Not rubbish! If you like silly HK comedies you'll dig it.

I registered just to say this is actually a decent, fun comedy.Definitely not "rubbish" as another reviewer has suggested.

I laughed a lot (especially at a certain costumed character). Don't be expecting Kung Fu Hustle level fights but do expect Cecelia Cheung to be as mesmerizing, beautiful and funny as always. I hope she continues to make movies.

Due to some of the bad reviews I had read I had put off seeing it for a few years but finally got to see it tonight and was not at all disappointed. I think all involved had fun making My Kung Fu Sweetheart. If you're in the mood for a light, silly comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously then I think you will enjoy it too.

            Good film for HK enthusiasts

Despite the disparaging comments on IMDb, after seeing an Ad for this movie (a.k.a. My Kung Fu Sweetheart) on an ALL Nippon flight, I watched it anyway. This movie is very amusing and fun. First off, so as not to cloud my entire review, I would like to mention that I think Cecilia Cheung is gorgeous.

The plot is easy to follow and really brings the idea of Kung fu into the present time nicely, instead of the normal, "wow you're from Hong Kong, you must be a kung fu master". Though the fight scenes and other technical elements were not as polished as some of the other movies I've seen, I'd still say this movie ranks closely with House of Fury for entertainment value.

All in all, if you can find a copy I would recommend it. I enjoyed it, and actually wished that it wasn't so short.

Fun movie, but nothing out of the ordinary here...

First, let it be said, don't sit down to watch this movie with the intention of seeing a serious martial arts movie! This is a Kung Fu comedy with a sugar-coated love story to accompany it.

The story is about Phoenix who find out that her parents are Kung Fu masters when she turns 14, and she joins them at the secluded mountain temple to study Kung Fu. Then many years later, when she is all grown up, Phoenix runs into Dragon at work where she is assigned to be his secretary. Dragon is the man she believes is destined for her, according to the words of an eccentric monks told her when she was younger. But Dragon was the sole survivor of an attack planned by White Eyebrows and his goons are now chasing after him to kill him. Together with her huge hawk and father, Phoenix must protect Dragon while falling in love.

The story is actually really, really simple and silly, and it is very easy to follow. But despite this, then the story was actually fun because it was this silly. Of course it was helped along by the quirky characters and the hilarious huge hawk.

Hand on heart, then this movie wasn't amongst Cecilia Cheung's better movies. I enjoy her movies, and bought it because of her (although I do like Hong Kong movies quite a lot). I think I would have enjoyed this movie more perhaps 10 years ago, I think I just moved on from these kind of silly-storied movies by now. But still, as I mentioned above, the movie is not bad.

The fighting scenes in the movie weren't too bad, considering this being a Kung Fu comedy. And, of course, in the Hong Kong tradition, there is a lot of floating around with wires, but hey, that is what is expected from most Hong Kong martial arts movies.

"My Kung Fu Sweetheart" is fun to watch if you are accustomed to Hong Kong cinema, especially with the movies that came from Hong Kong in the late 1990s and early 2000s. And there were some good laughs here and there throughout the movie - I, personally, enjoyed the scene in the Zoo with the crocodiles.

            Just rubbish

I knew it was gonna be a waste of time. Saw this movie with a friend simply because we got free tickets and he insisted we use it. I knew it was going to be bad and it lived up to that expectation all right. The story is extremely lame and full of plot holes as one might expect out of a typical HK movie. The Kung Fu scenes are just childish; who are they trying to please with this kind of material? Cecilia Cheung's performance is 'ok' (her role is not very demanding anyway) and she is just beautiful as usual. However, I have no idea how Leo Koo made it to the cinema. He doesn't know how to act and he is ugly. Makes me feel sorry for the movie industry every time I see they make a movie with somebody who is famous but has absolutely nothing to do with movies just in order to sell.
