On his 2011 MTV Video Music Awards nomination for his single "My Last," Big Sean told MTV News, "If I win Best New Artist, I'm gonna go crazy, because I really worked hard as hell." The funny thing is that as big as the Chris Brown-assisted single was for him, Kanye West's understudy originally bucked at the idea of recording the poppy single.
"When No ID gave me that beat for the song 'My Last,' I did not want to do it at all," the Finally Famous Mc revealed.
Luckily for Sean, he was convinced otherwise. The song shot up the charts and peaked at #1 on the Billboard rap chart and #4 on the R&B/hip-hop chart. Ultimately, the single's success helped the Detroit...

'The type of music that I make ... is definitely underground and Southern hip-hop,' K.R.I.T. tells RapFix Live.

Big K.R.I.T. was already buzzing heavy before he signed his record deal with Def Jam, and on September 27 he will release his major label debut, Live From the Underground. The Mississippi rapper checked in to MTV's RapFix Live from the studio, where he is putting the finishing touches on his album, via Skype.
K.R.I.T., one of MTV Jams' Fab 5, became an underground rap favorite when he released the free mixtape K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, which played more like an album, in 2009. The project's soulful rap aesthetic and acclaim earned him a record deal, but the "Country Sh--" rapper is still holding on to his indie roots.

Earlier this week, one of the year’s most anticipated albums, the Jay-z and Kanye West collaboration Watch the Throne, dropped to much fanfare, a bevy of positive reviews and a big opening on the iTunes charts, where it hit No. 1 in 23 countries.
The album is a rarity these days in that it didn’t leak online before its official release. Now, the video for the set’s first single, “Otis,” is poised to do the same. With the exception of two images that made their way online just days after the song was released, little is known about the “Otis” video.
What we do know is that it is directed by Spike Jonze, the mastermind director behind the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage,” Bjork’s “It’s Oh So Quiet” and Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs” as well as the award-winning films “Being John Malkovich,” “Adaptation” and “Where the Wild Things Are.
