Remember, remember! The fifth of November, the Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason why the Gunpowder treason should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions did the scheme contrive, to blow the King and Parliament all up alive.
In 1605, a Catholic Englishman named Guy Fawkes was arrested and executed for conspiring to blow up Parliament and assassinate King James. His demise was celebrated every November by the British, and 175 years later — after American patriots fell at Concord in the “shot heard ’round the world” and a new spirit of resurrection began to spread — the idea of...

Joining Hugh Jackman as the only other big name in his second solo X-Men spin-off The Wolverine is actress Jessica Biel, it emerged tonight.
The actress will play the villainous Viper (pictured right and below), a skilled fighter, marksman and poisons expert who has come up against Wolverine and other X-Men characters several times in the comics and at one point blackmailed him into marrying her.
In some stories, she was also in a relationship with armoured antagonist Silver Samurai, to be played in the film by Will Yun Lee (Die Another day, Elektra, Hawaii Five-0, Total Recall remake) who was among several recent casting announcements.
Last year, it was reported that Viper would be the Caucasian secretary for Japan's Minister of Justice in the 20th Century Fox film, which is based on an acclaimed miniseries set in the Far East.

The feature film presence at Comic-Con this year has certainly dwindled a bit with many studios opting out of the convention completely, but the news surrounding comic book properties hasn't slowed down at all. David Slade is no longer directing Daredevil and Jessica Biel is playing Viper in The Wolverine and now, hot on the heels of confirmation that Chronicle director Josh Trank would helm Fox's reboot of Fantastic Four, Heat Vision has word on who will write the script. Up and coming writer Jeremy Slater has been hired to write the new franchise beginning about a family of superheroes who don't always get along well. Slater already has a burgeoning career as his horror spec script Tape 4, which centers around the mythology of H.P. Lovecraft has been set up at Lionsgate, not to mention My Spy, a teenage spy comedy that just got picked up by Universal Pictures with...

While Fox is in a bit of a scramble to figure out what to do with "Daredevil" lest the rights revert back to Marvel, that hasn't stopped them from moving full speed ahead on the "Fantastic Four" reboot. Earlier this week, the studio confirmed that rumored "Chronicle" director Josh Trank has indeed taken the chair of "Fantastic Four," and with the weekend now approaching, they've tasked a writer to get the ball rolling a bit more. THR reports that rising writer Jeremy Slater has been hired to put a fresh coat of paint on a franchise that needs some sprucing up after its 2005 and 2007 entries, which already look severely dated. It's an interesting choice given that he's a newcomer, but he's earned some heat for his spec "Tape 4," based on the mythology of H.P. Lovecraft, set up at Lionsgate, as well as his "Weird Science" meets "Risky Business" script "My Spy,...

Fox is wasting no time on Fantastic Four. Less than two days after Josh Trank (Chronicle) signed to helm the (admittedly questionable) franchise reboot, THR has learned that writer Jeremy Slater — who some might know for his acerbic Twitter account — is on board to handle scripting duties. If his week was somewhat affected by Jake Kasdan taking control of My Spy, this should help balance things out just fine.
If something feels slightly left-of-center about this choice in writer and director, THR thinks there might be a reason: Fox is trying to atone for the last time out and, in turn, “capture the geeks’ hearts this time around.” That intent is all well and good — plus, something I can only hope shapes up as planned — though we won’t see Fantastic Four until 2014 at the earliest. For the time being, I’ll have to remain the tiniest bit skeptical.

Only days after announcing that Chronicle director Josh Trank will officially helm the anticipated Fantastic Four reboot, word has gotten out that Fox is near closing a deal with an up-and-coming scribe to pen the screenplay. Further indicating that the studio is serious about the highly necessary reboot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Jeremy Slater has been hired to write the screenplay. Although considered "up-and-coming," Slater has penned screenplays for a "teen spy comedy" titled My Spy in addition to Tape 4, a horror piece. Beyond a swarm of rumors from years ago, some of which claim The Thing will be fully CG, nothing solid is known about the reboot. What we do know is that the film will follow The Wolverine and X-Men: First Class sequels on Fox's Marvel slate. And there is also a specified release date set, although unknown. What we can assume, now with a director...

After announcing a few days ago that Chronicle helmer Josh Trank will be taking on Fantastic Four , Fox now has a writer on the project. According to THR , Jeremy Slater has been brought in to write the script for the family superhero movie. The only unfortunate news about the film is that it will not start production until after The Wolverine and the X-Men: First Class Sequel , meaning it won't start until spring or summer 2013. Slater is a pretty busy guy as he also has a Lovecraftian horror movie in development at Lionsgate and the teen spy comedy My Spy at Universal. Let's hope he does justice to the Ff.

Studios have clearly been trawling the bargain bins of turnaround recently. Following on from word that Universal is considering picking up Jake Kasdan’s My Spy comes news that 20th Century Fox is putting John Hamburg’s comedy Brother From Another Mother in its shopping bag.The script had been lingering around DreamWorks, where nothing much happened with it. But the studio still has an option to co-finance the final project if Fox decides to go ahead and make it.As for the story, the plot finds two estranged brothers with conveniently opposing personality types (one is older, brilliant but aimless; the other a sheltered and precocious teen) who must confront their issues while stuck together on a road trip.If Fox does indeed give the go-ahead, Hamburg, who launched the Meet The Parents franchise and wrote / directed Along Came Polly and I Love You, Man, will be calling the shots.

Though he’s already got at least two current projects crawling on their hands and knees through the nightmarish development desert, writer-director Jake Kasdan has an older idea might just jump to the head of the queue. Action comedy My Spy appears to have escaped the dreaded limbo of turnaround.Variety reports that Universal is in negotiations to acquire the script, which was originally developed, then dumped, by CBS Films when it couldn’t find the right director. The plot is being kept in a special folder marked “classified” for now, though the trade mag’s agents were able to sniff out that it’s apparently along the lines of Risky Business and Weird Science, which makes us think it’s about a youngster / teenager who somehow gets control of a secret agent. Or becomes a secret agent. Or… we’ll have to wait and see. While Jeremy Slater and...

“Bad Teacher” director Jake Kasdan is obviously doing something right because he’s a man who’s seemingly in high demand at the moment. He’s currently attached to direct the Shawn Levy-produced adaptation of “Man Made,” “Sex Tape” with Jason Segel, a Warner Bros action-comedy called “Family Getaway,” and an untitled project with his "Bad Teacher" writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg. That’s what happens, we suppose, when your R-rated comedy rakes in over $200 million. Universal now wants to hand Kasdan another project. He’s in negotiations to direct (and rewrite) the comedy script “My Spy” which is being produced by David Ready, Mark Vahradian and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, with the studio picking up in turnaround from CBS Films. There’s no details on what the film may be about, other than the suggestion that it’s in the vein of “Risky Business” and...

While Jake Kasdan had moderate success with last year’s Bad Teacher — a couple of folks even said it was funny, too — he’s bounced around quite a bit in the time since. In this mere, not-so-long span, there have been offers for Sex Tape, Family Getaway, an untitled comedy, and the Shawn Levy-produced Man Made. That’s plenty (actually, too much) for anybody, but even David O. Russell can give us some hint as to what’s coming next.
Add one to the pile, since Variety reports that Kasdan and Universal are planning to join forces on an espionage comedy, My Spy, a piece said to be in the vein of ’80s classics such as Weird Science and Risky Business. Michael Diliberti (30 Minutes or Less) and Jeremy Slater wrote the original script for CBS Films, but, with Universal’s pending acquisition, Kasdan and his brother, Jon, will give the thing another polish.

The action comedy My Spy sprung back to life today with Variety reporting on Universal Pictures acquiring the movie from CBS Films and hiring Jake Kasdan to direct. Based on the script by Jeremy Slater and Michael Diliberti, described by Variety as a cross between Risky Business and Weird Science, CBS Films placed the film on hold when it was unable to find the right director. In addition to Jake Kasdan joining with Universal Pictures to direct My Spy, Kasdan also signed on to adapt the original script with his brother Jon Kasdan.

Stars: Luke WIlson, Giovanni Ribisi, Gabriel Macht, James Caan, Kevin Pollak | Written by George Gallo, Andy Weiss | Directed by George Gallo
Essentially Boogie Nights for the internet generation, Middle Men is based on the true story of Christopher Mallick, who here serves as a producer on the film. Taking a very Scorsese-esque slant, the film follows Jack Harris, played by Luke Wilson, who has made a name for himself in more comedic roles in recent years, but here he returns to the more dramatic role and is all the better for it – Wilson should really take more serious roles like this in future. Harris is a family man with a successful career and an idyllic life, who through a series of friend-of-a-friend favours manages to get involved with two would-be geniuses, Buck Dolby (what a name!) and Wayne Beering, played by Macht and Ribisi respectively, who, in a moment of financial frustration,...

In the movie, based on the Thierry Jonquet novel Tarantula, Banderas will play a plastic surgeon who takes revenge on the man who raped his daughter. Pure joy (tripled). I'm especially pleased that between them they have three Oscars!

For the record... If we'd been doing this in the 1980s, Melanie Griffith would have occupied the same treasured room in the Film Experience mansion currently occupied by Hilary Swank in the Aughts (she won't move out!). I completely understand what Antonio Banderas has always seen in her, don't you?! The cinema was a better place when he dumped that hack Pedro Almodóvar for Melanie's possessive embraces and the opportunity to make Hollywood classics like Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever, Never Talk to Strangers, Original Sin, My Mom's New Boyfriend, Play it to the Bone, Two Much (was ever a film more aptly titled?) and The 13th Warrior.

Blair is CBS' Kim
After a lengthy search, NBC has zeroed in on Selma Blair to star opposite Molly Shannon in its comedy pilot Kath and Kim.
Blair is in negotiations to play Kim in the Reveille/Universal Media Studios project, which was put on the fast track in June when Reveille's Ben Silverman and Teri Weinberg joined NBC as co-chairman and executive vp, respectively.
Based on the hit Australian series "Kath & Kim," the NBC comedy focuses on the dysfunctional relationship between Kath (Shannon) and her daughter Kim (Blair).
Casting the title characters has been considered crucial to the success of the show. When the project was first picked up to pilot by NBC in January 2007, it was pushed to summer because of difficulties casting the leads.
Michelle Nader, who penned the most recent pilot script, is exec producing Kath with original series creators Gina Riley and Jane Turner as well as Rick McKenna.
Following her breakthrough roles on the WB Network comedy series Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane and in the feature Cruel Intentions, CAA-repped Blair went on to co-star in such movies as The Sweetest Thing and Legally Blonde.
She next reprises her role as Liz Sherman in Hellboy II: The Golden Army and will appear opposite Antonio Banderas in My Mom's New Boyfriend.

Bear Aderhold & Tom Sullivan have been hired to pen "Fear Less". The comedy writers behind the sequel to Eddie Griffin's "Undercover Brother" and the upcoming Lionsgate film "Delta Farce" will pen a script centered on a fearful man who after a freak accident can no longer experience fear. Aderhold & Sullivan most recently worked on the pilot "Homeland Security" for WBTV and NBC. Aderhold & Sullivan are repped by Ryan Saul at Metropolitan, as well as Chris Ridenhour & Brad Kaplan at Evolution.
Erik Lindsay has signed to write "Little Bastards", a buddy comedy about a couple of devious twentysomething cousins whose outlaw lifestyle comes to a grinding halt when their dying grandmother curses them with "goodness." Lindsay is repped by Benderspink, UTA and Eclipse Law.
Wind Dancer films was created by Matt Williams, David McFadzean and Carmen Finestra.
