Better than you'd expect from a guy named "Poodles".

This is one of three Poodles Hanneford shorts that is included with the DVD "Weiss-O-Rama"--a collection of shorts from various comics of the mid to late 1920s who worked for the Weiss Brothers. In general, the print quality is exceptional while the comedies themselves were from lesser stars of the day and weren't as funny as the output of rival studio, Hal Roach.

As far as Poodles Hanneford goes, he's hardly a household name today. Heck, I am very, very well-versed on silent comedy and I'd never heard of him before I got this DVD. Well, despite being unknown today, the short was very watchable and clever. Not great, but very good.

Hanneford wants to elope with his girlfriend, but her father is determined to stop them. So it's up to Poodles to use his mind to out-think him and get the girl by the end of the film. While the gags were mostly mildly funny at best, the overall effort is likable and worth a look.
