The main character, Felice Falafafull was created through a collaboration between the writer, Tasciotti and the Nigerian-born actress, Folake Olowofoyeku.
Protesters was produced in 2003, during the midst of a hiatus on production of the legendary N.Y. indie scene of "The Instant Messenger Prophecy" project. Protesters came together spontaneously and was put into motion to keep some of the cast and the director Tasciotti active and inspired.
Much of the filming was done on the waterfront in Brooklyn and at a nearby warehouse, being leased by Scott Richmond, co-producer and founder of Satellite Records.
Unfortunately, crime took place on the production (possibly during the shoot with Jesse Kelly and Folake Olowofoyeku). One of the cameras and various equipment were stolen from the movie set. The prime suspect was an acquaintance of Ian Couch, director of photography. The suspect's seedy Brooklyn residence was probed, yet to this day, nothing has been resolved and the footage is still missing.
Protesters was first screened on January (2004) in New York City at the well-known Two Boots Cinema in the East Village. This original cut is widely available as of 2010 in a collector's edition for download.
