The film went through several names whilst in production, including "El Barbaro del Ritmo" ("The Wildman of Rhythm") and "Divina Desmesura" (~ "Divine Excess"). Other ideas included "Oh Vida!" ("Oh Life!") and "Los dioses mueren jóvenes" ("Gods Die Young").
When the Orishas recorded their version of the song "Soy Guajiro" it was intended for inclusion only in the CD of the soundtrack - as a bonus - not within the film. However, once he heard it, the director decided to include it over the closing titles.
