During the credits, there are interviews with the real airmen and soldiers who knew Pitsenbarger.
The 105-mm artillery support that provided the danger-close fire mission mentioned in this film on Operation Abilene was not from the US Army but from the 161st Battery Royal New Zealand Artillery. This same unit is also featured in Danger Close (2019) 201, which features a battle that took place four months later in the same province in 1966, against the same 274th and 275th North Vietnamese Army Regiments as in this film.
"The Last Full Measure" is a quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln during the US Civil War. There is also a novel by Jeff Shaara called "The Last Full Measure," the last part of a trilogy of historical/biographical series about the Civil War. The full phrase being "the last full measure of devotion." That's what President Lincoln called the ultimate sacrifice as he dedicated the cemetery at Gettysburg in 1863 (Gettysburg Address). It's what Memorial Day is all about: remembering those who laid down their lives to defend their families, their friends, their country.
