Great making-of documentary

I love this kind of documentary. This is because it's always fun to watch the cast and crew talk about their experiences filming a particular movie and working with their co-stars as well as the crew of that particular movie. In addition, it's also fun to see what happened behind the scenes during the filming of a particular movie, such as takes or bloopers. Anytime I watch a DVD or special edition VHS, I always look forward to seeing the documentaries afterward, that is, if there are any on it. Before I wrap this up, I'd like to say that this was a great making-of documentary. In conclusion, I hope you enjoy this making-of documentary.

One of the best of its kind

The fun thing about this film is that it was one of the earliest experiences of behind the scenes documentaries to be made for DVD, far away from the polished and well-mannered comments and those annoying disclaimers warning that the studio isn't responsible or support any of the comments given in it. So, here you have traditional exposures made by "L.A. Confidential" director Curtis Hanson, cast and crew, but you also have the author of the novel in which the movie was based the great James Ellroy saying whatever comes to mind and without getting bleeped. Kind of shocking at first, but very fun after you get used to it.

Clear-cut like many of its genre, this documentary escapes from the fantastic and amazing behind the scene stories that sound and look phony sometimes and instead presents good and down to earth conversations on how the director assembled the team for his labor of work. Highpoint is a face to face recalling of events between Hanson and his screenwriter partner in this project Brian Helgeland. Fun moments appear when producer Arnon Milchan reveals his excitement for the movie claiming this was Regency's (his company) best film ever made, and the tape auditions from Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe at the time relatively unknown in Hollywood landing their first big breaks.

Never near of the spectacle of David Fincher movies when of its DVD's versions (since he carefully plans those materials before the movie hit the theaters!) but very enjoyable anyway. 10/10
