    BATTLE OF THE WITCHES!

Should have been the season premier episode because Sam's side of the family is at their WACKIEST. This rocks. What all us kids were addicted to.

Much credit to writer John L. Greene, who created MY FAVORITE MARTIAN. There's lots of crossover material between both shows. The BIG question today -- Should Tabatha go to the Little Witches School??? Outrageous. Outrageous.

The family is assembled at Darrin and Sam's house, and the final tally looks fairly grim. Endora, Aunt Enchantra (Estelle Winwood) and Aunt Hagatha (Reta Shaw) insist Tabatha go to THEIR school. Period. The only hold out is Aunt Clara (Marion Lorne), taking Sam's side. Tabatha should go to a mortal school. Darrin would agree on this too, although he's always in shock. We love Dick York.

The witch aunts are insulted to say the least, Aunt Clara losing face in this debate. In the middle of the insanity is warlock Maurice, Sam's dad, played by British actor Maurice Evans. A scene stealer on steroids. He and Agnes Moorehead made an ideal offbeat couple. Textbook defintion.

HOW will it all end? Addictive stuff, and catch the classic dialogue. Fun to watch all these veteran actors. Winwood, Shaw and Lorne shine here, PLUS the fancy threads. The makeup and wardrobe folks had the time of their lives, borrowing a few ideas from the BEVERLY HILLBILLIES. Why the color episodes were slick.

Thank's much to Sol Saks, who created this incredible sitcom. Sol passed at age 100 in 2011. SEASON 3 EPISODE 3 remastered Columbia dvd box set, featuring a beautiful cover.

    • Goofs
In the final scene, when Maurice is holding Tabitha, he shushes Samantha, telling her that he had just gotten Tabitha to fall asleep. In the next view of the toddler and her grandfather, however, Tabitha's eyes are wide open before she quickly closes them again.

Maurice: Now then, take the spell off them!

      Aunt Enchantra: Unthinkable!

Aunt Hagatha: We'll do no such thing!

Endora: Out of the question! It's for our grandchild's own good.

Maurice: Why you muddling, bumbling bunch of creaking old crones, I ought to...
