The episode starts with Jan bringing a new friend home so they can work on a school project. That friend is played by Kym Karath -- the same little girl who played Gretl Von Trapp in "The Sound of Music" and the little princess who almost married Will Robinson on "Lost in Space," before her elders could try to conquer earth. Before they even get into the house Greg is doing a little bit of car maintenance, and it's kind of obvious she's smitten with the eldest Brady boy.
Jan introduces her friend to her other siblings (not Marcia, because she isn't there). Peter spots her from the stairs and it's love at first sight.
Peter tries to woo her, and everything keeps going wrong, in the typical slapstick way. Later on, he convinces Greg to help her get the girl he likes by pulling the old Cyrano de Bergerac trick. Greg waits behind the bushes to feed him Peter lines, but Kerry sees right through his trick right away and runs into Greg's arms. Peter's pissed and Greg is annoyed by the girl, and he wants to dump her, so he rallies Jan and Marcia to help get Kerry to return to Peter. Greg's way of turning her off to him is to convince the girl he's a chauvinistic sleazebag, and many of the other siblings are in on it. But suddenly, one of Greg's exes walks into the house begging him to take her back... or so our girlfriend of the week is supposed to believe. It turns out to be Marcia wearing a brunette wig and oversized tinted sunglasses playing a girl named Debbie. But it's her effort to pretend to be the other woman that's way over the top
There are times when overacting makes a movie or TV show well worth watching. 1)Practically every John Waters movie. 2)A certain supporting character in the 1981 educational film "Dear Diary: A Film About Female Puberty, and 3)Maureen McCormick playing Marcia Brady pretending to be "Debbie" in this episode. Although it's not necessarily in that order, and someday you'll learn why. And knowing what we know now about the relationship between Barry Williams and Maureen McCormick behind the scenes, this makes the scene even better. I can't recommend this enough.
