One thing I can say for Vertigo Comics is they never fail to surprise me with their diverse books. One month they'll do a sci-fi graphic novel about the dangers of technology and a few months later I receive another one so far in the outfield it leaves me wondering how writers come up with the material. That's how I felt while reading their latest offering, Get Jiro!
The book revolves around a sushi chef named Jiro. In the not too distant future, two crime lords rule L.A. with an iron fist. Instead of controlling the streets using drugs and weapons, these gangs rule with culinary skills. The world is so obsessed with food that people literally kill for a seat at the best restaurants in town. Jiro has certain skills both groups want to make their own. As they battle over the chef, he must find a way...

In Method Man's newest thriller he plays the eponymous Mortician who finds a young boy in his morgue. The boy is afraid to leave his dead mother and is hiding from the abusive father who put her there. We've got an exclusive clip from this thriller, directed by Gareth Maxwell Roberts (Kill Kill Faster Faster) along with the trailer. The Mortician hits DVD this Valentine's Day.

Star of the Travel Channel show "No Reservations," Anthony Bourdain broke out some hard-hitting writing when he released his memoir "Kitchen Confidential" — but he's decided to try his hand at creating a graphic novel as well. Bourdain let his project slip in an interview earlier this year, but it's official now, and it won't be about gyros.
He'll be aided by novelist Joel Rose of "Kill Kill Faster Faster" and artist Langdon Foss, whose work has appeared in "Heavy Metal." Together, they're synthesizing a "futuristic action thriller" called "Get Jiro!" which was just announced at New York Comic Con.
The genre choice may surprise Bourdain's followers, but it's said to be focusing on American obsessions with exotic cuisine in manic, violent and extreme ways. Such subject matter is well within the realm of topics Bourdain has addressed before in his career, though. The title character is a sushi chef who...

Oddly enough, Edward Furlong is in this flick, which is not director Gareth Roberts (Kill Kill Faster Faster) first. Why do I say that? Because I think he's got great talent and I'm wondering why they chose Meth, my least favorite of the Wu-Tang Clan, to headline. He looks like a friggin' pimp in that suit and the man can spit and get a crowd going, but since he started doing all those crappy films, I lost respect.
I can't see any real talent involved in this and I'm betting it's going to be a let down, but the idea sounds way too good to pass up. I'll still watch it. Ok, at least for 5 minutes to see if it's any good.
The Mortician processes corpses with a steely regard. He is alienated and cold. He feels threatened by his new employee, Noah, who brings the notorious gangster, Carver, to the mortuary door.

This is not the usual project we write about, but I just thought it sounded cool enough to mention. THR has announced the cast for The Mortician 3D, produced by Belladonna Productions, from the on-going Afm. Hip-hop star Method Man (last seen in The Wackness) will headline along with Angelic Zambrana (last seen in Precious). Tom Hardy (Bronson) and Edward Furlong (American History X) are also in talks to join as well. The "gritty, urban drama" was written and is being directed by Gareth Maxwell Roberts (Kill Kill Faster Faster). Shooting starts this month in Louisiana. It may sounds bland, but read on for story details. The Mortician 3D is a redemption tale where kindness triumphs over cruelty and falls within the genres of urban noir, contemporary fairytale and psychological thriller. The film is set in the nightmare ghetto of a decaying metropolis and is based around about one man's...

Shooting starts November 16th in Louisiana for Belladonna and Stealth Media's The Mortician, which will be helmed by Gareth Maxwell Roberts from his own screenplay. The redemption tale in which kindness triumphs over cruelty falls within the urban noir, contemporary fairy tale and psychological thriller genres. Method Man (The Wackness, How High, Garden State) and Angelic Zambrana (Fighting) both star with Tom Hardy (Bronson, RocknRolla, Mad Max 4) and Edward Furlong (Night of the Demons) in talks. From Belladonna (Rene Bastian, Linda Moran and Adam Folk), the producers who brought you hit indie films such as Transamerica, Funny Games, The Caller and The Good Guy, in association with Molinare, Film and Music Entertainment Ltd and Full Circle Films (Rhys Thomas, Gareth Maxwell Roberts) producers of the award-winning Kill Kill Faster Faster, comes The Mortician 3D a gritty, urban drama in the style of David Finchers Seven.
