Oma Tingeling's new gas station is finished and ready for a grand opening. So, she asks Meneer Humdrum to bring over some supplies and champagne. The crooked Humdrum decides to make the bottle into a bomb. Sheriff Psop is asked to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony. Meanwhile Bief de Bermpiraat escapes from Psop's jail and steals the Sheriff's brand new scooter.

During the night a storm wind from the East has blown a young Chinese boy on the string of his kite over Oma Tingeling's fence. 'Uncle' Humdrum comes over immediately with Bief de Bermpiraat hiding in his cart to get his hands on little Lolo, not to mention his golden necklace. Luckily the ever alert Mik is on to them proceeds to scare Bief away with help from a big comfy chair.

Mak has constructed a radio, which, after some Hammond organ music by Joop Reynolds, warns that Tyfoon Marie is about to hit the Western hemisphere. Grandma Tingeling stands up to Marie by bravely taking a seat in her garden. But when Humbrum distracts her and lures her back inside, sea captain Yoho Brulboei is blown in from the sea. Grandma insists that Mik and Mak pretend to be sailors so as to ease the captain's shock. To everyone's surprise, Brulbroei recognizes young Chinese Lolo to be Prince Lo-Kian Ping from the small country of Chaos.

Oma Tingeling has written a letter to the monarch of Cha-Os to tell him his little boy Lolo has accidentally traveled to the crossroads of four winds by kite. Meneer Humdrum intercepts the letter and contacts Lo's evil uncle Taai-Tong. Sheriff Psop brings along two Hinderpol agents: # 609 & # 906 and instructs them to safeguard young Lo.

Lolo's aunt Ping-Ping has come over on Kapitein Brulboei boat from Chaos to fetch her nephew. Brulboei insists on being master of ceremonies for her arrival. Meneer Humdrum tries to get his hands on the golden luck statue (with ruby eyes and a colar full of jewels) that Ping-Ping has brought as a gift of her gratitude to Oma Tingeling.

It's raining everywhere except at the crossroads where Oma Tingeling lives. Meneer Humdrum is plotting to get his hands on her golden luck statue. He advices Mik and Mak to draw more customers to their gas station by re-directing traffic, then calls Sheriff Psop to come and arrest them for doing the same. Just then the Minister for traffic and his secretary decide to pay Oma Tingeling a visit.

Meneer Humdrum tries to steal Oma Tingeling's golden luck statue by posing as Wild West outlaw Kouwe Karel, assisted by Bief de Bermpiraat. He is however unaware that Oma's gas station has come under the protection of two genuine Indians from the Sjouw-Sjouw tribe, who are teaching Mik how to handle a lasso.

Mik wants to go out into the world again. He also suffers from 'Humdrumeritus', meaning that he can't stand Meneer Humdrum any more. So, he and Mak put up a sign banning Humdrum from the premises. Meanwhile, Humdrum is convinced that a visiting organ grinder called Felicio is really a disguised millionaire named Frederico Zultvoort. There is also a very familiar bowler hat that has flown over the fence.
