The clown Bock, main attraction of the Circus Metropol, is found murdered after the evening's show. Bock had recently started publishing his life story in a daily newspaper, heaping scorn on his colleagues and sometimes even exposing career-threatening secrets from their past, so that many wanted to see him gone.
