Featured review
The Medium (1977 TV Movie) is the cinematic version of the opera by Gian Carlo Menotti. Peter Morin was the director.
The great contralto Maureen Forrester portrays Madame Flora. This is a difficult, demanding role vocally. It also requires good acting, and Forrester is great in both. Shauna Farrell sings the soprano role of Monica very well. Stelio Calagas is good in the non-singing role of Toby.
This opera has excellent music, but the plot is grim. If you like opera, you will enjoy The Medium. However, don't expect The Barbara of Seville. This opera is grim. Be advised.
