At long last, it seems like Broken Lizard is getting the gang back together for another round of cop-related shenanigans. That's right! After much discussion in recent years, it seems that "Super Troopers 3" is coming together. While a formal announcement hasn't been made, writer/director Jay Chandrasekhar has revealed that the project is in active discussions at Disney and appears to be close to getting approval. In short, unless something derails it, it's happening.

During a recent appearance on the "Holmberg's Morning Sickness" radio show, Chandrasekhar revealed that, despite Disney's $71.3 billion purchase of Fox in 2019, "Super Troopers 3" is still very much alive. It was previously revealed during San Diego Comic-Con in 2018 that the sequel will be titled "Winter Soldiers," and whether or not that's still the case remains to be seen. The "Monty Python" film series is something of a legend in and of itself. The franchise is utterly beloved by comedy enthusiasts, and though we've had a lot of great comedic groups come together to make films since — The Lonely Island, anyone? — none have had quite the same spark as those English comics. That said, we may finally get our generation's answer to "Monty Python's The Holy Grail" in "Quasi," a new Hulu comedy that centers on a satirical look at Quasimodo, aka the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

After returning for “Super Troopers 2” in 2018, the group—which comprises director Jay Chandrasekhar and writer/actors Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske— have returned once more for a new hunchback-in-love comedy called “Quasi.”

This new one features the same gang, Steve Lemme, Kevin Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar, and Erik Stolhanske, but also adds Adrianne Palicki as the damsel of the picture set in medieval times.

A number of great movies are leaving HBO Max at the end of March, so it’s time to prioritize these titles in your queue. Filmmaker James Gunn’s sequel/soft reboot “The Suicide Squad” will depart the streaming service on March 22 after first hitting HBO Max the same day it was released in theaters back in 2021. Similarly, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was whisked away on March 1 after also getting a day-and-date release in 2021 (sorry/not sorry if you missed it).

You also only have until March 7 to stream “Just a Boy From Tupelo: Bringing Elvis to the Big Screen,” a short documentary on the making of the Oscar-nominated biopic “Elvis.”

Other noteworthy films leaving HBO Max this month include “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Contagion,” the extended version of “Dances with Wolves,” “Ghostbusters,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Love & Basketball” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

There’s nothing quite like when HBO is airing one of its trademark watercooler-worthy dramas weekly. Thankfully, we’ll get to it experience exactly that and more on HBO Max in March 2023.

The big ticket item on HBO Max this March is undoubtedly Succession Season 4 on March 26. Part prestige drama and part screwball comedy, Succession is about as fun a watch as they come. Season 4 of the series about egregious wealth will find the Roy siblings reeling after trying and failing to take down their father, Logan (Brian Cox).

HBO Max’s other major TV option this month is another weekly release from HBO. Matthew Rhys returns as the titular lawyer in Perry Mason Season 2 on March 6. Season 1 of this period piece reboot flexed the classic TV character’s detective skills. From the look of the trailer, it seems as though this is the year Perry makes his name in the court room.

Spooky Season is in session on Hulu, as the streaming service is adding a ton of horror-themed content this month. But not to worry, there’s plenty of other non-spooky new movies and shows to watch, too.

In the horror realm, director David Bruckner’s new (and well-received) take on “Hellraiser” arrives on Oct. 7, while horror films ranging from “Annabelle: Creation” to “The ABCs of Death” to “Monster House” to “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” arrive throughout the month.

In decidedly non-scary new arrivals, the entire series of “Schitt’s Creek” comes to Hulu on Oct. 3 after streaming on Netflix for the last few years, while the Hulu original film “Rosaline” – which tells the “Romeo and Juliet” story from a different point of view – streams on Oct. 14.

Other noteworthy library titles include Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” on Oct. 25 and David Cronenberg’s “Crimes of the Future” on Oct. 31.

When the name of your streaming service so neatly fits into the word “Halloween,” you have a moral imperative to bring the goods come spooky season. Thankfully Hulu is abiding by that obligation with its list of new releases for October 2022.

Halloween…or rather Huluween is set to be a big deal for the streamer. This month sees a bevy of horror offerings. On the TV side of things, the series adaptation of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser premieres on Oct. 7. That will be accompanied by two animated specials from Solar Opposites co-creator Justin Roiland. The first is A Sinister Halloween Scary Opposites Solar Special on Oct. 3, which is followed by The Paloni Show! Halloween Special! on Oct. 17.

Chandrasekhar is an actor, writer, entrepreneur and filmmaker, as well as a founding member of the comedy troupe Broken Lizard. His work with that group includes the cult favorite features Super Troopers, Super Troopers 2, Club Dread and Beerfest which he wrote, directed and starred in. He is also known for directing the 2005 hit remake of The Dukes of Hazzard for Warner Bros.

Chandrasekhar most recently directed the comedy Easter Sunday, starring comedian Jo Koy, for Universal and DreamWorks, which is slated for release on August 5th. “Tacoma Fd” is a workplace shenanigan-style comedy that has garnered polarized reviews from its audience – the jokes will either land with you or they won’t. However, an 8.1 out of 10 rating on IMDb shows the audience has mostly liked it.

Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme wrote this show. They are also the show’s executive producers, alongside David Miner, Greg Walter, Brandon Hendrix, and Kyle Clark.

All streaming services go through a down period after the excitement of Spooky Season, it’s only natural. Thankfully with its list of new releases for November 2020, Hulu is making the best out of a barren pop culture landscape.

Steve Lemme and Kevin Heffernan of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe have forged a strong name for themselves in the comedy world. The collective started as a NYC-based sketch group, but slowly parlayed their talents to the big screen. Many people still regard Broken Lizard’s Super Troopers to be their strongest feature, but over the years they’ve put out a number of memorable, irreverent comedies like Beerfest and Club Dread. Lemme and Heffernan’s latest efforts have taken them over to television with TruTV’s Tacoma Fd. The hilarious firefighter series is well in production on their second season, but just because they’ve found success on TV doesn’t mean that they’ve turned their backs on cinema. Quite the contrary.

Turner’s TBS, TNT and truTV have set their lineups for next month’s New York Comic Con, with panels featuring the likes of All Elite Wrestling and Chris Jericho, an exclusive sneak peek of the upcoming TNT sci-fi series Snowpiercer, and Samantha Bee previewing her next Full Frontal special “Election 2020.”

The lineup also includes truTV’s Impractical Jokers and its stars, who will be joined by Jameela Jamil to talk about TBS’ new game show The Misery Index, which she hosts. Tacoma Fd showrunners Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme wanted to create a new comedy that was as serious as it was silly.

Along with Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske, Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme are best known for their work with the Broken Lizard comedy troupe. The group is responsible for a string of comedy films in the 2000s, like the first Super Troopers and Beerfest, that shaped American comedic sensibilities at the movies for a decade.

With their original truTV series Tacoma Fd, however, Heffernan and Lemme wanted to do something a little different. The show premiered in late March and gradually, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, gained a niche following that has resulted in some pretty good ratings for the network. Isaac Kappy, an actor who had a small role in the 2011 “Thor” movie, died on Monday after jumping off a bridge in Bellemont, Arizona, and being struck by a truck. He was 42.

Kappy forced himself off the Transwestern Road bridge onto Interstate 40 where he was hit by a Ford pickup truck, Department of Public Safety spokesperson Bart Graves said Tuesday morning, the Arizona Daily Sun reported.

Two teenagers driving past got out of their vehicle and tried to physically restrain Kappy from jumping, but failed, according to authorities.

“We don’t know why Mr. Kappy took his own life,” Graves said in a statement. No one else was injured during the incident and the investigation has been closed.

With Roseanne back on the air after 20 years, and shows and films like Stranger Things, It and Ready Player One relying so heavily on their nostalgia factor, it’s not too surprising that we got a second Super Troopers. 17 years ago, the Broken Lizard troupe came out of nowhere, landing a deal with Fox Searchlight, grossing an unbelievable amount of money, and creating a cult hit in the process. Much of their charm feels reminiscent to that of Monty Python’s. But just as a second Holy Grail would impair the impact of the first, Super Troopers 2 has little worth laughing at other than a couple of retold jokes.

If you're looking to see the best of the Super Troopers, you should probably see Super Troopers 2 in theaters today. This video will give you a slight taste of what to expect, you know, so you don't get your hopes up too high. April 20, recognized among marijuana users as the international holiday of 4/20, falls on a Friday this year, which turns out to be the perfect release date for Fox Searchlight’s “Super Troopers 2,” the long awaited sequel to the 2001 stoner-movie classic “Super Troopers.” It will open wide on 2,400 screens.

“Fox Searchlight chose 4/20 as the release date,” director Jay Chandrasekhar says. “It tested better than any of the movies we’ve ever made before. There’s real enthusiasm at Fox over this film.”

That’s not often the case with so-called stoner movies, which have endured waves of acceptance and industry reticence over the years. But now with marijuana legalization in full swing in nine states, including California, have the studios come around to stoking that market again like Cheech & Chong did during the decriminalization wave of the ’70s with “Up in Smoke” and several sequels into the ’80s?

Seventeen years after the original “Super Troopers,” the sequel is arriving in theaters with a massive assist from fans of the wacky police comedy.

“I’ve been on a 17-city tour for the fan screenings, and we’ve been going out to party and I’ve been performing stand-up between the screenings, so it’s been a busy time,” director Jay Chandrasekhar told Variety.

“At one point in Vancouver, we walked into a bar and there were 10 guys dressed like us in state trooper gear,” he recalled. “There’s a level of fan interest that’s very gratifying.”

“Super Troopers 2” begins opening Thursday night in North America in previews and expands to 2,040 locations Friday. It’s 2018, ’80s nostalgia is a commodity, “Roseanne” is back on the airwaves, and Sony’s trying to revive “Men in Black.” As pop culture goes into the weeds, of course there’s a sequel to “Super Troopers.” The anarchic 2001 comedy from the Broken Lizard troupe came out of nowhere to find a home with Fox Searchlight, generate nearly 20 times its budget at the box office, and become a cult hit. The depraved antics of raunchy highway patrolmen, more keen on pranking civilians than keeping them safe, could have birthed a next-gen “Police Academy” — but Broken Lizard frontman Jay Chandrasekhar, who directed the first installment, chose to hone his penchant for crass comedy with “The Dukes of Hazard” and “Beerfest,” among others.

Focus Features has released the first full-length trailer for ‘Super Troopers 2‘, and it is glorious. In 2001, the Broken Lizard comedy troupe wrote and starred in the comedy “Super Troopers” about five goofball Vermont state troopers who are forced to save their jobs by actually solving a crime instead of pulling pranks all day. The film was a moderate box office success and was a hit on home video, and in the past 15 years, it has become a cult classic. Now, the long-awaited sequel has started filming, confirmed by the Broken Lizard Facebook page with the cheeky comment: “Action, chickenf**kers: back on set and we just the first new scene of #SuperTroopers2.” Check out the photo below.

The sequel is the result of a widely successful crowdfunding campaign. On March 24th, 2015, Broken Lizard announced that they had studio permission, but were required to acquire production funding themselves. They launched an Indiegogo campaign with an initial goal of $2 million.

Summer is officially here, but thanks to HBO’s latest releases, bingeing TV shows and movies on the couch may be preferable to a day at the beach. New original programming includes the premiere of “The Night Of,” a gritty new New York based miniseries, and “Vice Principals,” a dark comedy about feuding administrators.

Returning programming includes Dwayne Johnson’s “Ballers” and “Looking: The Movie,” which sums up the story of gay men in San Francisco that was explored in HBO’s recently canceled series.

For almost a year, Graffiti with Punctuation editor Blake Howard and I have been discussing doing a series of essays about a topic of mutual interest - portrayals of masculinity on screen. The aim is to explore our favorite elements of the topic, to get quite personal and to come up with something hopefully compelling.

A decade after its release, comedy troupe Broken Lizard's beer-soaked feature comedy "Beerfest" is being revived as a digital series for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Being developed by CW Seed and shortform digital series production unit Blue Ribbon Content, Billy Gerber will produce the shorts. It isn't clear if any of the Broken Lizard guys are involved in the project.

No word on what the story will be. The original centered on two brothers (Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske) who travel to Germany for Oktoberfest, only to stumble upon a secret, centuries-old competition described as a 'Fight Club' with beer games.

The plan is to launch the series later in 2016 on its 10th anniversary.

Variety reports that Broken Lizard’s Indiegogo campaign not only surpassed its $2 million goal, it earned a whopping $4.4 million, usurping Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here as the second-most successful crowdsourced film campaign ever, behind Veronica Mars, which made $5.7 million. Desperation may be a stinky cologne, but crowdsourcing is totally legit. As an incentive for donations, the troupe released its first film, Tin Foil Monkey Agenda, exclusively to contributors. Today, the Broken Lizard gang announced their latest shenanigans: They're asking for $2 million in crowdfunded donations to make a follow-up to Super Troopers. The last time we heard about this potential sequel, Broken Lizard had finished a script for the film and handed it to Fox Searchlight, which reportedly "loved" it. Now we learn there were limits to their love: As Jay Chandrasekhar explained in a statement, "Since we refused to make a sequel in which the highway cops have morphed into superhero-vampires, Fox Searchlight proposed the following deal: They'll release the film, but we have to raise all of the money." Rewards for donating include one of the cop cars from the film, a marijuana vacation with the cast in Colorado, and the opportunity to drink against the guys in a real-life Beerfest. If you win that one, just remember: Spin the boot when the bubble comes.

TBS is adding another pilot to its mix. Following the cancellations of Men at Work and Sullivan & Son — as well as the final season of Cougar Town — the Turner-owned cable network has ordered comedy Quality Time to pilot. From Broken Lizard — the writers and producers behind cult films including Super Troopers and Beerfest — Quality Time centers on four college friends who kept their sophomoric ways in suspended animation throughout their 20s and are now succumbing to reproduction. Broken Lizard, the comedy team responsible for stoner classics like Super Troopers and Beerfest, is developing a TV project for TBS. According to Variety, Quality Time will follow the various members of the filmmaking group (assumedly fictionalized versions), focusing on their struggles with raising children and clinging to the responsibility-free lifestyle of their glory days.

With four series from the platform's most recent competition in production, Amazon has turned to round three. It has just added a dramedy called Really to its new pilot season. Tommy Chong has revealed that he and his longtime comedy partner Cheech Marin are teaming up with director Jay Chandrasekhar for another Cheech & Chong movie! Chandrasekhar is part of the Broken Lizard comedy team and has directed the films Super Troopers and Beerfest. While talking to celebstoner.com, Chong had this to say,

Back in the late 70s and early 80s, comedy duo Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong were pretty much the first and last word in stoner comedies. Now, more than thirty years since their last big screen appearance, the pair are planning to light up again in a new film courtesy of Super Troopers director Jay Chandrasekha, of the Broken Lizard’s comedy troupe.

Tommy Chong broke the news of a new Cheech and Chong film to the aptly named CelebStoner.com website (via /Film). According to Chong, Chandrasekha is hard at work on a script that will have him and partner Cheech Marin heading to a pot festival. Here’s what Chong said:
