Although it lasted only one season, Freaks and Geeks continues to hold a special place in viewers hearts 25 years later.
On Wednesday, series creator Paul Feig and EP Judd Apatow celebrated the milestone anniversary of his breakout ’80s-set high school series, which aired 1999 to 2000 on NBC, along with stars Seth Rogen, Martin Starr and Samm Levine.
“Freaks & Geeks premiered 25 years ago today on @nbc,” wrote Feig with throwback photos from the set. “It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and changed everything for me. Eternally grateful to @juddapatow for taking a chance on my little spec script about growing up in Michigan and making it happen with @dreamworks as well as to our stellar cast, writers, directors and crew for bringing it to life. Robert plays the song’s iconic guitar licks while Toyah sings and dances seductively around her husband. It all culminates with Toyah slowly licking the side of Robert’s face.
The ever-youthful Robert and Toyah just celebrated their 78th and 66th birthdays on May 16th and May 18th, respectively. They’ve been entertaining fans with their “Sunday Lunch” series for four years now.

Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.
The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.
Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Before all that though is the real heavy hitter. You can watch Austin Butler’s acclaimed performance as The King in Elvis as early as May 1. Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox take on blink-182’s “Dammit” in the latest installment of their “Sunday Lunch” series, as the married couple deliver an “elderly edition” of the coming-of-age punk anthem.
The 77-year-old King Crimson guitarist and the 65-year-old new wave singer have proven to be ever-youthful since launching their “Sunday Lunch” YouTube series in 2020, serving up playful covers of popular rock songs. What’s the best destination for spring TV? IndieWire doesn’t have a definitive answer, but as we do every month we’ll help you weigh the options with a breakdown of everything coming to your favorite streaming platforms in May.
The month is a prime time to have Disney+, what with the ongoing and buzzy success of “X-Men 97” and upcoming “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” going behind the scenes of the reboot series. May is of course the month of Star Wars, and the House of Mouse will celebrate with “Star Wars: Tales of the Empire” on May 4. Disney is also home to BBC America’s “Doctor Who,” which returns for a highly-anticipated 14th season with Ncuti Gatwa stepping into the Tardis as the new Doctor (he stepped into the role in December 2023 as part of the series’ beloved Christmas special tradition).

Five years ago, Robert Fripp was still merely known as the legendary guitarist of prog-rock pioneers King Crimson. Fast-forward to the present, and he’s the guy who does kooky “Sunday Lunch” YouTube videos with his wife Toyah, so it wouldn’t exactly be a shock if he joined OnlyFans. Thankfully, though, a new video declaring as much is merely an April Fools’ joke.
The clip was posted on the 77-year-old Fripp’s Instagram page with the caption, “Robert has officially joined OnlyFans! Subscribe now for exclusive, jaw-dropping content you never knew you needed…” In the video, we see a naked Fripp seductively sitting on a staircase, with only his guitar strategically preventing things from getting X-rated.

It’s not the only fun new clip from Fripp.

Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox kick it old-school with their latest “Sunday Lunch” performance. The married couple take on the Beastie Boys classic “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party).”
The King Crimson guitarist plays the Licensed to Ill song’s iconic riff as Toyah shows off her rhyme-slinging skills. Robert even chimes in on vocals in the chorus, and wraps up the performance by exclaiming, “Fight for your right to party with Toyah and Robert’s ‘Sunday Lunch.'”
These days, Toyah and Robert don’t post new “Sunday Lunch” videos every week, often re-posting past performances from the archives, but this is a brand-new edition of the popular YouTube series.
The couple celebrated New Year’s Eve with a cover of Kiss’ “Lick It Up,” and last year they performed such songs as Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation,” Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love,” Mötley Crüe’s “Shout at the Devil,...

Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox celebrated New Year’s Eve with a special “Sunday Lunch” performance of the Kiss song “Lick It Up.”
Less than a month after Kiss played their final show ever, the married couple paid tribute to the legendary rock band by putting their own spin on the classic tune.
‘The “Sunday Lunch” performance features King Crimson guitarist Fripp in Gene Simmons’ “Demon” makeup, with a giant red tongue as an accessory. All the while, Toyah dances around and sings the song’s suggestive lyrics.
The next day, January 1st, the couple posted a “Happy New Year” greeting, featuring Toyah planting a big kiss on Robert’s lips.
This past fall, Toyah and Robert embarked on their first-ever “Sunday Lunch” tour, hitting multiple cities in the UK. While they no longer post new videos every week, 2023 saw the couple offering frisky renditions of Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love,...

After a few weeks of revisiting past performances, Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox are back with a new “Sunday Lunch” cover song. The married couple take on The Hives’ “Hate to Say I Told You So” in the latest edition of their popular YouTube series.
While Robert and Toyah usually cover older material, “Hate to Say I Told You So” is becoming a classic itself, having been released more than 20 years ago. It remains the signature song for The Hives, the Swedish garage rockers who’ve now been around for 30 years as a band.
For this cover, both Robert and Toyah are dressed as bees (get it: hives!), with the King Crimson guitarist being pestered by his singer wife throughout the performance. A sign on their kitchen cabinets reads, “Fripp is ma honey bee.”

Country-pop star Carrie Underwood opened the first two shows of Guns N’ Roses ‘ 2023 North American tour, and she worked a handful of rock classics into her setlist on each occasion.
Underwood’s first support slot for Gn’R came this past Saturday (August 5th) in Moncton, New Brunswick, where she opened with Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” and played Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me with Your Best Shot,” The Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses,” Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll,” and lastly and most notably, the Motörhead staple “Ace of Spades.”
Hearing Underwood and her band take on a song bordering on heavy metal is a treat, proving that the singer can pull off heavy music with as much energy and conviction as her standard Nashville fare. Of course, it also appeals to the crowd largely consisting of Gn’R fans.

Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox usually cover a classic song on Sundays. But this time around they not only cover Cream, but also get covered in cream as they perform “Sunshine of Your Love.”
The fun-loving married couple pay homage to one of rock’s first supergroups — comprised of Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton, and Ginger Baker — by literally incorporating the band’s name into the performance. Toyah pours cream all over herself as she sings the song, and then friskily asks Robert to take off his guitar. She then hugs the King Crimson guitarist so that he gets covered in cream, as well.
Sexual innuendo aside, it’s another fun “Sunday Lunch” episode from Toyah and Robert as they prepare to hit the road in support of their popular YouTube series. The couple recently announced a fall tour of the UK, kicking off September 30th in Wimborne, and wrapping up October 29th in Birmingham.

After taking a month off from their “Sunday Lunch” performances, Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox are back with a rendition of the Joan Jett classic “Bad Reputation.”
The King Crimson guitarist and his vocalist wife play off the song’s theme, with Robert taking on the bad-guy role and Toyah pasting sticky notes with the word “Bad” all over his forehead. Along with her usual revealing outfit, Toyah is sporting a new hairdo that harkens back to her days as a new wave singer in the late ’70s and early ’80s.
The couple had been posting archival videos over the past few weeks, with the previous new “Sunday Lunch” performance being a cover of J. Geils Band’s “Centerfold” in late March.
Other recent “Sunday Lunch” performances include covers of Mötley Crüe’s “Shout at the Devil,” Kiss’ “I Was Made for Lovin’ You,” and The Offspring’s “The Kids Aren’t Alright.

It feels just like last month we were complimenting Hulu on its true crime offerings. Well, with its list of new releases for February 2023, Hulu is staying in the true crime lane. Suppose that’ll happen when you push back the release date of a series or two.
February sees the arrival of three notable true crime series on Hulu. Taiwan Crime Stories premieres on Feb. 1 and presents four true tales from Taiwan’s criminal “dark underbelly.” That will be followed by ABC News Studios’ Killing County on Feb. 3. That three-episode series ponders the question “what happens when police kill?” The most interesting true crime offering premieres on Feb. 9. That’s when Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence College shares its four-episode saga of Larry Ray and the young college students he victimized.

Both were surprise entrants in the 30-superstar battle royals and former UFC champs. Straight from the Dome at America’s Center, let’s revisit the biggest moments from the Royal Rumble. Welcome Back Ronda WWE After a history-making run with WWE, Ronda Rousey took time away to start a family. There was always the question if we would see the trailblazing Mma fighter back in the ring again. That was answered at the Rumble. You could almost feel the building shake as the sounds of Joan Jett and The Blackhearts’ “Bad Reputation” echoed through the building. Rousey and Charlotte Flair were the last two, which created quite the big fight showdown.

Logan Paul is the latest YouTuber to be booted from The Masked Singer, a hit reality franchise born in South Korea whereby celebs compete in a singing competition while uproariously costumed from head to toe.
During his brief tenure on the series -- which is hosted by Nick Cannon (though Niecy Nash is filling in as Cannon recovers from Covid) and judged by Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, and Nicole Scherzinger -- Paul was disguised as a character named 'Grandpa Monster', and last night aptly performed Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation.” During yesterday's show, panelists incorrectly guessed that Grandpa Monster was quarterback Johnny Manziel, Jake Paul, Kevin Hart, and wrestler The Miz, reports The Wrap.

Hollywood’s freakiest costume party got a little smaller on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” when Grandpa Monster was sent packing after rocking out to “Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett. The orange, furry beast was revealed to be internet personality, podcaster and boxer Logan Paul. Nobody was more crushed by his reveal than panelist Nicole Scherzinger, who guessed Grandpa Monster was Logan’s brother, Jake Paul.

First there was Monster (T-Pain). Then there was Miss Monster (Chaka Khan). Later came Squiggly Monster (Bob Saget). And now there’s … Grandpa Monster! This orange, elderly, bearded creature hopes to follow in T-Pain’s footsteps by winning “The Masked Singer” Season 5, and he’s on the right track as he already has the support of the show’s panelists. “You know you shut it down when your unifocal is fogged up,” laughed Nicole Scherzinger after watching Grandpa Monster give it his all on the stage during his debut performance on Wednesday, March 17.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer.”)
“The Masked Singer” Season 5 returned Wednesday with an episode featuring Group B’s second performances and the show’s second “Wildcard” round. And just like last week, the night’s surprise contestant came in and managed to steal the slot from an existing competitor. In this case, it was newbie Crab who got more votes than Grandpa Monster, who was thus eliminated from the competition and unmasked at the end of the episode.
Following last Wednesday’s inaugural “Wildcard” round for Group A — which now consists of Russian Doll, Seashell, Robopine (f.k.a. Porcupine) and Orca (who ousted Raccoon) — Group B’s remaining contestants Grandpa Monster, Chameleon, Black Swan and Piglet took the stage again.
They each gave their second performances in front of panelists Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger, as well as guest host Niecy Nash.

Logan Paul admits his experience on “The Masked Singer” got off to a rough start. Paul, who was the next celebrity to be unmasked on Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” said learning to sing and dance at the same time for the show wasn’t exactly what he expected.
“I can barely sing, I’ve never performed in this way, let alone adding dancing to this,” said Paul, who performed as Grandpa Monster. “This is a nightmare. And it was at first, until I crossed that hump and really started falling in love with the show.”
But he recalled being “scared and hesitant” early on. “My PR team got the angry call, I was like, ‘this show is not for me I’m not good at it.

My husband and I have gone a lot of drives since moving to New Jersey last year — to small seaside towns, to rolling farmlands, through the notorious Meadowlands and their belching sulfuric funk. The most obvious point of comparison for “Suzi Q,” a new documentary about the pioneering 1970s rocker Suzi Quatro, is “Bad Reputation,” a two-year-old doc about Joan Jett. That’s not least of all because Jett is a frequent on-camera presence in the new movie, and comes off as such an acolyte of the woman who broke glass ceilings slightly before her, that you can almost imagine there’s some kind of “All About Eve” story in the wings. There doesn’t seem to be, although Quatro does mention with a hint of rue that when the other singer’s smash “I Love Rock ’n’ Roll” came out, people mistakenly congratulated her. In some sense, Quatro was Jett before Jett was really Jett — laying down the leather law when no female rocker had yet managed the combination of sex appeal and pure machisma.
Ultimately, though, Quatro comes off quite differently...

There is no doubt when you’re watching Tom Hardy that you’re getting 100% commitment from the actor. However, that intensity of craft has left behind a reputation that the actor is “difficult,” with “Mad Max: Fury Road” proving to be one of the most public instances where his behavior on the set spilled into the public. But Hardy is never one to sugarcoat anything, and while he doesn’t quite agree he’s a bad boy, he does admit he’s sometimes not been the easiest person to work with.

Since any New York City cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

During the Marvel Panel at Comic-Con, the studio screened some of the first footage from director Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming. The movie has only been in production for ten days, but they had already shot a good amount of footage involving some of Peter Parker's high school scenes. Of course, there were a few other shots of Tom Holland as Spider-Man in action.

Netflix is showing viewers more of its next superhero-themed series. The streaming platform released a new teaser trailer for Marvel's Jessica Jones on October 1, 2015.

Sometimes a song says it all, and for their latest teaser for "Jessica Jones," Netflix cranks up "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett. While I'll always associate the song with "Freaks & Geeks," for the comic fans out there, it's the track that lays the groundwork for the next Marvel small screen series. As you know, Krysten Ritter is the titular character, who is trying to go straight, but can't quite keep her superpowers at bay. Here's the official logline: After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases in New York City. It's time the world knew her name... It's a neat teaser I guess, though the whole room-full-of-maimed-bodies thing is getting a bit played out. "Jessica Jones" arrives on November 20th. ...

"Jessica Jones" doesn't care if she's got a bad reputation.
Netflix has released a new, under-minute teaser for their upcoming Marvel drama, and it's as tantalizing as the first. We never get to see Jessica's (Krysten Ritter) face, but we certainly get a sense of her personality as she cues up Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation" on the jukebox. Then, she picks her way carefully through the remains of a big bar fight - other patrons knocked out or trying (and failing) to get at her.
So, what we know: 1) Jessica likes to drink, and 2) She can brawl. Our kind of girl!
Other than that, we know that Jessica is a former superhero who has given up her powers to open a supernatural detective agency. Mike Colter stars as Luke Cage (before going off to his own Netflix series), David Tennant as the villain Kilgrave, Rachael Taylor as Bff Patsy,...

Jessica Jones doesn't give a damn about her "Bad Reputation."
Marvel released a new teaser for their upcoming Netflix series "Jessica Jones" on Wednesday, depicting the anti-heroine sauntering past the remnants of a bar fight as Joan Jett's classic rock anthem plays in the background.
Like previous clips, star Krysten Ritter's face remains obscured, but her streetwise demeanor is on full display. The camera focuses on her motorcycle boots and leather jacket, and the final sequence shows her bloodied hands slamming a shot glass onto the bar.
