This low-budget production settles the no smoking debate. Smoke wins. The movie's secret hero, mild-mannered Vadim, is an exiled Russian with no direction home. He has nothing left but the occasional cigarette to soothe his homesick heart. At his own wedding, a self-important bunch of suburban thirty-somethings makes the lost man plead for mercy: "May I smoke in the kitchen? Outside, they won't let me." What else do we need to see that the witch hunt has gone too far? - Some sources say the production cost EUR 2000, others say EUR 10.000. Either way, this is a true bargain. Don't miss it if you like David Mamet or Jim Jarmusch.
