The distributor which released the other seasons (2-10) has said that they did not buy the rights because it was the custom to only release the newest (previous) season on DVD. The distributor started releasing in 2002 which means season 2 (which aired in 2001) was the first season they released on DVD and VHS. The first season did however re-surface in 2016 in low quality airings on YouTube which in 2019 were replaced by high quality airings. A DVD copy could also be obtained through the original production company when asking for it.
This was done to make the face differ more from the black hair and to give Black Pete a more friendly appearance for children. The black color can be seen as scary for some children because it is a dark color, the character Black Pete was a 'boogeyman' in the original tradition created to teach naughty children to be good.
The version shown on the DVDs is the version provided to the distributor by the production company and/or original channel. The distributor cannot change this version.
Unfortunately it is not known if there have been formal announcements on this subject. The songs could however be obtained through the original production company when asking for it.
In television viewing ratings the fifth season (De Brieven van Jacob / 2004) was the most succesfull. In music cd sales the theme song "Paniek in de Conffetifabriek" (season 7 / 2006) was the most succesfull. For DVD and VHS (home video) sales there are no known numbers.
There are no known plans. The special "Tante Soesa & Sassefras: Een Jaar Vol Gedoe" and clips can however be viewed on the YouTube channel Tante Soesa & Sassefras TV.
In 2000 the Black Petes guest starred in 4 episodes of "Fox Kids Weekend", a regular Fox Kids program that was hosted by Tante Soesa. Also in 2000 Tante Soesa hosted the program "Het Feest van Sinterklaas" which also starred three characters from De Club van Sinterklaas.
It is not known if there will be new episodes with the popular character Tante Soesa.

There have been multiple mentionings of the name Black Pete in speech and written text throughout the series, but indeed not very many. The reason for this is probably because the Black Petes in this series are usually brown instead of black, though they are still Black Petes in the storyline.
