her mom, Tish Cyrus, filed for divorce on June 13. Tonight’s new episode of Defiance looks promising. Some of the premises may be familiar but what I like best about the show is the specifics about the various races, and the interaction, and the character development, and the look.
