The first attempt at a British Chinese comedy sketch show on British television, the majority of the cast were veterans of Mu-Lan' theatre company's "Frying Circus", a collective of aspiring East Asian comedy writers and performers which was established in 1998, and who did their first performance in Canary Wharf's Cabot Hall as part of an East Asian festival of Arts in 1999. The Radio Times magazine declared that this show was the winner of the nationwide "BBC Talent" search that had taken part to great fanfare the previous year. The cast and writers only discovered this when they read it in the magazine.
