The models were sold to Britt Allcroft in 1991, and were used (although heavily modified) in Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends as set dressing until 2009, when it became a CGI animated series. In 2013, eighteen of the original models were sold to the Star Tugs Company Ltd. (formerly The Star Tugs Trust) with the intention of having them restored for public display.
None of the voice actors were ever listed in the series credits. Patrick Allen narrated the series (as Captain Star), and other voice talent was performed by Chris Tulloch, Shaun Prendergast, Timothy Bateson, John Baddeley, Nigel Anthony, Mike Mulloy, Simon Nash and Lee Cornes.
No human characters were ever seen throughout the series.
The models were not remote controlled but had a trolley-like chassis and a piece of invisible string would steer them.
When released on video, the program had two alternate opening sequences.
