After 12 seasons of playing the good-hearted Penny on "The Big Bang Theory" (deemed the show's most likable character by /Film), Kaley Cuoco had a taste for something darker, wilder, but still, in its way, funny. She alighted on a sharply written novel by Chris Bohjalian called "The Flight Attendant," which, along with show developer Steve Yockey, she expanded into a two-season series about the alcohol-induced misadventures of Cassie Bowden. That's the thumbnail sketch, at least.
Boiling "The Flight Attendant" down to its hook does it something of a disservice. Yes, it starts as a murder mystery wherein a drunk Cassie struggles to piece together the events of the night that led to her ending up in bed with a dead man whose throat has been slashed, but once the FBI get involved it veers off in wholly unexpected directions. Then...

Fall Into Winter is the perfect seasonal romantic comedy, with an exceptional cast to drive the heartwarming story home. The Great American Family movie was originally released in 2023, but it has now arrived on Netflix just in time for the seasonal transition from fall to winter. Directed by T.W. Peacocke and written by Cara J. Russell, Fall Into Winter has claimed a spot in Netflix's US Top 10 Movies, placing stars Lori Laughlin and James Tupper in the streaming platform's holiday spotlight. Of course, these two aren't the only ones who make the romance of Fall Into Winter worth the watch.
Laughlin and Tupper's Fall Into Winter has a classic holiday romance premise. The film follows small-town girl Kerry Murphy (Laughlin), who loves nothing more than making spectacular candy to sell at her family's local shop. Tupper's Brooks is her old high-school rival who had been best friends with her brother...

Ghosts creators Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond are teaming up with Netflix to develop In Case of Emergency, a new animated series inspired by other adult-oriented series. The duo developed the hit BBC comedy that saw a couple inherit a run-down country home populated by various ghosts who have passed on the land that was later adapted by CBS. Alongside creating the show, Rickard and Willbond also starred in the series, with Rickard portraying Sir Humphrey Bone and Robin the Caveman, and Willbond playing The Captain.
With the UK version of Ghosts having wrapped in 2023, Deadline reports that Rickard and Willbond will work with Netflix on their next project. In Case of Emergency centers on a British hospital. It is inspired by adult animated comedies such as Family Guy.

“I said I’m f***ing done!” Julia Garner’s Ruth Langmore thunders to “b**** wolf” Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) in the third season of “Ozark” – but that might not be the case for the actress at the Emmys. After garnering the Best Drama Supporting Actress award for the Netflix series’ second season on her career-first attempt last year, she is now back in the running and fully prepared to defend her crown by means of her episode submission to Emmy judges, “In Case of Emergency,” the third season’s seventh outing.
After a calamitous second season for her, the third one sees Ruth primarily back on her feet as she co-manages the Missouri Belle’s casino operations alongside Marty (Jason Bateman). But matters swiftly take a dramatic turn in the episode that precedes Garner’s Emmy submission, in which Ruth watches as unknown parties in black SUVs gun down...

For her portrayal of Ruth Langmore on Netflix’s “Ozark,” Julia Garner won her first Emmy last year, in Best Drama Supporting Actress. With “Ozark’s” third season having dropped on March 27, she is now in the hunt for the statuette once again and would be just the seventh back-to-back winner in this category and the first since 2014.
The six thespians who achieved this feat before her are Ellen Corby for “The Waltons” (1975-76), Nancy Marchand for “Lou Grant” (1980-82), Bonnie Bartlett for “St. Elsewhere” (1986-87), Allison Janney for “The West Wing” (2000-01), Blythe Danner for “Huff” (2005-06) and Anna Gunn for “Breaking Bad” (2013-14). Garner would be the first to net back-to-back statuettes in this category under the new voting system, established in 2015 — but can she pull it off?

It's that time of year when we usually give you a list of films playing in cinemas during August, as the summer blockbuster season winds down, that will help cleanse your palate after all the tentpoles and sequels that have proliferated throughout the year so far. But to be honest, this summer has been so good to us, we're more refreshed than usual.
Even aside from originals like Edgar Wright's Baby Driver and Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, this year's blockbusters have been of an unusually high standard. Wonder Woman pulled the Dceu out of its critical nosedive, War For The Planet Of The Apes is a gorgeous and emotional conclusion to the reboot trilogy, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming proved that Marvel's ever expanding continuity is still going strong.

There are times in which it's fairly easy to predict ahead of time whether or not an episode of Saturday Night Live has the capacity to be either really good or really bad. But with Ronda Rousey, the predictive needle was all over the place. The potential equally existed for a surprising, breakout performance from the Mma star or a 90-minute trainwreck. There really was no way to know which one would unfold until the episode started.

Sony Pictures Animation must certainly be enjoying how people are taking in the Pac-Man-heavy marketing for this weeks' Pixels (and, to the film's mild credit, he is the best part of it), because the suits in charge have ponied up the near seven figures to have some other yellow-faced friends transition to the big screen. In a heated three-studio audition, Sony won the right to have their banner placed in front of an Emoji movie. With Warner Bros and Paramount reported to be the other two studios vying to get the expressive, social media/text message-based personalities their cinematic due, it's apparently a ripe opportunity to take this property (c) to the next level, as the Japan-hatched ideograms don't subside themselves to any pesky rights, making them essentially free-reign when it comes to marketing, promoting and all that jazz. Does it matter that they'll have to take the extra route...

Have in mind that your stamina is finite. When you need to clear a path...

And so "Parks and Recreation" has come to an end. We published many stories about the show over the last week, including an Amy Poehler interview, an essay on the show's greatness, and a whole lot more, and I have a review of the series finale coming up just as soon as you give me a pair of your gym socks... "Yes. I'm ready." -Leslie Knope A few years ago, Mike Schur and I had a very long discussion of finales — not only the many times he had written "Parks" episodes that could function as series finales if NBC canceled them, but of the many sitcom and drama finales he had admired over the years. He talked about how once upon a time, he was convinced that the show would end with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the park Leslie built on Lot 48. He talked, as he so often does,...

Equipment to get your heart going again, put fires out, sterilize an open wound—those are the emergency items you usually see in sealed-off cabinets hanging in public places, but as helpful as defibrillators and first aid kits are in everyday life, you'd want more effective weapons at hand if a slavering werewolf from The Howling aimed its snout at your thigh, or if Fred Dekker's zombies from Night of the Creeps came calling for you as their delectable date.
That's where the fine folks from In Case Of come in. Their unique, hand-crafted, sealed emergency cabinets offer protection against zombies, vampires, werewolves, and demons. Though the weapons within their cabinets aren't real, they have a beautiful and realistic look that compliments the well-researched mythologies behind each item. To celebrate the hallowed day of horror that is Friday the 13th (and to give our readers a possible Friday the 13th...

What if the zombies from George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead shambled through malls in real life? How would you react if your town’s population transformed into vampires reminiscent of those in Stephen King’s ’Salem’s Lot, or if werewolves prowled your backyard and demons possessed those you hold near and dear? The folks at In Case Of have the decorative answers to these four scary “what ifs?”: sealed emergency cabinets containing survival tools to use against zombies, vampires, werewolves, and demons.
Founded by two childhood friends with a passion for supernatural survival, In Case Of has five limited edition cabinets that are now available. Each cabinet comes with weapons and tools useful for protecting yourself from a certain type of monster. For example, the zombie cabinet includes a 12-gauge short barrel shotgun, the vampire case comes with two vampire stakes, while the werewolf cabinet...

Several days ago we brought you the news that "Supernatural" creator Eric Kripke and the master of all things mysterious, J.J. Abrams, were working together on a new pilot for NBC. Today a director has been found to kick off the spooky!
According to Deadline, Jon Favreau has been tapped to direct Eric Kripke/Jj Abrams’ high-concept NBC pilot "Revolution". The project, written by "Supernatural" creator Kripke, is being described as a high-octane action drama following a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.
Abrams, Kripke and Bryan Burk are executive producing. This marks the first drama pilot directing gig for Favreau, who has helmed a few comedy pilots in the past, including that for the ABC series "In Case Of Emergency" starring David Arquette. In addition to "Revolution", Favreau has "Tweaked", a comedy pilot at CBS.

ABC has announced that a new sitcom will debut next month. Notes from the Underbelly, a sitcom from director/producer Barry Sonnenfeld, will start on Wednesday, April 11th. In Case of Emergency will drop out to make room for Underbelly. Not a big surprise unfortunately.
In Case of Emergency centers around a group of old friends from high school. They're at that stage of their lives when they realize their lives haven't turned out as they expected. Through the events of one crazy evening, the group is reunited at a Los Angeles Hospital. The sitcom stars David Arquette, Jonathan Silverman, Greg Germann, Kelly Hu, Lori Loughlin and Jackson Bond.
Emergency debuted on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 on ABC. The series was paired with The Knights of Prosperity (recently pulled) and both were ratings challenged that night. Emergency actually lost viewers from Knights and attracted only a 3.9 rating (about 6.3 million people). Viewership hasn't gotten any better,...

'Idol' continues rampage Wednesday
NEW YORK -- Fox and American Idol continued their rampage through primetime Wednesday, logging another nightly win in all the major demographics.
The Idol effect seemed to boost Fox's sophomore drama Bones, which had its highest ratings in more than a year. Meanwhile, ABC's sitcoms continued to see only heartbreak and NBC did OK with Deal Or No Deal and Medium, which won a rare victory in adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. against a repeat CSI: NY.
But it was Idol that ruled the roost again with 31.4 million viewers and a 13.4 rating/31 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary data released Thursday by Nielsen Media Research. That crushed everything at 9 pm. with only Deal or No Deal ( 11.4 million, 3.1/7) able to pass the 10-million viewer mark. CBS offered a repeat Criminal Minds (9.7 million, 2.7/6) that beat ABC's According to Jim (5.7 million, 2.2/5) and In Case of Emergency ( 4.6 million, 1.8/4).
Bones (12.6 million, 4.2/11) won the 8 p.m. hour, giving the show its highest ratings in the demo since March 15, 2006, and its second highest viewership rating in its history.

'Knights' dodging 'Idol' threat
ABC is shuffling its Wednesday comedy lineup, shifting new series The Knights of Prosperity away from Fox's American Idol.
The network said Friday that Knights will move back a half-hour to 8:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday, displacing According to Jim to 9 p.m. George Lopez will continue at 8 p.m.
While that's good news for Knights -- which saw its audience plummet nearly 50% from its Jan. 3 premiere when it aired opposite Idol on Jan. 17 -- fellow freshman comedy In Case of Emergency isn't so lucky, remaining in its 9:30 p.m. slot.
The ABC hit drama Lost returns to the Wednesday lineup at 10 p.m. Feb. 7.

2-hour 'Idol' demolishes Wed. competition
How long can Fox hold that high note? American Idol demolished everything in sight again in primetime on Wednesday with a two-hour edition that peaked at 36.9 million viewers in the 9 p.m. hour.
Idol opened up the night for Fox at 8 p.m. with 27.7 million viewers and 11.1 rating/30 share in the adults 18-49 demographic. By 9 pm., viewership had climbed to 36.9 million and 15.5/37 in the demo.
Idol surpassed the combined ratings of ABC, CBS, NBC and CW Network in both the 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. hours. CBS' Armed and Famous (4.7 million, 1.4/4) couldn't get arrested at 8 p.m. NBC's Fright Night Lights (6 million, 1.9/5) and ABC's combo of George Lopez (6.1 million, 1.9/5) and According to Jim (6.2 million, 2.1/5) weren't much better off, though CW's Beauty and the Geek (3.1 million, 1.3/3) held up well, relatively speaking by CW standards.
At 9 p.m., NBC's Deal or No Deal (10.1 million, 2.7/6) was a distant No. 2. ABC's struggled against the Idol vortex with new comedies The Knights of Prosperity (3.6 million, 1.4/3) and In Case of Emergency (3 million, 1.2/3) while CBS punted with a Criminal Minds repeat (9.6 million, 2.3/5).

CBS 'Armed' for Wednesday win
NEW YORK -- CBS' celebrity-cop reality series Armed & Famous got off to a disarming start Wednesday even though it managed to win its time period in the demo against weak competition.
"Armed & Famous" just barely won the demo between 8-9 p.m. (and lost in viewers) while the second week wasn't kind to the new ABC sitcoms The Knights of Prosperity and In Case of Emergency. Primetime was interrupted on the East Coast and Midwest by President Bush's half-hour speech on Iraq, which caused some schedule changes.
"Armed & Famous" (8.2 million, 2.9 rating/8 share in adults 18-49) split with an hour of ABC's According to Jim (8.6 million, 2.7/7), according to preliminary estimates released Thursday by Nielsen Media research. The reality show just beat it in the demo while the blue-collar sitcom beat it in viewership. And the demo rating was down from the Jericho premiere (3.4/10) on Sept. 20 and slightly off the season average of 3.1/9 in the time period.
Meanwhile, Friday Night Lights (6.6 million, 2.4/7) had its highest ratings since a Monday telecast but was about even with a repeat of Fox's Bones (7.2 million, 2.4/6).
