They may not be household names like their A-list colleagues, but the actors on this list have appeared in some of our all-time favourite geek movies...
Some actors dabble in sci-fi; others dip their toe into fantasy; some may even make an appearance in the odd horror film - all before returning to the safety of the genres in which they feel more comfortable - perhaps a nice, award-chasing period drama, or a well-paid romantic comedy.
A-listers may see the geeky films that we on this site enjoy and celebrate as fun little side-projects, but there are actors out there who commit full-time to these types of movies. It is high time, therefore, that we credited these individuals with the recognition they deserve.
Besides the stipulation that, in order to be included, an actor had to still be alive and working today, there were no strict criteria that had to...

It’s official. Gary Busey, recently seen as the cock-eyed Pepperoni Profit on Celebrity Apprentice, has joined the cast of Piranha 3Dd.
It’s safe to assume Busey won’t be representing the “Dd” portion of the film (we hope?) but the details of his character are yet unknown. The pic, helmed by The Weinstein Company, is set to bow November 23.
Though Tara Reid has denied her reported involvement with the film, the veteran actor still joins an edible young cast announced earlier this week. Attached to the project are Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th) and Matt Bush (Adventureland), as...

Ever since the sequel was announced, the producers of Piranha 3Dd have been promising that they’ll look to up the madness ante from last year’s original. Well, it appears they’ll well and truly succeed by introducing a crazed, mad-eyed brute from the Palaeolithic era into our water system. No, not some relic you’d find hanging in the Natural History Museum: Gary Busey!Yes, in a move that will delight all devoted followers of the Church of Busey (including our own Nick DeSemlyen), the man and his legend, last seen in quality cinematic production Succubus: Hell Bent, will be scaring the humans (and probably the fish) in the film, which just kicked off shooting. Rumours that Busey would step into a motion capture studio to provide the piranha performance as well are, sadly, untrue. But let’s start them anyway, eh?John Gulager is calling the shots this time around,...

Afterburner names Corrigan vice chairman
Michael Corrigan, a former CFO at MGM, has joined Afterburner Films as vice chairman.
Afterburner, which CEO David Riggs founded last year, has embarked on a four-picture slate, kicking off with the action thriller Fast Glass, the indie company's second film.
Glass, a tale of California surfers who get caught up in airborne drug smuggling, stars Andrew Keegan, Brandon Quinn, Nick Carter, Greg Grunberg and Natalia Cigliuti. Writer-director Kim Bass (Ballistic) is helming the project.
Other titles on Afterburner's slate, which it will be offering at this month's Cannes Film Market, are the horror thriller Scareport, the treasure-hunt movie 50 Large and the love story Through the Cracks.
Afterburner's first feature, Succubus: Hell-bent, written and directed by Bass and starring Lorenzo Lamas, David Keith, Gary Busey and Kelly Hu, was released domestically by Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
Before MGM, Corrigan was a senior partner in the Entertainment, Media and Communications practice at PriceWaterhouse.
"Mike's experience as a media and entertainment executive makes him the right person at the right time for our growing company," Riggs said.
