March is set to be a big month for Hulu, with a packed lineup of movies and shows heading to the streaming service. Things kick off on March 1 with a huge drop of over 50 films, including some major fan favorites.

Sci-fi lovers have plenty to look forward to as Hulu adds nearly the entire Alien franchise to its catalog. Viewers will be able to stream Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection, Alien vs. Predator, Alien: Covenant, and Prometheus. Prey and Alien: Romulus are already available, so this update brings the full saga together in one place.

For those more interested in award-winning dramas, March 1 also brings several critically acclaimed films, including American Hustle, Brooklyn, Jojo Rabbit, Good Will Hunting, The Social Network, and Sideways.

In terms of new original content coming to Hulu, March is a slight month, with the streamer’s highlight being the limited series premiere of We Were the Lucky Ones at the end of the month. The show, which is based on Georgia Hunter’s New York Times bestselling novel, is inspired by the true story of a Jewish family who are separated at the start of WWII, and who then have to survive in order to eventually reunite. We Were the Lucky Ones stars Joey King from The Kissing Booth films alongside Percy Jackson‘s Logan Lerman, and debuts on March 28.

March brings a fresh slate of new shows and films to Hulu. The rotation of the catalogue also makes room for well-loved films arriving on the streamer this month. Sports buffs will enjoy “Love and Basketball” (2000) as well as “Kicking & Screaming” (2005). Animated family favorites include “Rio” (2011) and “Ice Age: Continental Drift” (2010).

As for new releases, Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon play hard-working journalists in the investigative thriller “Boston Strangler” (2023) from writer and director Matt Ruskin. Olivia Colman can be seen as Miss Havisham in FX’s rendition of “Great Expectations.” And a new twist on reality dating involves the charming countryside with “Farmer Wants a Wife.”

And Best Picture Oscar nominee “Triangle of Sadness” hits the streamer on March 3.

On March 6, History of the World, Part II will finally arrive more than 40 years after Mel Brooks’ classic comedy History of the World, Part I. first premiered. Of course, Brooks never had any intention of adding future parts to his ahistorical film, but that yet makes the arrival of Part II so many years later even funnier. Described as a four-night comedy event, History of the World, Part II will release two episodes a day through March 9. Brooks returns to write and executive produce this series and will star alongside Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, and Ike Barinholtz. Guest stars include…everyone. Basically just everyone.

It’s ironic but unavoidable that the greatest annual celebration of film should be a television special — but that’s just how it is. March often means Oscar season, a time for cinephiles to boot up that small screen you use for movies and use it to see if they win any awards during a telecast.

If you don’t have TV service anymore, Hulu has you covered with a pre-Oscars telecast as well as two red carpet specials before and after the main event. Though the ceremony itself won’t be livestreamed on Hulu, it will be added the next morning, like regular ABC programming. Awards viewership has been in general decline over the past several years, but next-day streaming gives curious viewers a chance to join the conversation and boost those Oscar ratings after the live show. If you’re trying to figure out what to watch on HBO Max, you may want to prioritize a number of films that are due to leave the streaming service in April.

Set to depart HBO Max at the end of this month are such noteworthy films as the Oscar-winning “Promising Young Woman,” the Tom Hanks Western “News of the World,” the Kurt Russell 1996 thriller “Executive Decision,” and the extended version of Bruce Willis’ final “Die Hard” film “A Good Day to Die Hard.”

Succession star Jeremy Strong is taking on a new role, headlining and exec-producing the 9/11 first-responder limited series The Best of Us, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The in-development project explores the human fallout from the Sept. 11 attacks, with a focus on the first responders, students, teachers, New Yorkers and volunteers who worked on “The Pile” and how they were affected and treated. A network is not yet attached to the series.

Do not adjust your WiFi settings. No, you are not experiencing a severe case of Deja Streaming-vu. HBO Max’s list of new releases for May 2021 are indeed highlighted by two very recent WarnerMedia hits.

For starters, Tenet finally makes its long-awaited HBO Max this month. Mark your calendars as May 1 is the day that you can finally watch Christopher Nolan’s latest cerebral thriller. Of course, Tenet already had its theatrical release, but obviously that was not really an option for many of us. In addition to Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984 makes its triumphant return to HBO Max this month on May 13. The Wonder Woman sequel already premiered on HBO Max this past December, now it’s getting a second run on the streamer.

If you've seen one dog movie, you've probably seen them all, and Boaz Yakin's (Remember the Titans) red-blooded, family-friendly military feature Max isn't going to give you much of anything you haven't seen before. There are dog antics, petty kids coming into their own through their new animal friends, family drama and an obvious villain who just can't have a dog mucking up their plans. It's repetitive, it's lazy, it's narratively tired and plain-faced, but, most of all, it's just plain boring. We love superheroes because they demonstrate bravery, quick thinking, intelligence, master skills, and have awesome tools and vehicles. My three-year-old, Tate, who has yet to see a live-action Avengers, X-Men or Spider-Man movie, is fascinated with them all and loves to dress up in their costumes, sling webs and use mind control to stop imaginary bad guys. It just figures. Up front... most of us here at Dread Central were not fans of the original Machete. Yet, its sequel, Machete Kills, made huge strides in getting things right, and of course nobody went to see it. In fact, it had an historically bad opening.

According to Box Office Mojo, Machete Kills opened to $3.8M, which is the 8th worst opening in history for a movie in over 2,500 theaters. It joins flicks like Firehouse Dog and Rainn Wilson's The Rocker on the list of shame. Aye carumba! Machete don't draw. This poor showing without question puts the future of the franchise in trouble unless it heads direct to video with little to no star power.

Hollywood screenwriter Claire-Dee Lim, author of family-friendly film Firehouse Dog, is releasing an original comedy web series about three best girlfriends in San Francisco who stumble upon a magic vibrator that turns their loser lives upside down. The Power Object, which is scheduled to premiere June 6, is an adaptation from Lim's R-Rated comedy screenplay, co-story by writer-producers Mike Werb (The Mask, Face/Off, Tomb Raider, Curious George) and Michael Colleary (Face/Off). A cross between Sex and the City and Team America, The Power Object features a cast of customized doll puppets and toys (read: Barbies + arts & crafts). The original screenplay for The Power Object garnered Lim a lot of attention—which actually resulted in an offer to co-write Firehouse Dog—though no studio wanted to touch it. The web series craze hasn't seemed to catch on with the general public, but as far as the horror genre goes, we have an abundance to choose from. And today we got word of another that looks to be worth at least a few minutes of your time to check out: director and lead actor Russ Cootey's "The Resolve".

The premise is as follows:

"The Resolve" centers around Mike Patterson (Russ Cootey), a beleaguered man, gripped by O.C.D. issues with humanity, unleashed by fiery clashes on others. He explains to his therapist Sean Miller (Alex Ballar - War Wolves) how he has found a way to deal with his compulsion, which is to kill those who he believes are responsible for the misalignment in humanity.

• We knew a "Sex and the City" sequel was heading our way, but New Line Cinema today confirmed Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon will return to the Big Apple. • The awesome Michael Gambon has joined the cast of Allen and Albert Hughes' "The Book of Eli." Dang, that cast is really getting hudge. The film follows a hero who travels across America to protect a sacred book. Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Ray Stevenson and Mila Kunis co-star. (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Josh Hutcherson, the kid from "Bridge to Terabithia, " "Firehouse Dog" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth," has joined the cast of Lawrence Roeck's indie drama "Carmel." Lauren Bacall, Alfred Molina, Dina Eastwood and Hayden Panettiere are also on board.

Jeff Cardoni, the up and coming composer whose recent credits include Firehouse Dog and two American Pie movies, has been hired to write the music for Playboys, a Fox Atomic comedy directed by and starring Zack Cregger and Trevor Moore. Cardoni is also going to score The Vicious Kind, a drama comedy about a man obsessed with his brother's girlfriend. Lee Toland Krieger directs, Brittany Snow, J.K. Simmons and Alex Frost star. Moviegoers stuck with the familiar during the Easter holiday weekend: Blades of Glory and Meet the Robinsons, the previous weekend's top two, once more rose to the top at the North American boxoffice, while Ice Cube's comedy sequel Are We Done Yet? received the warmest reception of the weekend's newcomers.

The R-rated Grindhouse, with a running time of more than three hours, provided the biggest surprise of the weekend. The exercise in low-rent, '70s nostalgia from directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino had been expected by many to dominate the frame, but the Weinstein Co.'s Dimension Films release opened at a tepid No. 4, attracting just $11.6 million. Rounding out the new releases, the horror pic The Reaping took fifth place with $10.1 million, while 20th Century Fox's family movie Firehouse Dog snuck into 10th place with just $4 million.

"It was one of those great weekends for incumbents," Buena Vista Pictures Distribution president Chuck Viane observed.

Buoyed by strong holdovers, overall business for the top 10 films was up nearly 9% over the comparable weekend last year, when 20th Century Fox's Ice Age: The Meltdown, in its second weekend, dominated the charts with $33.8 million, while Sony Pictures' The Benchwarmers and New Line Cinema's Take the Lead were the top two new releases.

The PG-13 Blades, Paramount Pictures' release of the DreamWorks/MTV Films comedy starring Will Ferrell and Jon Heder, demonstrated definite stamina, falling just 30%. Its weekend take of an estimated $23 million, following strong daily showings during the week, brought its collective purse to $68.4 million.

"It's always great to have the No. 1 film two weeks in a row," DreamWorks spokesman Marvin Levy said, "but it only happens if you have a film that the audience is really enjoying." In its second weekend, the movie expanded to the over-25 audience, DreamWorks reported. "And we're in good shape to keep gliding along on our skates," Levy said of the comedy, produced by Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films and directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck.

Playing to the family audience, Buena Vista's G-rated animated Robinsons, directed by Stephen J. Anderson, hung in strongly as well, falling just 32%. Its estimated weekend take amounted to $17 million in 3,435 theaters, bringing its cume to $52.2 million.

Like Blades, Robinsons took advantage of spring vacations and built during the week.

Bree Turner (The Wedding Planner) has signed on to join Firehouse Dog for Regency Enterprises. The story follows Rexxx, Hollywood's most in-demand canine star. After getting lost, the divalike dog is adopted by a down-on-its-luck firehouse. Turner will play Liz Knowles, a commercial producer who works with Rexxx before he goes missing. Josh Hutcherson already boarded the project, which is being directed by Todd Holland from a Claire-Dee Lim screenplay. Bruce Greenwood, Dash Mihok and Steven Culp round out the cast.
