I'm Greek, I'm 50 years old and obviously I also served my duty when my country called me (drafted) in 1992. More or less... the tour was something like the film "portraits", not so... "chaos" as in the film, but a lot "loufa" (cool-down, relaxing).
The script is not so good as we expected, obviously not so AMAZING as the old same title film was/is, but still its very funny and shows you a lot realistic day-life or the modern Greek draft troops.
In Greece, we have regular PROFESSIONAL army as all countries do, but we also have law that ALL male Greeks must serve their country when they're finish their schools (colleges). So... these funny guys you see, "cooling-down", dressing like... clowns (and not wearing official/proper uniform), saying jokes, playing with girls and female tourists... these are DRAFT troops (like I was), not regular army men. (The regular troops are very professionals and don't doing such staff, as most pro soldiers supposed and do).
Generally is a good film, especially if you are Greek or understand the Greek language to enjoy the GREEK "SLANG" quotes (jokes).

I wasn't expecting much from this movie. I had heard a lot of positive comments from people who had seen it (some of them twice). Most of the recent Greek films that have come out were a total waste of my time. This one was different. It was funny in a continuous smile kind of way, but there were also moments were it totally cracked me up. The characters are diverse (with the gay soldier and the soldier from Crete producing some of the most hilarious moments). I also liked the fact that the movie tries in a very subtle way to convey certain messages (mainly that Greeks and Turks have more in common than they'd like to confess). I think people of Turkish descent will also find this movie enjoyable. All in all quite a good movie. It goes to show that you don't need special effects if you have good dialogues and scenario.
As a young Greek living in Canada I have to tell you this film is great. A lot of Greek films that I have seen are pretty good however they don't have the budget to make them very fancy with special effects and such, that's why for the most part they are not very successful. THis film however, has become a box office hit in Greece. You can tell by watching it that a lot of time and money has gone into making it. Out of all the Greek films shown in the theatres in Greece all these years and the thirty thousand or so tickets it sold proves it! It's a must see film for all greeks out there or for anyone who enjoys Greek films.

Hi!Thanks for the opportunity that you provide me!I am Greek and i was looking forward to expressing my thoughts about this movie.i have seen LOUFA & PARALLAGI twice, actually.I don't really know why...I do know that it made me laugh several times! The director-NIKOS PERAKIS- shot an amusing sequel even though the original movie was definitely better! The funny thing about LOUFA 2 is that it turned out to be a huge Success in the Greek box-office!It doesn't happen often! The movie includes many talented actors such as IOANNIS PAPAZISIS,VASILIS HARALABOPOULOS,ORFEAS AUGOUSTIDIS and many more! What else?oh yeah!Beautiful Turkish models, handsome soldiers!Yeah...Worth watching!!!BYE

I found this movie a great example of the Greek character and also the nature surrounding it. The story is simple yet funny and very entertaining. Of course the movie is by Greeks for Greeks but I think with subtitles it can gain fans outside of Greece, except probably for the US where one will not be able to understand how a bunch of soldiers are dealing with a simple border incident in one of the most disputed parts of Greece. What is different here is that instead of the soldiers getting drunk and shooting everything that moves, they are getting romantically involved with their captives and entertain them while they are awaiting orders from their superiors.
