- Danny Holland, a paranoid stand-up comedian, is convinced that his wife of six years is trying to kill him. He hires Peter Gunn to investigate, but Gunn gets a completely opposite view of the marriage from the wife when he confronts her with her husband's fears.—mister-mike
- Truly chilling episode with a great performance by Shelley Berman. Berman portrays a comedian named Danny Holland who hires Gunn. In the opening sequence, Holland is being followed by a man who appears to be homeless. When the man won't leave him alone, Holland knocks him upside the head and runs off.
Holland believes his wife is trying to kill him, and he paints a picture of her as being mentally unstable. However, when Gunn questions Holland's wife, she insists that her husband is the one with the problem, and she worries about him. Gunn is perplexed: who should he believe?
Gunn consults a psychiartrist who concludes that one of the spouses is a pathological liar. He tells Gunn that the spouse who is not lying could be in grave danger.
Holland has a confrontation with his wife before he goes onstage at a nightclub. Gunn shows up to check on the guy later, and is knocked out by someone.
Holland goes on to do his show, and appears to be very morose. The audience is confused at first, but then Holland starts telling jokes.
Meanwhile, Gunn shows up with a bandage on his forehead. Lt. Jacoby tells him about a street person who had been killed a few days earlier by a similar blow. This was the same person whom Holland hit. Gunn and Jacoby search for Holland's wife. They find her body in an alley.
As Holland finishes his act, he looks out to see a couple of uninformed cops on one side of the room. Peter Gunn and Lt. Jacoby stand on the other side. Holland ends with a joke about, "no matter how evil you've been today, your breathing out carbon dixoide has helped a flower."
